Jake Gyllenhaal was sold on making an appearance in John Mulaney’s Netflix comedy special from the minute he read the script, and the comedian’s openness to giving him free rein on the wacky character sealed the deal.

Mulaney told the story of how he cast the “Donnie Darko” star in the role of the kooky, xylophone-suit-wearing Mr. Music in “John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch” during an appearance on “The Tonight Show ” Thursday.

“Someone sent him the script of this character called Mr. Music, and Mr. Music is trying to teach the kids that you can make music anywhere, but everything he tries, he can’t make a sound,” Mulaney told host Jimmy Fallon, who was uncontrollably giggly, as usual.

The standing ovation seemed to come as a shock. At last month’s Sundance Film Festival, Wade Robson and James Safechuck were teary-eyed as they faced the applause, following the premiere screening of Leaving Neverland, an excruciatingly immersive documentary that accuses the late Michael Jackson of sexually molesting them as young boys.

Michael Jackson Estate Scrambles to Control Fallout From Bombshell Documentary
Michael Jackson
In the decade since Michael Jackson’s death, the late singer’s estate has turned what had been a financial disaster into one of entertainment’s most lucrative properties. But now, the upcoming documentary “Leaving Neverland” threatens to upend all of that — and the estate is in full-blown damage control mode.

Directed by Dan Reed, “Leaving Neverland” was a sensation at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it was met with a standing ovation. HBO, which produced the doc with Channel 4, will air the two-part, four-hour film on Sunday, March 3, and Monday, March 4.

The doc centers on two accusers, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, now in their 30s, who recount in graphic detail how they were sexually abused by Jackson starting at very young ages. “The sexual activities are described with unnerving candor, and one’s inevitable response is to recoil in horror at Michael Jackson’s predatory sickness,...

Three of Michael Jackson’s brothers and his nephew defended the late singer against charges of child sexual abuse made in Leaving Neverland, Dan Reed’s shattering documentary airing this weekend on HBO.

Appearing today on CBS This Morning as part of the morning show’s three-day look at the documentary, the Jacksons insisted that the film is untruthful and the two men making the explosive accusations are lying in an attempt to get money from the Jackson estate. (Watch the segment above).

None of the four Jacksons – brothers Tito, Marlon and Jackie, and nephew Taj – have seen the documentary. “I know my brother,” Jackie Jackson said. “He’s my little brother. I know my brother. He’s not like that.”

While speaking to TMZ.com, the 59-year-old bass guitarist said that people need to know that the late pop star had started with the music group, which gave him a launch pad.

People always blame the family as they think the family is after money, but we work and have made money, he added.

Formed in 1964, the Jackson 5 consisted of King of Pop, Michael Jackson along with brothers Marlon Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jackie Jackson and Jermaine Jackson. (Ani)...

Celebrities Honor Michael Jackson In Wake Of Daughter's Hospitalization
Michael Jackson
Las Vegas — One was not enough.

Less than 20 months after the debut of the first Cirque du Soliel show paying tribute Michael Jackson, comes the second: "Michael Jackson One"

Cirque president Daniel Lamarre said he'd planned two Jackson-inspired shows "from the first day we got the rights from the (Jackson) estate," with the first production, "Immortal," delivering a stadium-sized touring concert and "One" a more intimate affair – something closer to what Cirque du Soliel usually serves up. It's a multimedia extravaganza that often flies high, but never loses sight of its inspiration.

Saturday's world premiere attracted celebrities including musician Justin Bieber, as well as actors Neil Patrick Harris, Allison Janney and Alfre Woodard. Also in attendance were Michael Jackson's brothers Marlon, Tito and Jackie, the latter noting that most of the Jackson family would be inside the theater for the premiere except for Michael's daughter Paris, who, on June...

In the theme park battle, will Napoleon steal a march on Mickey Mouse? | Marina Hyde
As Disneyland Paris suffers strikes and euro losses, roll up for Napoleonland. Just don't set off from Waterloo

As a man whose very name has come to define the process whereby reality can be sanitised, Walt Disney must be spinning in his cryogenic chamber at the continued failure to Disnefy France. (Although, contrary to the urban myth, he's not actually frozen and stored beneath the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. But the one about the kid who goes missing in the park, only to wake woozily hours later behind Space Mountain and short of one kidney? That definitely happened.)

Disneyland Paris has just marked its 20th year in business, and the anniversary has coincided with reports of €1.9bn of debt and photographs of striking workers silhouetted against the park's enchanted castle. Of course, Disney is famously laissez faire – in February, the firm so often nicknamed Mouschwitz by disgruntled employees relaxed its dress code,...

Madonna Wants to Play Kissy Face with Britney; Ryan Gosling Comes to the Rescue; Drew Barrymore Pregnancy Rumors Swirl
ReelzChannel Celebrity Rundown

Madonna may be single, but she knows who she wants to celebrate the success of her new album with. The singer flirted with Britney Spears on Twitter Wednesday, inviting the young mom to "please come on stage and kiss me again. I miss you!!" It's hard to believe that it's been almost nine years since the two famously locked lips at the 2003 VMAs.

Rumors are floating about a Drew Barrymore baby bump after she was spotted out and about in L.A. on Tuesday carrying a little more weight than usual. Back in February, TMZ posted a picture of the actress leaving the doctor's office with a sonogram in hand, so it could be the rumor is true. Barrymore is currently engaged to art consultant Will Kopelman.

Photo Gallery: The Michael Jackson Tribute Concert
Prince, Michael Jr. and Paris Jackson

The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff Wales played host on Saturday to an all-star musical tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Some fans were upset that this was a "for profit" venture put on by members of the Jackson family (only an "undisclosed portion of the proceeds" will go to charity). Even Janet, Marlon and Randy Jackson decided to sit the event out, and arguably the biggest act in the line-up, the Black Eyed Peas was a late cancellation.

But in addition to Latoya performing songs off of Michael's Dangerous album (oh joy!), some more established stars did perform for the crowd of roughly 50,000. Among them were Christina Aquilera, Jamie Foxx, Cee Lo Green and Ne-Yo.

Below you'll find photos of the event, some backstage portraits and several photos of Prince, 14; Paris, 13; and Michael Jr., (a.k.a "Blanket") 9.

Michael Jackson's Children Appear At Tribute Show
Michael Jackson
Cardiff, Wales — Chart-toppers, soul singers and three generations of Michael Jackson's family – including his children – celebrated the King of Pop at an energetic tribute concert Saturday, urging fans to focus on the late star's music rather than his death.

The run-up to the "Michael Forever" concert was overshadowed by the Los Angeles manslaughter trial of Jackson's doctor, and marred by fan criticism, sluggish ticket sales and dissension within the Jackson family. But once the four-hour show started, Jackson's musical genius, and the warm tributes of friends and family, carried the night.

"We're very happy to be here on this special night to honor our father," said Jackson's 13-year-old daughter Paris, who made a brief onstage appearance alongside brothers Prince, 14, and 9-year-old Michael Joseph Jr., known as Blanket.

The children wore outfits evoking their father's famous styles – Paris most strikingly, in a red and black "Thriller"-style jacket. Blanket stood stoic and shy,...
