In A World where superheroes rule, Sylvester Stallone is hoping to resurrect the action man.
He's called upon old friends Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger and together they play a gang of muscular mercenaries known as The Expendables.
Bristling with such brawny brutes amid an assault of bullets and explosions, the film has already topped the Us box office and this weekend blasts into UK cinemas.
While any child of the 70s and 80s will be only too familiar with these names, the younger generation seems to have fallen out of love with action heroes.
"Every generation has to find their own hero, whether it's John Wayne or James Dean, and this generation has defined the superhero as theirs," says Stallone.
The Expendables started life as a more intellectual story, before Stallone - who wrote, directed and stars as crew leader Barney Ross - reworked more than 100 drafts of the script.
