Biography

    • Accomplished actor Peter Jacobson is perhaps best known for his series regular role as Hugh Laurie's punching bag 'Dr. Taub' on the award-winning hit TV series HOUSE, within an illustrious career that spans three decades of high-profile television series and films. Peter's most current project is the Paramount Pictures feature film SMILE 2, alongside Naomi Scott and Drew Barrymore, as 'Morris,' an ER nurse with a mysterious past. His character is deeply impacted by the unfolding terror as he tries to help 'Skye Riley' (Scott) escape it. Before SMILE 2, he was on the big screen in Columbia Pictures' FLY ME TO THE MOON alongside Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson.

Known for bringing a comedic edge to dramatic roles, Peter played the devious but neurotic warlord Proxy Snyder in USA Network's sci-fi thriller COLONY (created by HOUSE OF THE DRAGON's Ryan Condal), the ridiculously combustible attorney Lee Drexler in RAY DONOVAN, and Myn Weaver, the slippery supervisor of a galactic shipyard in the STAR WARS series AHSOKA. Other recent TV work includes HBO's GIRLS ON THE BUS, AppleTV's WeCRASHED (opposite Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto), ten episodes on FEAR THE WALKING DEAD, ten episodes on NCIS:LOS ANGELES, NEW AMSTERDAM, BILLIONS, BULL, and THE GOOD DOCTOR.

Jacobson has worked on some of TV's great and game-changing series, from NYPD BLUE, ER and WILL and GRACE to The GOOD WIFE, IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA and THE AMERICANS. And he appeared over many years on both LAW & ORDER and LAW & ORDER:SVU as the clownish but cunning lawyer Randy Dworkin.

Peter has starred in four HBO films - Billy Crystal's 61*, PATERNO, PATH TO WAR and STRIP SEARCH - directed respectively by the greats Barry Levinson, John Frankenheimer and Sidney Lumet. Other notable film work includes the villainous Gremlin in Pixar's CARS 2, WHITE HOUSE DOWN, WHAT JUST HAPPENED (alongside Robert DeNiro, Barry Levinson dir.), GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK (George Clooney dir./SAG Award nomination), A CIVIL ACTION (alongside Robert Duvall), John Turturro's cousin in CRADLE WILL ROCK, DOMINO (Tony Scott dir.), the original TRANSFORMERS, GREAT EXPECTATIONS (Alfonso Cuaron dir.) and AS GOOD AS IT GETS (alongside Jack Nicholson, James Brooks dir.). In 2021 Peter won two Best Actor awards for the short film THE HOUR AFTER WESTERLY. His next production is the indie film WELCOME TO THE FISHBOWL with Natalie Gold.

After graduating from Juilliard in New York, Jacobson spent years in the theatre. Most recently he starred in filmmaker Ethan Coen's A PLAY IS A POEM at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. Off Broadway credits include THE TAMING OF THE SHREW and THE COMEDY OF ERRORS (Public Theatre's Shakespeare in the Park), WAITING FOR LEFTY (Joanne Woodward dir.) and the original New York productions of Steve Martin's PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE, FOUR DOGS AND A BONE (John Shanley dir.) and THE COMPLEAT WRKS OF WLLM SHKSPR (abridged).

Peter went to Brown University, and he grew up in Chicago.
