Abdellatif Kechiche Absent at Locarno Premiere of Latest Film in His Controversial ‘Mektoub, My Love’ Trilogy and Heated Q&a: ‘How Do You Feel Promoting Such a Person?’
Image
Abdellatif Kechiche hasn’t made it to Locarno despite the premiere of “Mektoub, My Love: Canto Due,” the third installment of his controversial trilogy, reportedly due to health reasons and a recent stroke.

Kechiche, who won the Cannes Festival’s Palme d’Or for “Blue Is the Warmest Color,” has been panned by the critics for his latest films, especially “Mektoub, My Love: Intermezzo,” and plagued by allegations. They haven’t led to convictions.

During a Q&a open to the public, actors Shain Boumedine, Andre Jacobs, Salim Kechiouche, Ophélie Bau, Jessica Pennington and producer Riccardo Marchegiani discussed the film – as well as the accusation brought up by an audience member, who asked whether the actresses “have experienced anything on set” while making the film.

“We all know [about] the sexual abuse allegations. How do you feel now, promoting his art and his film? How do you feel promoting this person...

The Unnecessary Sequel To Denzel Washington's Hit Crime Thriller Becomes A Streaming Success Six Years Later
Image
Hollywood has been betting on sequels for decades as they are almost always guaranteed hits, especially after the huge success of a first installment. However, the recipe doesn't always work.

In 2006, two-time Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington starred in Spike Lee's successful, star-studded movie Inside Man. It was a critical and commercial hit, and over a decade later, Inside Out: Most Wanted was released. Although the sequel didn't make a splash, it achieved success on Netflix, debuting in second place in the global streaming charts, per Tudum.

Although this is not Inside Man: Most Wanted's first stint on Netflix, the movie was back in the charts for the week between May 5 and 11. It amassed 12.3 million views and 21.8 million hours viewed, debuting in second place just behind Vince Vaughn's new feel-good comedy Nonnas. The heist film entered the Top 10 in 69 countries, and became the number one film in 21 territories across the globe.

Image
Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, has acquired worldwide rights (excluding Africa and Japan) to “Indemnity,” an action-thriller written and directed by South African filmmaker Travis Taute that had its world premiere at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival. Magnet is targeting an early 2022 release.

“Indemnity” follows Theo Abrams, an ex-Cape Town fireman whose world is rocked when he wakes up next to his wife’s dead body with no recollection of what transpired and all evidence pointing to him as the killer.

Fantasia Review: Indemnity is a Breakneck, Bourne-Esque South African Thriller
Theo Abrams (Jarrid Geduld) jumps into action with CPR upon waking to find his wife’s (Nicole Fortuin’s Angela) dead body by his side. He then immediately clams up when a knock at the front door is accompanied by the declaration “Police!” He doesn’t remember hearing anyone enter their room that night nor recalls a violent struggle. Add the fact that he just lost his job due to an inability to overcome the Ptsd he’s been battling since blaming himself for the deaths of two firefighters under his command and he’s forced to wonder if he’s responsible for Angela too. Theo’s temper and anxiety have been in overdrive and his wife felt the brunt of both. If he can’t trust his own innocence, who can?

This is the question we ask ourselves despite having already processed the fifteen or so minutes of exposition...

Trailer for South African Movie 'Blood & Glory' Directed by Sean Else
"What if we defeat you?" Cleopatra Entertainment has released an official Us trailer for the South African period epic Blood & Glory, which opened in South Africa in 2016, but is just now getting a Us release direct-to-vod this March. Based on true historical events from South Africa's history, the story is about a man who is taken prisoner during the Second Anglo-Boer War and is sent to the St. Helena concentration camp, where he tries to defeat a Colonal at the game of rugby. Stian Bam stars, along with Charlotte Salt, Josh Myers, Andre Jacobs, Greg Kriek, Nick Cornwall, and Grant Swanby. This actually looks like a film about rugby, or so it seems, with prisoners learning to play in order to battle against the warden. This just seems like an odd story to tell, but I don't know the history in South Africa well enough. Watch below. Here's the official...
