Udayananu Tharam Box Office: Mohanlal’s Satirical Gem Returns(Photo Credit –YouTube)

Recently, Mohanlal has enjoyed enormous success at the box office in the Kerala domestic market, not only with his new films but also with re-releases. Janaki Vs. State Of Kerala Blocked By Cbfc? Here’s Why The Title Alone Sparked A Release Delay!
Image
Suresh Gopi’s Janaki vs. State of Kerala Faces Delay Over Title Dispute ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

The release date of the Mollywood film Janaki v/s State of Kerala (Jsk) has been postponed. A new release date has not yet been announced. The film was originally scheduled to release on June 27, 2025. According to Times of India, the postponement was confirmed by director Pravin Narayanan. The reason behind the postponement is reportedly the Central Board of Film Certification (Cbfc).

Did Janaki vs. State of Kerala Receive Cbfc Certification?

It was earlier reported that the Cbfc had granted the film a UA 13+ certification, which means the only restriction is that children under the age of 13 require parental guidance. So, the content of the film was apparently considered suitable for release.

According to Onmanorama, the film passed Cbfc certification without a single cut and was even praised, at least according to that report.

After a long wait, Kuberaa finally released in theaters. It stars a magnificent cast comprising Dhanush, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh. The movie is a bilingual social thriller in Tamil and Telugu. What has hit glitter in the limelight, however, are the weird roles played by the lead artists. Let’s quickly dissect who is playing whom in this gripping thriller.

1. Dhanush As Deva – A Beggar Pulled Into a Larger Scheme

Deva is one of the few good-hearted street beggars portrayed by Dhanush. He lives on the street, and presumably, there is nothing to his name, yet he appears satisfied with his life. But, unknowingly, something darker falls onto his unassuming head when he becomes a conduit in a keenly observed money laundering operation.

Lal Slams Jagathy Sreekumar’s Iconic Improvisation Style—Here’s Why It Didn’t Impress Him
Image
Comedy Icon Jagathy Faces Criticism from Lal(Photo Credit –Instagram)

We all know veteran actor Jagathy Sreekumar, known for his improvisation skills, often performed without informing his co-actors or even the director. He has received a lot of praise for this from various colleagues. However, one person has now opposed this notion, believing that this trait is not praiseworthy.

Who Holds A Different View?

Actor, scriptwriter, producer, and director Lal expressed the opinion that spontaneously changing dialogues or actions during a shoot, without informing others, should not be encouraged. According to him, such unpredictability can negatively affect the performance of co-actors who are expecting something else. While a section of social media has turned against Lal for this statement, watching the full interview makes it clear that he wasn’t trying to attack the comedy icon personally. The topic of Jagathy came up only in the context of a broader...

Chotta Mumbai Re-Release Announcement ( Photo Credit – Sun Nxt )

Chotta Mumbai is an iconic cult classic that continues to hold cultural relevance nearly two decades after its original release. Its memorable scenes still feature prominently in internet trolls and pop culture references. A major box office hit in its time, the film is now making a grand return to the silver screen, aiming to recapture the magic and success of its heyday.

Plot Of Chotta Mumbai

Chotta Mumbai follows the misadventures of a group of carefree, jobless men, though calling all of them “youngsters” might be generous. Leading the gang is Vasco Da Gama, fondly known as Thala, who ends up getting duped out of a large sum of money after secretly mortgaging his family home. Their aimless lives take a turn when they cross paths with Satheeshan and his brother, Nadeshan, a police officer. What was a chance encounter soon...

Been Dare, Done It All: On Mohanlal’s Birthday, Subhash K Jha Selects His 5 Finest Films
Image
In a career of 45 years Mohanlal has been ‘dare’ , done it all. His range of roles and spectrum of characters could put Burton, Brando and Bachchan to shame. Though some of his finest performances are in obscure films. Here is my pick of Mohanlal’s most memorable .

1. Kireedam (1989): A smash hit. Many consider Kireedam Mohanlal’s most influential film to date . It is the story of Sethumadhavan ths son of an honest police constable who ends up on the wrong side of law when he rescues his father from being assaulted by a local gangster’s henchmen. Director Sibi Malayil brings out the best in Mohanlal, showing him as both a loving son and a ferocious anti-social. Audiences loved maverick Mohanlal in both avatars. Mohanlal’s buddy Priyadarshan remade the film in Hindi as Gardish with Jackie Shroff in Mohanlal’s role. It wasn’t the same.

2. Kilukkam (1991):...

Image
This Malayalam Sci-Fi Film Is A Ride To 2040(Photo Credit –Prime Video)

Imagine a post-apocalyptic world where fossil fuels like petrol, diesel, and other internal combustion derivatives are no longer available. Everyone drives electric vehicles. Aliens have invaded this world. The state has complete control over what people do, eat, drink, and even think. To top it all off, an alien. Who appears as a girl, lives with a few bachelors, hiding away from the government. Where would a film like this be made? Hollywood, maybe? The concept clearly fits the mold previously laid out by other Hollywood films. Or perhaps Bollywood? But no, it’s a Mollywood film called Gaganachari. Yes, it’s a Malayalam-language film. The concept is high, but the budget was low. Yet, it doesn’t look cheap. It’s really impressive what they managed to do with the resources they had.

Nivin Pauly To Reunite With Premam Director Alphonse Puthren After 10 Years? Here’s What We Know
Image
Nivin Pauly & Alphonse Puthren To Collab After 10 Years? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

The collaboration between director Alphonse Puthren and actor Nivin Pauly has consistently struck gold at the box office. Their 2013 film Neram, featuring Nivin and Nazriya, was a success. Then came Premam in 2015, a massive blockbuster, later remade in several languages. It solidified Nivin’s status as a superstar. This was when Nivin Pauly was on a winning streak, with nearly all his films doing well at the box office.

However, times have changed for both Alphonse Puthren and Nivin Pauly. Since the lockdown, Nivin has seen little success at the box office, except for the multi-starrer Varshangalkku Shesham, in which he played a minor role. As for Alphonse Puthren, after 2016, he directed only one film, Gold, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, which disappointed audiences and critics.

According to OTTPlay, there is now hope that Nivin Pauly and Alphonse Puthren may reunite for a new project.

The curious arcs of villains turning to comedy roles in Malayalam cinema
Image
MollywoodIt is a testament to these actors’ caliber that their changeovers are not only received so well, but actively encouraged by fans of cinema. With that cracking loud voice of his, actor Janardhanan introduces himself – all too politely to the surprise of an audience unaccustomed to seeing him like that – as Ouseppachan, the miserable father-in-law of a woman found dead in the house. He is one of the suspects in the 1988 crime film Oru Cbi Diary Kuruppu. Up until then, Janardhanan had mostly played the unabashed villain in Malayalam films of the 70s and 80s. But for reasons best known to K Madhu, the director of Mammootty’s Cbi series, Janardhanan was cast as the harmless rich guy in the film, whose misfortunes somehow translated into comic relief for the audience. After this, the senior actor played comedian in movie after movie, one of his most loved sequences featuring in Mannar Mathai Speaking,...

Actor Innocent passes away at 75

DeathFrom being slapstick silly and lighthearted to sarcastic, shameless and quirky, there was no type of humour he couldn't pull off.Malayalam actor and politician Innocent passed away at the age of 75 at 10.30 pm on Sunday, March 26, due to Covid-19 related respiratory issues leading to organ failure and cardiac arrest. He might have had top-billing in only a handful of films but his sense of comic timing and razor sharp wit delivered in rib-tickling Thrissurian slang made him a scene-stealer in every film he was part of. He also wore many hats, first as an entrepreneur and later as a politician who fought an electoral battle and was elected as Member of Parliament representing Chalakudy constituency. He also served as the President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists for many years. Innocent, also a cancer survivor, revelled in narrating funny anecdotes and wrote light-hearted books about his illness. He...

The evolution of Suraj Venjaramoodu: Should the actor reinvent, once again?
Image
MollywoodAs one of those rare actors in Malayalam cinema who has effectively managed to make the transition from comedy to character roles, it is startling that Suraj seems to have suddenly reached stagnation in his career. There is a stillness about Roy that’s almost disquieting. A loner who had to be wooed by his current wife into marriage, Roy doesn’t really subscribe to the stereotypical notions of masculinity. In an earlier scene in the psychological thriller Roy, directed by Sunil Ibrahim, he scrubs the kitchen clean, calmly waits until midnight for his wife to come back from the office, and whips up a cup of coffee for her. He has a strange condition — he isn’t able to differentiate between his reality and dreams anymore, and some future events seem to be manifesting in his dreams. This is also strangely the pattern of roles Suraj Venjaramoodu has been...

ControversyLahari Music had drawn Rakshit Shetty’s home banner Paramvah Studios and music composer Ajaneesh Loknath to court for copyright violation in 2016.Tnm StaffRepresentativeImageOriginality is the main component in any form of creative work, which lets the creator stand apart from others. While one can be inspired by other creative works, the line is thin and the creator can be in trouble with copyright infringement rules. The most recent example is the popular song from Kantara – ‘Varaha Roopam’ – composed by Ajneesh Loknath. The ‘Varaha roopam’ song has glaring similarities with ‘Navarasam’ song from a Kerala based music band Thaikkudam Bridge. The music band has also announced that it would be filing a lawsuit against the creative team of Kantara.
