Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will be a streaming event for the first time on the Netflix YouTube channel. One of the highlights each year is the special In Memoriam segment. It’s been a particularly rough year with over 100 deaths of prominent actors and actresses who were likely members of SAG/AFTRA. Show producers typically are able to include approximately 40-50 people in a tribute.

Among that group will certainly be Oscar winners Louise Fletcher, William Hurt and Irene Cara, plus nominees Angela Lansbury (a SAG life achievement recipient) and Melinda Dillon. Emmy champs Mary Alice, Kirstie Alley, Leslie Jordan, Ray Liotta, Stuart Margolin, Robert Morse and Barbara Walters.

Producers of this Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony have some difficult decisions to make about who to honor during the emotional In Memoriam segment. Our list below includes almost 100 people who made a strong contribution to television and have died since mid-September of 2021 following the previous Emmys ceremony. Only about 40-45 of these people will probably be in the video segment. Conrad Janis, a prolific actor who starred in TV shows including “Mork & Mindy” and “The Cable Guy,” has died. He was 94.

The actor’s business manager Dean A. Avedon confirmed his death to TheWrap. “He was a longtime client and personal friend,” Avedon said. “He will be missed greatly.”

Janis was the son of noted art collectors and gallerists Sidney and Harriet Janis. In addition to his acting career, he was also a skilled jazz musician and, following in his parents’ footsteps, a gallerist. He began acting in 1945, when he appeared in the Broadway show “Dark of the Moon.” The same year, he starred in the wartime comedy film “Snafu.”

Over the next several decades, he appeared in several films, including the 1947 film “The Hagan Girl” starring Ronald Reagan and Shirley Temple. He also earned countless television credits, such as “The Untouchables,” “Get Smart,” “The Jeffersons,” and “Laverne & Shirley.

Conrad Janis, the “Mork & Mindy” star who played Mindy’s father, died on March 1 in Los Angeles, his business manager confirmed to The New York Times. He was 94.

In addition to acting, Janis was also a jazz trombonist and appeared on Broadway several times early in his career. He made his film debut in the 1945 comedy “Snafu” and appeared on the big and small screens through the early 2010s. After landing several film and TV roles, he got his biggest break on “Mork & Mindy” in 1978, where he played Fred McConnell, the father of Pam Dawber’s title character.

Janis was born Feb. 11, 1928, in Manhattan to New York art collectors and gallerists Sidney and Harriet Janis. Conrad Janis, a prolific character actor of TV, film and stage who had already become immediately recognizable even before landing his signature role opposite Robin Williams and Pam Dawber in the hit ’70s sitcom Mork & Mindy, died March 1 in Los Angeles. He was 94.

His death was confirmed by business manager Dean A. Avedon to The New York Times.

A son of the noted New York art collectors and gallerists Sidney and Harriet Janis, Janis, who along with his brother took over the family business, the Sidney Janis Gallery, later in life, was also a successful and lifelong jazz trombonist who even at the height of his Mork & Mindy success performed regularly with his group, the Beverly Hills Unlisted Jazz Band.

The first trailer dropped for Michael Emanuel's spiritual creature-feature based on the Algonquian Wendigo myth and I'm still trying to figure out if it'll be worth tracking down when it finally arrives. It looks like it's well made and full of some decent creature scares, but the way the promo's cobbled together just isn't doing it any favors.

Synopsis:

A former FBI profiler, now a sheriff of a small town and a single parent of a high school aged daughter, begins to profile a series of unexplained murders only to learn that the monster he's profiling may be himself.

Maneater stars a decent cast in Dean Cain, Conrad Janis ("The Cable Guy"), Stephen Lunsford, Walter Phelan ("House of 1000 Corpses"), Maximillian Roeg and Lacy Phillips ("Pushing Twilight").

Veteran actor Conrad Janis, best known as Mindy’s dad on the sitcom Mork & Mindy, has sent Fango word on a free screening of his new horror film Bad Blood…The Hunger this weekend in Los Angeles. The movie will unspool Saturday, February 21 at 6:45 p.m. at the Fine Arts Theater (8556 Wilshire Boulevard).

The film is showing courtesy of the Beverly Hills Hi-Def Film Festival, where it won second place last month. Bad Blood stars director Janis alongside Academy Award-nominated actress and Carrie star Piper Laurie as an old couple who take in a group of vacationing youths after their truck is driven off the road. Their hospitality is just a cover, however, as they are the leaders of a sinister cultlike group and the teens find themselves in serious danger. Shazbot, I’m late this week. But it’s still Thursday, so there’s still time to remake an 80s classic TV show or movie with an all-new cast. This week: Mork & Mindy, the 1978-82 ABC sitcom about the doofiest alien in the universe and the human girl who lets him sleep on her sofa. A new indie film we've been keeping an eye on as of late is Maneater, which we broke the news on here this past July. This morning the first image from Michael Emanuel's film appeared online and features a look at the Windigo monster in the film, which tells the story of an FBI profiler-turned-small-town sheriff who begins investigating a series of mysterious murders only to discover that the monster he's profiling might be himself. Dean Cain, Conrad Janis, Stephen Lunsford, Walter Phelan, Maximillian Roeg and Lacy Phillips all star. The creature was created by Jason (Albino Farm) Barnett and Bill Fesh.

• "Poltergeist" is the latest to go through the remake machine, and according to Variety, Stiles White and Juliet Snowden will write the script for MGM. The two also collaborated on the screenplays for Alex Proyas' "Knowing" and Martin Campbell's "The Birds."

• LatinoReview recently talked to Tyrese Gibson, who said he'll be involved in the upcoming big-screen version of "The A-Team." Now the question remains who he's going to play. B.A. Baracus, maybe? As far as I know, Ice Cube is also in the race to star in the role that once belonged to Mr. T. We'll see who wins the race.

• In a recent interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Russell Crowe said he's eyeing the main role in a biopic about American comedian Bill Hicks, who died of cancer at the age of 32. Crowe will next star in "Body of Lies."
