There was a hearing on Tuesday (February 25) where a judge seemingly signaled that a defamation suit could proceed against Tony. Jay was also pursuing a potential extortion case, which will seemingly not be picked up.

“The conduct alleged raises serious questions about whether Buzbee acted with actual malice, a key component in defamation cases involving public figures,” the judge ruled, noting that Tony had engaged with social media content that implied Jay was the celebrity involved in the lawsuit.

Yet, it seems the defamation claim from the “99 Problems” superstar’s initial suit will almost certainly go forward to trial.

In 2014, Billboard started considering multiple metrics of music success, including online streams and individual track sales, in addition to the traditional album sales that previously made up the entirety of the Billboard 200's chart determinations. An album sale currently counts as one album unit. Sales of 10 individual tracks also counts as one unit. But an artist needs 3,750 ad-supported streams or 1,250 paid subscription streams to equal one unit. Then in 2020 Billboard began counting music videos on platforms like YouTube.

Kendrick Lamar is on top of the world and is looking to stay there.

The rapper followed up his Feb. 2 Grammy sweep — where he won all five of his nominations for “Not Like Us” — by winning the Super Bowl on Sunday. Lamar’s halftime headline show at the Eagles-Chief game, featuring a medley of his tracks including “Not Like Us,” was an unqualified success. This tops what has been arguably the best of his career — and this man has a Pulitzer.

But the recognition may not be over yet. He surprise-released a new album, Gnx, back on Nov. 22, which means he’s eligible for Grammys again in 2026. And according to the current (and extremely early) Gold Derby odds, he’s on track to win Album of the Year.

Lamar has been nominated for Album of the Year regularly since 2014 when his Good Kid, M.A.A.D City made the cut.
