Rakesh was enjoying a mehendi ceremony in Nitte, near Udupi, when tragedy struck. Witnesses reported that he had been dancing happily with friends and family when, all of a sudden, he complained of discomfort, grabbed his chest, and collapsed to the ground. He was rushed to the nearest hospital but could not be revived. Doctors later confirmed that he had suffered a cardiac arrest.
The news shocked fans, particularly because Rakesh appeared to be healthy and reportedly had no serious medical issues. A viral video circulating online shows him dancing just moments before he collapsed, breaking hearts across the internet.

The genealogical tracing of a community, or even the discovery of a community as a result of colonization and slavery that had occurred over six centuries ago, is fascinating. The result is the exploration of one such community, the Siddi community (Siddi means the enlightened one). The Siddis reside within the forests of Karnataka, living and nourishing through the forest, drawing upon knowledge of their ancestry even as their ancestry is deleted, almost lost within the myths.
Director Jayan Cherian, who had shot the film in the town of Yellapur and the surrounding villages like Kelase, would hire people from that community to act in his film. Having been immersed within the community for over five years, he finally brings forth a narrative that would serve to highlight the coming-of-age of a 12-year-old youth from the Siddi community.
The movie’s beginning and ending, accompanied by dance and music are interesting bookends.

The South Asian House (Sah) initiative, which aims to highlight, recognize and appreciate South Asians in film and television, has unveiled its program for this year’s Tribeca Festival in New York.
For the centerpiece Build Bridges, Create Impact summit on June 12, Sah founders Monika Samtani and Rohi Mirza Pandya have partnered with Moxmo Media and Jayaram in collaboration with Facet, Walmart, and iHeartMedia. The afternoon will spotlight multiethnic talent and creative entrepreneurs with a focus on emerging leaders. Vivek Jayaram, founder of Jayaram Law, will lead the Script to Screen: How Do I Fund This Thing? session with filmmakers and funders, while Samtani will lead a discussion on supporting untapped talent.
