It’s been exactly one year since the final season of “Bling Empire” premiered, and reality TV veteran Jeff Jenkins, who has executive produced shows ranging from “The Simple Life” to “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” looks back at the Netflix series about affluent Asian Americans as one of his most personal and proudest projects.

“More than any other show I’ve ever produced in my 25 year career is closest to my heart,” Jenkins told TheWrap. “My niece and nephew were adopted as infants from China and South Korea, respectively. They’re teenagers now, but when they were coming up, there was almost no one like them on television on a regular basis, scripted or unscripted.”

“Luann and Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake” just finished its first season, and stars Luann de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan hope to hit the road again soon.

The Bravo series followed the two “Real Housewives of New York” alum as they traveled to Benton, Illinois, to revive the local tourism after the pandemic. While in Benton, de Lesseps and Morgan sampled the local attractions (including crappie fishing and a testicle festival) and men. Sunday’s Season 1 finale culminated with a variety show featuring the duo and Benton residents.

“When they asked us to do the show, we didn’t know what to expect,” de Lesseps told TheWrap. “And we say that often about starting a new season of ‘Housewives’ — you just never know, right? We went in kind of blindfolded. And we were really pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the people were.”

As you may have heard, the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con International was not the usual Sdcc experience.

On July 14, the American actors’ union SAG-AFTRA joined their writing counterparts in the WGA by going on strike and picketing the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for its refusal to grant them a fair deal. Since the details of the strike preclude actors and writers from promoting their union-backed films and TV shows, many of the planned panels, promotions, and guests at Comic-Con had to bow out.

The end result was a Con that very much resembled the event’s earlier days before it became a action item on the calendar for big studios like Marvel, DC, and others to showcase their upcoming blockbusters. And you know what? It was all still pretty cool!

Reality television producer Jeff Jenkins has worked with a lot of big personalities in his career, including the Kardashians, Paris Hilton and Mariah Carey. His newest show, Bravo’s “Luann and Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake,” features former “Real Housewives” Luann de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan. But despite their reputations — de Lesseps is a former countess and Morgan was married to Jp Morgan’s great-grandson, after all — Jenkins found himself surprised by the just how down to earth the duo were.

Comic-Con and the Party Report return to a SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike affected San Diego where celebrities avoided the party scene because of guild rules. As a result, EW canceled their annual (and usually star-studded) bash; an indication of a very different year at Sdcc — and on the comic-con parties scene. But the con raged on just the same, so here are TheWrap’s photos from some of Sdcc 2023’s best parties.

The annual Fandom, presented by Paramount+ and Electronic Arts, Z2 and Pinfinity, was easily and clearly con’s best and classiest bash on Thursday night.

Red carpet arrivals were packed with creators, influencers, industry partners, non-SAG talent, musicians and local celebrities. Fandom also hosted a group of children from the Make a Wish Foundation who got the red carpet treatment.

The ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA labor strikes, claimed their first major fan expo victim in San Diego Comic-Con 2023. Last year, the annual geek fest was back in full swing post-covid with the party scene returning with numerous bashes around Comic-Con.

But this year, with Hollywood talent practically forbidden from even attending the event, many brands have pulled out along with big-name party cancellations. Brands who sponsor Comic-Con bashes want Hollywood film and tv stars on their step and repeats. No stars? No brands? No parties.

Comic-Con’s biggest bash via Entertainment Weekly cancelled due to the strikes. IMDb, decided not to go forward with their annual yacht party, but will have a presence this year regardless. The yacht will serve as a floating fan experience and will be docked at Fifth Avenue Landing, directly behind the San Diego Convention Center.

Comic-Con 2023 is going to look like the cons of yore before Hollywood arrived.

Exclusive: Shondrella Avery, who starred in Napoleon Dynamite, is developing a slew of unscripted projects after striking a first-look deal with Bling Empire producer Jeff Jenkins Productions.

Avery is working with R&b star Macy Gray and four-time NBA champion John Salley on series as well as other projects featuring musicians, athletes and influencers.

She will work directly with Jjp President Jeff Jenkins, who exec produced Keeping Up With The Kardashians, to co-develop and produce series with an emphasis on Black and Bipoc talent.

Jeff Jenkins Productions, which is backed by 3Bmg, is also behind Netflix’s My Unorthodox Life, and Bravo’s upcoming Luann and Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake.

Anna Shay, star of Netflix reality series Bling Empire, has died. Shay died unexpectedly of a stroke Monday, her family shared in a statement to multiple media outlets. She was 62.

“It saddens our hearts to announce that Anna Shay, a loving mother, grandmother, charismatic star, and our brightest ray of sunshine, has passed away at the early age of 62 from a stroke,” Shay’s family said in the statement. “Anna taught us many life lessons on how not to take life too seriously and to enjoy the finer things. Her impact on our lives will be forever missed but never forgotten.”

Shay appeared as herself in all three seasons of Bling Empire, which launched January 15, 2021 and ran through October 5, 2022 on Netflix.

Anna Shay, heiress and star of Netflix’s Bling Empire, has died. She was 62.

The reality star died following a stroke, Shay’s family said in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter.

“It saddens our hearts to announce that Anna Shay, a loving mother, grandmother, charismatic star, and our brightest ray of sunshine, has passed away,” the family said. “Anna taught us many life lessons on how not to take life too seriously and to enjoy the finer things. Her impact on our lives will be forever missed, but never forgotten.”

Shay appeared on all three seasons of the Netflix reality series, which followed the success of the box office hit Crazy Rich Asians, until its cancellation. Who are Luann de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan?

Luann de Lesseps is an original cast member of “The Real Housewives of New York City” and appeared in 13 seasons of the show. She is known as “The Countess” due to her former marriage to French aristocrat Alexandre de Lesseps and her propensity to correct people’s manners.

Morgan joined “The Real Housewives of New York City” in Season 3. She was married to John Adams Morgan, the great-grandson of J.P. Morgan.

Both women are accustomed to luxurious living.
