Pedro Pascal prefers to have facial hair for his acting roles, and he has a reason.
The actor recently appeared on LADbible‘s “Agree To Disagree” video series with his The Fantastic Four: First Steps co-star Vanessa Kirby, where they were asked to debate at one point whether mustaches are sexier than beards.
That’s when The Last of Us star opened up about his preferences for facial hair when appearing onscreen after seeing himself clean-shaven as the villainous Maxwell Lord in 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984, starring Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot.
“I grow such shit facial hair, but if I were to shave it all off… I really look very [awful]. Strongly disagree with a clean shaven me,” Pascal said. “In Wonder Woman 1984, I was so appalled by the way I look. I loved the movie, but I was so appalled by the way that I looked that I never...

Over the course of the past few years, Pedro Pascal has become one of the most famous performers in all of Hollywood. This includes appearances in blockbuster franchises such as Star Wars, The Last of Us, and Game of Thrones, to critically acclaimed roles in smaller productions such as Ari Aster’s Eddington, Ethan Cohen’s Drive-Away Dolls, and Pedro Almodóvar’s Strange Way of Life.
While the multi-talented performer has been working within the industry for several decades, his recent outings have launched his popularity into the stratosphere, and nowhere is that more apparent than in his upcoming role as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Pedro Pascal Was “Appalled” by Wonder Woman 1984, But It Can’t Beat His Worst Look in Iconic TV Show
Pedro Pascal’s big breakthrough came when he starred as the goatee-having Dornish prince Oberyn Martell. He later portrayed the role of a mustache-carrying DEA agent Javier Peña in the Netflix show, Narcos.
Why are we talking about Pedro Pascal‘s facial hair, though? Because the actor decided to go completely clean-shaven for his role as Maxwell Lord in Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot‘s 2020 film, Wonder Woman 1984. The actor revealed (via Variety) he looks very awful when completely clean-shaven.
I grow such shit facial hair, but if I were to shave it all off… I really look very [awful].
Well, Pedro Pascal was saying it from experience as the actor starred as a completely-shaven Maxwell Lord, and he was “Appalled“ by the way that he looked (strongly agree).

Pedro Pascal faced off against his “Fantastic Four” co-star Vanessa Kirby during LADbible’s “Agree to Disagree” video series, in which they were asked to debate which is sexier: Mustaches or beards? Pascal has long rocked facial hair throughout his career, but there was one role that required him to go clean shaven. That would be the villainous Maxwell Lord in “Wonder Woman 1984,” Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s superhero sequel that released to theaters and HBO Max simultaneously on Christmas Day 2020.

DC Studios has finally chosen a writer for its new Wonder Woman movie. According to Variety, Ana Nogueira, who wrote the upcoming Supergirl film, has been hired to work on the reboot of Wonder Woman.
This news comes not long after Variety reported that DC was rushing to get the film moving, calling it a major priority for the studio. In fact, DC Studios co-head James Gunn told Entertainment Weekly that a Wonder Woman film “is being written right now.”
Nogueira is not new to the DC world. Besides Wonder Woman, she’s also working on a live-action Teen Titans movie for DC Studios.
Her first produced screenplay will be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is being directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Milly Alcock. That film is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. Before turning to writing, Nogueira worked as an actress, appearing in shows like The Vampire Diaries and Hightown.

Following the successful launch of Superman, DC Studios is ready to draft Wonder Woman, another member of the comic book studio’s holy trinity, for a brand-new film. According to The Wrap, playwright, actress, and screenwriter Ana Nogueira will pen the warrior princess’s next silver-screen outing.
Ana Nogueira is snapping up one writing gig after the next at DC Studios. She was tapped to pen the upcoming Supergirl film and the planned live-action adaptation of Teen Titans. With two high-profile projects under her belt, Nogueira is significantly helping shape the Gods and Monsters era of DC Studios.
In June, James Gunn said DC Studios plans to bring Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) back to the big screen. This is in addition to the already-announced HBO series Paradise Island, which will focus on Diana’s homeland of Themyscira. Previously, James Gunn said that, like Supergirl, DC Studios will take a distinct approach to Wonder Woman.

The Wrap reveals that Ana Nogueira has been tapped by DC Studios to write its upcoming Wonder Woman movie. She's someone James Gunn and Peter Safran clearly have a lot of faith in, as this will mark the playwright's third Dcu project.
The playwright and actor first came to our notice when she was hired by Warner Bros. to write a Supergirl movie, spinning out of 2023's The Flash. Sasha Calle was dumped from the role when DC Studios was formed, but Gunn and Safran immediately hired her to pen Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Directed by Craig Gillespie with Milly Alcock in the lead role, it's since been retitled Supergirl. Nogueira also wrote Teen Titans for DC Studios, which has yet to be officially greenlit. Now, it seems the studio wants the writer to prioritise bringing Diana Prince back to theaters.

DC Studios' new Wonder Woman reboot is gaining momentum as the film's writer has been revealed, one who is quickly becoming a key architect of the Dcu. Wonder Woman is one of the DC Trinity, alongside Superman and Batman, and a key figure in both DC Comics and the DC Universe's future. Despite not having a solo feature film announced during the initial Gods and Monsters slate in 2023, apart from a television prequel before her birth titled Paradise Lost, a feature film reboot is now being fast-tracked by Warner Bros.
Variety confirmed that Ana Nogueira is writing the script for the next Wonder Woman film. Nogueira is no stranger to the Dcu, as she penned the script for the upcoming Supergirl film and is also writing Teen Titans. With Superman in theaters, another major piece of James Gunn's strategy for DC Comics' return to box-office glory is falling into place. Ana Nogueira has been hired to pen the script for Wonder Woman, the latest big-screen outing for DC's premiere heroine. The film has not been formally announced yet, nor does it have a director, star, or projected release date.
Variety reports that DC is fast-tracking the project, which represents one of the studio's most famous and successful characters. Nogueira is a veteran TV actor, with credits on The Vampire Diaries, The Blacklist, and Hightown. She's recently made the pivot to screenwriting; her first movie script was DC's Supergirl, which will fly into theaters next summer with Milly Alcock filling the red boots of the Maiden of Might. DC Studios has hired “Supergirl” screenwriter Ana Nogueira to write its reboot of “Wonder Woman,” Variety has confirmed. Nogueira is also writing a live-action “Teen Titans” for the studio.
Wonder Woman has become a major priority for the studio. Variety reported on July 16 that DC was fast-tracking the feature project, and DC Studios co-chief James Gunn told Entertainment Weekly in June that a “Wonder Woman” movie “is being written right now.” The studio is also developing “Paradise Island,” a TV series for HBO set on Wonder Woman’s home of Themyscira, though Gunn has said progress on that project is “slow moving.”
Nogueira started her career as an actor, including on “The Michael J. Fox Show,” “The Vampire Diaries” and most recently the crime series series “Hightown.” “Supergirl,” directed by Craig Gillespie (“Cruella”) and starring Milly Alcock (“House of the Dragon”), will be her first produced screenplay; it’s adapted...

As the Dcu builds to the eventual evolution of the Justice Gang into the Justice League, fans are very curious about its potential roster. We already have the Man of Steel to lead the way, along with Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, and Metamorpho, but who will occupy the remaining spots?
James Gunn recently confirmed that a new Wonder Woman script is currently in development, emphasizing that the project has a strong creative direction and will stand apart from the version brought to life by Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot.
“I’m excited, I’m very excited about Wonder Woman right now,” Gunn said, signaling a fresh take on the iconic character in the new Dcu.
A Dcu Wonder Woman movie was announced last month, and by all accounts, the project has been fast-tracked for production.

James Gunn's Superman is now in theaters, and has been performing reasonably well at the box office. Well enough to serve as a launching pad for an entire franchise?
In Variety's report on the first Dcu movie's theatrical debut, its budget and the salaries paid to the cast and director (Gunn reportedly pocketed $15M), the trade notes that "the refrain heard on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank and around Hollywood was 'Good enough,' accompanied by a sigh of relief as Gunn’s movie lifted off to $220 million worldwide, ushering in a 10-year vision for DC."
Though one box office analyst views Superman's opening weekend haul as a "slightly underwhelming start for DC and WB,” the studio clearly intends to forge ahead with plans for its "Gods and Monsters" slate (and beyond), although it sounds like a direct sequel to Superman (whatever form that's likely to take) might...

The new DC Universe is officially upon us. James Gunn, the director of Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy, and producer Peter Safran took over as the heads of DC Studios at Warner Bros. back in early 2023. They have built a plan for the Dcu that spans the next several years at least. It all started, in earnest, with the release of "Superman" in theaters last weekend. So, what comes next? A sequel may happen at some point, but it doesn't sound like it'll be coming to fruition anytime super soon.
According to Variety, "a sequel announcement does not appear to be imminent." This comes after "Superman" opened to $220 million worldwide, which included $125 million at the domestic box office. There is some concern that international audiences thus far haven't shown up as much as those in the U.S, but for now, Warner Bros. is happy or, at the least,...

If you've been around the Star Wars fandom for a while, you've probably heard of some of the most infamous projects in a galaxy far, far away that were never finished or released. From the Star Wars: Underworld TV show to the Sword of the Jedi book series, not everything fans have looked forward to has become available to enjoy.
Of all the canceled Star Wars projects floating around out there in the land of uncertain futures, there are a few that stand out as true tragedies. We're still holding out hope that Lucasfilm will revisit them someday.
1. Rangers of the New Republic
Star Wars doesn't have many on-screen projects that focus on the lesser-known operations within the New Republic era. Rangers of the New Republic would have offered a refreshing and unique perspective on the government's operations throughout the galaxy in the years leading up to The Force Awakens.

One of the best things to come out of Disney+ since 2019 is the diverse, talented pool of Star Wars directors resulting from it. With movies happening so infrequently, only a handful of directors would otherwise get the chance to bring their skills and unique perspectives to a galaxy far, far away.
While there aren't any Star Wars film trilogies coming out anytime soon, there are a few standout directors who could really bring the best the industry has to offer to such long-form projects. Here are just a few essential candidates.

Twilighttook a huge bite out of the box office when it was released in 2008, pulling in a bloodsucking $70.6 million opening haul in the United States and Canada, while also setting a new record at the time for the biggest opening weekend for a female-directed film. Catherine Hardwicke helmed the vampire romance, based on the 2005 novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer, and its commercial success paved the way for the saga to become a multi-billion-dollar juggernaut — but the studio didn't part with too much money for her gift.
During an interview with The Guardian, the Twilight filmmaker recalled receiving an insultingly small gift from the film distributor, Summit Entertainment, which was perhaps made worse by the fact that she knew successful male directors in the same position as her might be gifted "a car, or a three-picture deal, or [getting] to do basically whatever you want" after a similar triumph.

For a rising filmmaker with a short to market, few honors are more important than being named a Vimeo Staff Pick. The program, which selects a notable short film every weekday, has honored filmmakers including Charlotte Wells, David Lowery, Ari Aster, the Daniels, and Josh and Benny Safdie since its inception in 2008. There hasn't been a Star Wars movie in theaters since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. That might not seem like that big a deal — after all, 10 years passed between the end of the prequel trilogy, and the start of the sequel trilogy, and before that fans waited 19 years between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace. But this is a new age where big franchises like Star Wars can't be allowed to go three minutes without putting something new to watch; just look at the rush of Star Wars on Disney+ if you don't believe me.
But next year, we will get a new Star Wars movie: The Mandaorian & Grogu, a big screen continuation of the TV show The Mandalorian. Is it wise for Disney to take a TV series and ask fans to come to the movie theater if they want to see what happens next? We'll find out,...

The DC Universe is still missing two parts of its famous Trinity, Batman and Wonder Woman. Right now, only Superman has been officially confirmed, while the other two heroes haven’t even been cast yet.
Gal Gadot played Wonder Woman in the previous Dceu movies. Her 2017 Wonder Woman film was a big hit, making $821.8 million at the box office.
But the follow-up, Wonder Woman 1984, did much worse. It only made $169.6 million and didn’t get great reviews. This was partly because the movie came out during the pandemic, which hurt its chances.

When it comes to the Dcu, only “one part” of the Trinity is currently confirmed, Superman, since Batman and Wonder Woman haven’t even been cast yet.
Gal Gadot previously played Wonder Woman in the Dceu, starring in the 2017 film. That movie was a huge success, earning $821.8 million at the box office.
So, it was surprising when Wonder Woman 1984 turned out to be both a critical and box office disappointment, bringing in just $169.6 million. However, it’s important to remember that the pandemic heavily affected its performance.
Gadot was expected to appear in another Wonder Woman project, but like Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck when the Dceu was scrapped, she was eventually let go.

The California legislature has approved as part of a budget package an increase to the state’s allotment of funds for filming tax credits, moving up more than double from $330 million to $750 million annually, which is right at the originally proposed figure from California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The two bills, SB630 and AB1138, both passed the state senate and assembly early in June, but the line item noting $750 million specifically, which Newsom first suggested last October, was absent, leaving the final total up for negotiation as part of the larger budget debates. The increased tax credits have been designed to incentivize more productions to shoot in the state of California and hold back the tide of film and TV shoots moving out of state or out of country, costing thousands of veteran film professionals jobs in California.

The California production community will be keeping a close eye on the state Capitol on Friday as lawmakers are set to seal the deal on the expansion to the Film & TV Tax Credit Program, offering some crucial amendments to the current initiative and boosting its funding to $750 million annually.
The Legislature is expected to vote ahead of the weekend on a trailer bill to make the legal changes needed to implement the budget they agreed upon earlier this week.
This is a win for both Gov. Gavin Newsom, who made the ambitious proposal in October, and the state’s struggling film and television industry — but it took quite a lot of people to make it happen. The industry has coalesced in recent months around this issue, bringing together production workers, union leaders and prominent filmmakers to plead their case to the decision makers in Sacramento.

Lawmakers in California have approved the plan to more than double annual funding for the state’s tax credit programme to $750m, according to reports, though a formal vote is still a few days away.
The increase in annual funding from the current $330m was first proposed by state Governor Gavin Newsom last October, as a response to the continuing production slump that has affected the state since the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
But the $750m figure was not included in the 2025-2026 state budget that lawmakers approved earlier this week. Instead, the figure has had to be introduced in a ‘trailer bill’ to the budget.

The news that Tinseltown has been waiting to hear has finally come: California lawmakers have approved Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposal to allocate $750M annually to the Film & TV Tax Credit Program.
Deadline understands that a formal vote will be held Friday on the trailer bill to make it official.
The Legislature has continued to negotiate on the state’s final budget ahead of the July 1 start to the fiscal year, despite holding a formal vote on June 15, to address about a $12B deficit. After lawmakers had removed language regarding the specific funding amount from its bills to amend the program, there were some questions about whether the full $750M would make it into the final budget.
However, this funding has been one of Newsom’s top priorities since he proposed it in October. In recent weeks, filmmakers had been traveling to Sacramento to plead their case to lawmakers. The trip,...

California lawmakers have about one week left to lock in the state’s annual budget with billions of dollars of funding decisions still to be made. Among them is Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposed expansion for the Film & TV Tax Credit Program — and some prominent filmmakers are asking legislative leaders for support.
Earlier this month, the Legislature passed SB630 and AB1138 with provisions to amend the program, but the bills were missing key language allocating $750M annually to more than double the funding for these incentives. That language would’ve codified the annual allocation, which is now left up to negotiation within the budget.
Still, Newsom and several other state lawmakers including Sen. Ben Allen and Assemblymember Rick Zbur have sought to ensure that line item remains in the budget as legislative leaders contend with a projected $12B deficit.

For a while now, we've known that Disney is developing a new Star Wars movie that would follow up with Rey (Daisy Ridley) after the events of the sequel trilogy; that means this movie would be set later in the Star Wars timeline than any other film or TV show. But now, entertainment news hound Daniel Richtman is reporting that the movie is "on hold":
The Rey movie is on hold once again, as both the Shawn Levy and James Mangold Star Wars films are moving forward first. The project is not canceled — just temporarily on hold.
Shawn Levy is working on a Star Wars movie called Starfighter; that one will star Ryan Gosling and will also be set after the sequel trilogy. Meanwhile, James Mangold is taking things back with a movie called Dawn of the Jedi, which sounds like it'll be a prequel set long before any of the Star Wars movies.

On June 11, as protests raged in Los Angeles over the escalating immigration crackdown and California legislators furiously attempted to address a $12 billion budget shortfall, state Sen. Ben Allen issued a gentle reminder to top Hollywood creatives that politicos had a lot more on their minds than movies and TV shows.
“Keep in mind the pressures that everyone is under right now,” the legislator told a group of industry players in the Capitol’s swing-space office building. Substantive cuts to healthcare, social and public services were on the table — in fact, the chants of protestors outside the building were echoing as he was speaking. “You’re under a lot of pressures; we’re under a lot of pressures.”
His rapt listeners wouldn’t have looked out of place at a glamorous Oscars after-party, and they had been tasked with doing the kind of delicate politicking and advocacy that on the West Side of L.

Star Trek’s Captain Kirk has always been the symbol of masculinity in the ‘60s era. The way he talks and takes charge was seen as a representation of the ideal man of that age, and William Shatner’s performance added a lot to this identity. So, when Chris Pine came into the role, he tried to do his best to break it and not make it toxic.
Pine has since made it his mission to break such stereotypes. The actor played a father who was willing to be the butt of the joke in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Theives, and he poked fun at ultra-masculine cult leaders in Don’t Worry, Darling. Perhaps his biggest exploration in this space was his role as Steve Trevor in DC’s Wonder Woman.

In a recent interview with Variety, Rockwell made headlines for his praise of Coogler’s work in the recent 1930s-based horror movie, Sinners.
Rockwell likened the success of Sinners to that of Wonder Woman, helmed by Patty Jenkins. His comment comes as an encouraging pat on the back- an acknowledgement of Coogler’s writing and directorial prowess in delivering an R-rated, genre-bending movie full of sensuality and gritty themes. Sam Rockwell is singing the praises of “Sinners.” The “White Lotus” actor told Variety that “Sinners” succeeding at the box office is a beacon of hope for Hollywood.
“It was encouraging because it was rated R, you know? The sexuality felt palpable,” Rockwell said. “And the fact that it made a bunch of money while mixing all these genres — ‘From Dusk Till Dawn,’ ‘Sounder,’ ‘Devil in a Blue Dress’ — I thought that was encouraging. It’s a big swing. And it made a lot of money, just like ‘Wonder Woman.’ That was a big swing, too. Made by a woman [Patty Jenkins]. Did very well.”
Rockwell compared “Sinners” to Academy Award-winning films that also transcended genre. “‘Birdman’ is another one. On paper, you’d think, ‘That movie’s not going to do anything.’ But it was amazing,” he said. “Same with ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.’ Everybody turned it down — Gene Hackman,...

With Wonder Woman officially set to grace the DC Universe, a fan-favorite for the coveted role is addressing her chances of portraying Diana Prince in a planned film about the popular superhero. Former Scream franchise star Melissa Barrera admits it's a "nice" opportunity, but isn't tooting her own horn to play the character.
Speaking with A Shot Magazine, Barrera discussed the rumor that she's a frontrunner for the Dcu's Wonder Woman film following DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn's confirmation that a new movie is in the works. Wonder Woman fans have been wondering what DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran had in store for the iconic DC Comics character ever since the first "Gods and Monsters" slate announcement, and Gunn finally shared a positive update during a recent interview with EW.
"Wonder Woman's a separate thing, slow moving, but it's moving," said the Superman director. "We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now."
Gunn didn't mention who is penning the script, but there's speculation that he may be writing the project himself, or possibly even planning to introduce the hero in his Superman follow-up, which he has already confirmed will not be a "straight sequel."

Dcu boss James Gunn has revealed that a new Wonder Woman movie is in development – but no Gal Gadot this time.
DC Studios boss James Gunn has confirmed that a new take on Wonder Woman is in development as we speak, with a script currently being worked on.
As Warner Bros’ superhero division prepares for the launch of its new-look cinematic universe with the upcoming release of Superman next month, there are plenty of projects that we know about in the works and presumably, plenty that we likely don’t know about. However, with Gunn’s announcement we can now add a Wonder Woman film to the list of upcoming DC movies to look forward to.

Wonder Woman will officially be part of James Gunn’s DC Universe. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the DC Studio head confirmed that a new movie centered on the Amazonian hero is actively in development.
“Wonder Woman’s being written right now,” Gunn said, while also confirming the lead role has not been cast yet.
News of the project follows a period of uncertainty for the character. A third Wonder Woman film starring Gal Gadot and set to be directed by Patty Jenkins was scrapped by Warner Bros. in 2022, shortly after Gunn and Peter Safran were hired to lead DC Studios. In August 2023, Gadot claimed she would be reprising the role in a movie she was co-developing with the new studio heads.
A few days later, however, it was reported that DC Studios was not developing Wonder Woman 3 at the time, nor were there immediate plans for a standalone project.

Unlike the MCU, much of the Dcu’s plans remain in shadow. James Gunn could be taking us to Themyscira sooner than expected. The Dcu-head told Entertainment Weekly that a Wonder Woman movie is "being written right now." He clarifies this is different from the Paradise Lost prequel series at HBO that will be about the Amazons of Themyscira. That project, Gunn says, is "slow moving, but it's moving." Gunn also tells Entertainment Weekly that Wonder Woman has not yet been cast. All this ahead of the release of the highly anticipated Superman movie from Gunn's Dcu, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. Gunn notes that in terms of looking to four of the bigger players in the Dcu: Batman, Superman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman, "I wouldn't say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we're dealing with the other two.

When actress Mira Sorvino thinks about what and who helped her launch her career, she credits Tribeca Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal for giving her that break.
“Jane Rosenthal actually gave me my first job in the industry. It started off being a volunteer position — I was an intern at Tribeca Productions, reading scripts. Then it turned into a paid position as a reader after they ended up liking my coverage. I did that for two years, and during that time I actually read the script Amongst Friends that ended up being the first feature that I ever starred in. Tribeca Film Festival co-founder and recent Variety cover star Jane Rosenthal hosted the annual Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program luncheon with the legacy fashion house on June 6.
Miley Cyrus attended just hours before her world premiere of “Something Beautiful,” The project places the pop-music icon in the director’s chair along with Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter.
“Throughout my career, my story has been told from so many lenses outside of myself and from so many perspectives outside of myself. I’ve been shot by so many photographers and directors and never been able to actually get behind the lens and see myself in the way that I do,” Cyrus told Variety on the carpet. “That’s something that makes it feel like really special and really intimate because I’ve never really gotten to actually tell my story in a way that really is this first person.

But the legendary actor was still moved by the gesture of being named the Kering Women in Motion awardee on Sunday night at the luxury fashion house’s 10th annual gala during the Cannes Film Festival.
“I’m so happy to be here supporting women’s voices in cinema,” Kidman said as she floated down the press line outside of the glamorous dinner held at the Place de la Castre, overlooking the Croisette. “I’m an advocate and want to continue moving forward with my pledge. It ain’t over.”
