Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for Episode 7 of Season 2 of The Buccaneers.
Just as there are many elaborate weddings in Apple TV+’s The Buccaneers, Season 2 has made way for some equally complex divorce proceedings, culminating in a court battle between Patricia “Patti” St. George and her unfaithful husband Colonel Tracy St. George in Episode 7.
Divorce during The Gilded Age, the period in which the show is set was only given permission on the grounds that there was adultery, and even then, there had to be evidence. HBO’s The Gilded Age series tackles the same thing in Season 3, which is currently rolling out.
“We did a lot of research about how women had to prove that an infidelity had happened. They couldn’t just say it, they had to prove it. In New York at the time, people would even hire people to come in and say that...

Everyone keeps talking about how nostalgia is back, but for those of us who grew up in the analog glow of rotary phones, cassette tapes, and Saturday morning cartoons, it never really went anywhere.
While younger generations are out here rediscovering scrunchies, Polaroids, and oversized flannels, we’ve been sitting quietly in the background, watching.
We weren’t trying to be cool, because for us, it just was.
(Patrick Wymore/Paramount+ with Showtime)
We didn’t live our youth for the camera. We weren’t documenting it for likes. Our coolest moments weren’t planned — they were messy, accidental, and unforgettable.
And now, somehow, TV is finally starting to reflect that.

Following months of speculation, Deadline has confirmed that Academy Award-nominee Ana de Armas (Ballerina; No Time to Die; Knives Out) has indeed signed on to star opposite Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible; Top Gun: Maverick; Edge of Tomorrow) in his upcoming undersea supernatural thriller Deeper.
Plot details are buried deep, but the promising feature follows an astronaut who encounters a terrifying force while on a deep dive into a never-before-explored trench.
The film, which has been in the works for nearly a decade, will be helmed by Doug Liman, who previously worked with Cruise on Edge of Tomorrow and American Made, both of which were critical and commercial successes.
Cruise and de Armas have been photographed together at multiple events this past year, which has sparked dating rumors, but Dhd claims the pair are currently undergoing the extensive diving training required for the project.

Who else wants to kickstart the #FreeMcKay campaign?
It can’t just be us. After the harrowing events of the mass shooting, it seemed that things were dying down for Cassie McKay and the rest of the hospital on The Pitt Season 1 Episode 14.
But that wasn’t the case when the final moments had the cops coming to arrest McKay after a long day of saving lives because she tampered with her ankle monitor. Boo! Hiss. Leave our girl alone!
( Warrick Page/Max)
I proudly say that McKay is “our girl” because The Pitt has done a phenomenal job presenting us with relatable, very real characters that resonate with the audience.
And without a doubt, McKay is one of those compelling characters.

Tom Cruise’s latest movie has reportedly been thrown into disarray after a leading male cast member was said to have suffered a “horror injury” on set and ended up in hospital with injuries to his pelvis and leg.
The movie has been forced to halt filming at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England, but no further details have been revealed at this time. The film, which is currently shooting under the working title of Judy, stars Cruise as the most powerful man in the world, a megalomanic who tries to save humanity. The movie also stars John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, and Riz Ahmed. According to The Sun, a source claimed:
“The actor is renowned for loving spectacular stunts which obviously involve some element of danger and the risk of injury - though they always strive to keep any risk to an absolute minimum. This incident won’t just be alarming...

September 5, one of the best thrillers of last year, is now streaming on Paramount+, and clearly audiences are intrigued, as the real-time thriller debuted at the top of the charts. The film premiered on the streamer on February 25 and, after one day, had climbed up the most popular movies list, where it has now fallen down to third behind swords and sandals sequel Gladiator 2 and video game follow-up Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Directed by Tim Fehlbaum, September 5 proved to be a somewhat controversial release, as it follows the events that transpired in Munich on September 5, 1972, during the Summer Olympics. On that day, the ABC team in charge of sports coverage decided to show to the entire world what was happening in the Olympic villas when a group of terrorists took Israeli athletes hostage. Led by Roone Arledge, the president of the ABC Sports division, the crew at the station...

Since the Silent Era of cinema, monsters like werewolves, vampires, and aliens have given audiences some brilliant movies, with recent movies like Nosferatu and Blumhouse's The Wolf Man delivering some great terror. Using isolation to ramp up the fear, these films offer everything from jump scares to non-stop suspense and paranoia as audiences are left to watch as characters are hunted by creatures of the night.
Monsters can bring more to a story than simple horror, with many of the best monster movies exploring themes of morality, religion, and human emotion, using creatures as metaphors. From remakes of beloved B-movies to modern reinterpretations of influential literature, these movies helped make modern horror cinema the powerhouse that it is. For those who loved Blumhouse's modernization of The Wolf Man, there are plenty of other great films to watch.

September 5 is a perfectly fine thriller, telling the story of the ABC team that broadcast the 1972 Munich Olympics hostage situation to over 900 million people around the world. It has both the feel of a made-for-tv movie (back when they were good) and a traditional "process" thriller, and it succeeds in both regards. Where it falters, though, is when it wrestles with the ideas at the core of the film, opting for an apolitical approach that rings hollow.

Tim Fehlbaum and John Palmer are bringing a fresh approach to one of history's more shocking events in September 5. The true-story-based thriller marks an interesting departure from Fehlbaum's past work in the sci-fi genre with 2011's Hell, which was produced by disaster genre vet Roland Emmerich, and 2021's Colony, which was led by American Star's Nora Arnezeder and Dune: Prophecy's Sarah-Sofie Boussnina. For Palmer, on the other hand, the movie continues his streak of grounded stories with Sean Penn's Flag Day and Asphalt City.

Releasing in theaters on December 13, September 5 is a gripping historical thriller that starts off as a sports movie. Starring Peter Sarsgaard and Ben Chaplin, September 5 dives into the Munich Massacre, which is the name given to the hostage crisis that occurred at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, West Germany. At the event, the Palestinian militant group known as "Bloody September" infiltrated the Olympic Village, killing two Israeli athletes and capturing nine others.
The film, September 5, places the spotlight not on the terrorists, athletes, or West German police involved in the Munich Massacre, but rather on the ABC sports team who followed the crisis in real time. September 5 foregrounds questions of narrative and journalistic ethics without ever losing the tension and pacing of a thriller. After releasing at the 81st Venice Film Festival on August 29, 2024, fans of historical dramas and thrillers alike have the chance to watch September 5 in a limited theatrical release this winter.

Journalism thrillers have a long history at the Oscars — All the President’s Men and Best Picture-winner Spotlight being among the most influential in the genre. Although September 5 does not reach those heights, it is a consistently entertaining picture with strong crafts and a solid ensemble.
September 5 Review
September 5 follows the ABC Sports broadcasting team as they find themselves in over their heads at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany, having to report on a hostage crisis in which a group of Israeli athletes are taken by a group of terrorists. It’s a story that many people know (and has been told in film before) but from a different perspective than we usually see.
This blend of journalism drama and political thriller results in an utterly gripping thriller. Even though the story takes place over the course of an entire day, Tim Fehlbaum does a great job of ramping...

The trailer for September 5 brings the ethical and moral dilemmas that journalists face to the forefront when an ABC Sports team on the ground in Munich for the 1972 Olympics pivot to covering the terrorist attacks that took place in the Olympic Village that year.
The most in-depth look at the film thus far begins on a regular Olympics morning as the sports newsroom begins covering the games on Sept. 5, 1972, but before they know it, they’re thrust into an entirely different story.
“There’s a hostage situation going on right now in the Olympic Village,” John Magaro’s Geoff says in the trailer, as ABC News insists on taking over the story since the sports team is in “way over your head.” But legendary TV executive Roone Arledge, portrayed by Peter Sarsgaard, shuts the news team down and states the sports team will handle it.
“What do I tell the cameras?...

New York City honored late media titan Sumner Redstone by renaming a segment of West 44th Street outside Paramount Global headquarters as Sumner Redstone Way.
City Council Member Erik Bottcher joined Paramount co-CEOs George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy and Brian Robbins as well as Redstone’s daughter, Paramount Chair Shari Redstone, for a Times Square ceremony Wednesday.
The city said it made the move as a salute to Redstone’s “distinguished leadership contributions to the media and entertainment industry over many decades, as well as his fierce dedication to civic and community affairs.”
Redstone died in 2020 at age 97. The self-made businessman, philanthropist and World War II veteran built a media empire out of a small Boston movie theater circuit, turning Viacom into a global powerhouse. In 2019, it merged with CBS Corp. and was later renamed Paramount Global, reflecting the brand clout of the movie studio Redstone acquired after a memorable battle with Barry Diller.

Tim Fehlbaum‘s September 5 — a Venice Film Festival world premiere about the terrorist attack that occurred at the 1972 Munich Olympics — is not a documentary. But the filmmaker, who made a mark in science fiction films like The Colony and Hell, treated it like one.
That meant that Fehlbaum and his team spent many months in a tireless research process to discover how the events unfolded, minute-by-minute, while also working with a set and production design team to create an authentic replica of a sports broadcasting facility like the one the ABC Sports team used in Munich on that fateful day, the filmmaker said during a September 5 press conference held in Venice on Thursday afternoon.
“When the idea came up for us to maybe tell the story [of September 5], it became a research conversation,” Fehlbaum said, adding that conversations with an eyewitness named Geoffrey Mason (played in the film by John Magaro) fueled...

Alex Garland, long-time collaborator of Danny Boyle and the director responsible for Men, Annihilation, and Civil War, has shared details about his favorite filmmaking experience. During a special event at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in which he and producing collaborator Andrew McDonald sat down to speak about their career, Garland pointed to Ex Machina as his favorite film to make. The movie celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and was Garland's directorial feature debut. Up until that point, Garland had been a novelist and writer for feature films like 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Dredd.
But in 2013, Garland decided to keep his vision intact by directing his next script and thereby ensuring creative control. "I never wanted to be a director. I wanted to stop directors from changing things and the only way to do that was by occupying that position," Garland said during the film festival, adding:
"I enjoyed Ex Machina very much.

Films like Ex Machina and Demon Seed blur the line between psychological thriller and horror, exploring the dangers of artificial intelligence. Hardware and Virus showcase unique and chilling killer robot designs, creating practical and visually striking horror aesthetics. From the uncanny Valley effect to bloodthirsty animatronics, the evolution of robotic villains in horror movies is both entertaining and terrifying.
It's rare for horror movies to use robotic villains as their antagonists, but there are a rare few that manage to make killer automatons seem downright terrifying. Compared to horror movies starring ghosts, traditional human slashers, demons or other monsters, killer robot films seem to be at a disadvantage. It can be hard to find a way to make a sleek-looking automaton seem threatening, and the human-made nature of robotics makes them more "knowable" and practical threats to overcome.
That being said, many sci-fi horror classics have found ways to make...

Warner Bros. Discovery added 2 million direct-to-consumer (Dtc) subscribers in the first quarter of 2024. It now has a total of 99.6 million Dtc subscribers across Max, linear HBO, Discovery+, and some relatively small international streamers you’ve never heard of — don’t worry about those.
It’s just the second straight quarter of a return to Dtc-subscriber growth after three straight quarters of losses. The combination of HBO Max and Discovery+ was bound to cannibalize some subscriptions in the early going, and that is exactly what it did.
The company’s Dtc business made an $86 million profit in the recently ended January-to-March quarter. David Zaslav, the Wbd president and CEO, shorthands that segment to “streaming,” so you can too — but anyone who gets the HBO channel through their cable provider is counted there as well.
