A boat drifts into New York Harbour and when a couple of patrolmen climb aboard to investigate, one of them is attacked by a zombie and other shoots the reanimated corpse, causing it to fall into the Hudson. The boat belonged to the father of Anne Bowles (Tisa Farrow) who, after being questioned by police, sets out to find out what happened to her dad, teaming up with roving reporter Peter West (Ian McCulloch). They learn that Anne’s father is gravely ill on the island of Matool and they set sail to the Caribbean to investigate further…

Few Hollywood starlets have had the kind of career that Angelina Jolie has had over the years in the business. She has most recently made waves with her performance as the opera singer Maria Callas in the newest Pablo Larraín trilogy film. However, long before spearheading the cast of Maria, Jolie's career was quite fruitful. Jolie, who began acting as a child in 1982, has grown tremendously as an artist, taking on roles in a variety of successful and challenging films.
Jolie has cemented herself as one of the most versatile actors of her generation, from performances like the trouble-making sociopath Lisa in Girl, Interrupted, to the classic evil sorceress in Disney's Maleficent, the latter leading up to a possible Maleficent 3. Though Jolie has occasionally taken breaks from acting to pursue humanitarian work and directing, her career has hardly slowed down, and it's clear why. Actors like Jolie are hard to come by,...

This article contains brief discussions of graphic violence and sexual assault.
The scariest horror movies rely on graphic violence and an oppressive atmosphere to shock viewers, but some of them have crossed boundaries and ended up getting banned in multiple countries. It often happens that a horror movie takes things a little too far, leaving many a viewer wishing they could unsee the terrors that played out before them. When terrifying movies like The Evil Dead or The Exorcist first came out, they were too much to handle for many viewers, causing some countries to completely remove them from cinemas.
Binge-watching the best spine-chilling horror movies is a favorite pastime all year around. Whether slashers, thrillers, supernatural, or twisted black comedy thrillers like 2023's Saltburn, the horror genre provides an exhilarating combination of anticipation and fear that creates the perfect atmosphere for movie nights filled with shrieks and screams. Sydney Sweeney is to play Kim Novak in 'Scandalous'.The 27-year-old star will take on the role of the 'Vertigo' icon in the flick that will tell the story of the love affair the actress had with the legendary dancer and Rat Pack singer Sammy Davis Jr., as portrayed by David Jonsson, in 1957.The Miramax movie, which marks Sweeney's 'Euphoria' co-star Colman Domingo's directorial debut, will enter production once the pair have finished working on the third season of the HBO drama series. As well as starring in the picture, the 'Anyone But You' actress will be producing 'Scandalous' alongside Tani Cohen and Bobby Rock, while Matthew Fantaci writes the script. Association with any pre-existing intellectual property, regardless of whether its official or not, can sometimes guarantee recognition and success. One of the most well-known examples, one thats gained a reputation as one of the biggest best worst movies since Manos: The Hands of Fate, is Troll 2, Claudio Fragassos in-name-only sequel, which has spawned one of the largest cult followings in history. If Troll 2 has spawned a legacy due to its ridiculousness, then Lucio Fulcis Zombie, sometimes referred to as Zombi 2 or Zombie Flesh Eaters, deserves praise for capitalizing on the success of a horror franchise and at the same time being one of the unique entries in the canon of films that depict the living dead.
Capitalizing on the massive success of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, which was released in Italy under the title Zombi, the title Zombi 2 made it look like a clear sequel to Italian viewers.

Colman Domingo is set to make his feature directorial debut with “Scandalous,” a period drama about the 1950s romance between movie star Kim Novak and singer Sammy Davis Jr., and the bigoted scrutiny that the pair faced once their relationship came to light. Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson are in talks to play the two leads.
Miramax is working to fast track the project, which remains in early stages of development. Producers have hopes to shoot next year after Domingo and Sweeney have finished filming the third season of HBO’s “Euphoria.”
As it went, Novak and Davis first connected when they both appeared as guests on “The Steve Allen Show” in 1956. The two continued to meet, with Davis making visits to the set of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo” during the next year. They met again at a Thanksgiving charity ball in California, which led to the pair spending the holidays together.

Yesterday, King Charles and Camilla arrived in Australia for His Majesty’s first visit to the country since taking the throne.
King Charles And Queen Camilla Were Met With Opposition
Crowds in the street warmly welcomed them. The King and Queen were presented with flowers, adorable stuffed koalas, and other goodies.
It was appreciated that the King took the time to travel to the “land down under”, halting his ongoing cancer treatment to do so.
The well-wishers’ loud cheers were impressive. Unfortunately, some people weren’t so hospitable. Some locals chanted, “Get lost” and “Get a life.” They arrived at St. Thomas’s Anglican Church in North Sydney.
Whenever royal family members visited the church, they signed the Bible that belonged to Rev Richard Johnson, the first Christian minister in Australia. The late Queen Elizabeth signed it in 1954. She was the first monarch from Britain to put her John Hancock on it.

Tomb Raider has had several TV and movie adaptations in the past while some are faithful adaptations that demand attention, others are not worthy additions to the overarching franchise. The Tomb Raider franchise has been around for over two decades, and, even though it is best known for action-adventure video games, it has successfully expanded into other storytelling mediums. From film adaptations to comic books, from animated TV shows to novels, the Tomb Raider lore is spread across many different platforms.
Even though not all extensions of the franchise have performed equally well, they have together contributed to evolving the rich tapestry of Lara Croft's universe. Even to this day, the Tomb Raider franchise continues to grow in myriad mediums, paving the way for other Tomb Raider movies, television shows, and even games to emerge in the near future. The gossip column is dead. With one exception. In November of 1976, right after Rupert Murdoch bought the New York Post, he tasked James Brady with executing his broad concept for a full page of short news items filed by a variety of contributors and edited with a consistent, and consistently cheeky, voice. Brady and a few stringers quickly pulled together what Brady named Page Six because that’s the page where the column initially ran. Nearly 50 years after its debut, Page Six is the only gossip column still standing among those it competed with back then. It is also the most successful original brand to emerge from the Post, as well known as the paper itself; in the past week alone, Page Six appeared in an answer on Jeopardy! and figured into a plot line on Only Murders in the Building.

The James Bond franchise has long been blossoming in the action genre and remains among the fan-favorite franchises. It is rich in many elements, from thrilling action sequences to innovative gadgets, that captivated audiences for decades. It is all thanks to Ian Fleming, the creator behind the iconic 007 spy, who laid the foundation of the vast saga.

Director Sergio Martino (All the Colors of the Dark) combines a monster reptile with an all-star EuroCult cast for The Great Alligator, one of the most outrageously entertaining Italian Jungle Carnage movies of them all, now in Uhd for the first time ever. At the opening of a tropical resort, a photographer (Claudio Cassinelli of Slave of the Cannibal God), an anthropologist (Barbara Bach of The Spy Who Loved Me) and an arrogant hotelier (Mel Ferrer of Eaten Alive!) are besieged by hostile natives, obnoxious tourists and a gargantuan river beast that intends to devour them all. A variety of different actors have portrayed 007 over the years, and the original actor to first suit up in the role is still a favorite for many fans. However, Sean Connery's casting was questioned by the creator of the James Bond character, Ian Fleming, who wasn't totally sold on the casting.
Per IndieWire, new details about the history of the franchise have been divulged in Nicholas Shakespeare's upcoming biography on Fleming, titled Ian Fleming: The Complete Man. The book goes into the casting process for the first James Bond, going back to the mid-1950s with several different actors approached. Fleming had considered a handful of names to get the role, suggesting Richard Burton would "be by far the best James Bond."

Lashana Lynch became the first woman to own the 007 title in the 2021 James Bond tentpole “No Time to Die,” but it turns out a plan to make James Bond a woman was actually pitched over 60 years prior. In Nicholas Shakespeare’s upcoming biography of Bond author Ian Fleming, titled “Ian Fleming: The Complete Man,” it’s confirmed that producer Gregory Ratoff floated the idea of casting Susan Hayward in a film adaptation of Fleming’s first Bond novel “Casino Royale.”
Shakespeare writes in the biography (via IndieWire): “Since the mid-1950s, many well-known actors had been approached [to play Bond]. Gregory Ratoff had the arresting idea of having Bond played by a woman, Susan Hayward. Ian had entertained several possibilities, from Richard Burton (‘I think that Richard Burton would be by far the best James Bond’), to James Stewart (‘I wouldn’t at all mind him as Bond if he can slightly...

Yes, a female James Bond has been over a half-century in the making.
Before Lashana Lynch briefly donned the 007 title in “No Time to Die,” the film adaptation of “Dr. No,” a woman was in talks to lead the franchise 50 years prior.
In Nicholas Shakespeare’s upcoming biography of Bond author Ian Fleming, titled “Ian Fleming: The Complete Man,” it’s revealed that original “Casino Royale” producer Gregory Ratoff had imagined a woman in the titular lead role. In fact, Oscar-winning actress Susan Hayward was in Ratoff’s mind to take the part.
Prior to “Casino Royale,” the two Bond films had floundered with “Thunderball” and “Casino Royale” receiving poor reviews, hence the proposed gender-swap.

Ninjas have never been out of vogue but between last year’s Turtles animated feature “Mutant Mayhem” and the recently-released Netflix series “House of Ninjas,” it’s fair to say they’re having a moment.
Not that your average “Ninjago” fan (average age 6-8) would care about whether or not ninjas are in vogue. Since launching simultaneously as a show and product 13 years ago, the Lego-originated IP has spawned 16 seasons, 235 episodes, a 2017 feature film starring Jackie Chan, theme park attractions and, of course, plenty of toys.
In 2023 “Ninjago” was semi-rebooted under a fresh title “Ninjago: Dragons Rising,” which introduced new characters and story arcs. In part the change came about because the “Ninjago” universe was so vast there was no easy access point for a new generation of kids. “There’s so much material, it’s our longest running show,” says Asa Tait, head of production at Lego’s...

Sydney Sweeney played the role of Julia Cornwall, aka Spider-Woman, in the latest film from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, Madame Web. After four weeks of nothing but “Weird Sex” films, including David Cronenberg’s “the medium is the message” Videodrome, Andrzej Żuławski’s tentacle divorce film Possession, Kevin Smith’s “creature feature” Tusk, and Mike Nichols’ genre mixing Wolf, Trace and I are venturing into more subdued territory with Robert Wise‘s 1963 black and white classic, The Haunting.
In the film, sexually repressed Nell (Julie Harris) escapes from her sheltered life when she receives an invitation by Dr. Markway (Richard Johnson) to stay at the infamous Hill House. She’s joined by telepath and explicit lesbian Theo (Claire Bloom), as well as disbeliever Luke (Russ Tamblyn) for a scientific experiment to confirm the existence of the supernatural.
But, as the opening voice over tells us, Hill House is evil and it will stop at nothing to ensure Nell, its next victim, sticks around the house forever.

The Coen brothers’ quirky cult classic The Big Lebowski has one of the directing duo’s best soundtracks, featuring songs from an eclectic mix of artists. This offbeat take on the film noir revolves around Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski, a zen slacker whose carefree existence is disrupted by a case of mistaken identity and a convoluted kidnapping plot that may or may not have been faked. The soundtrack full of breezy blues tunes and chill rock ‘n’ roll hits is a big part of the relaxed, easygoing mood of the Coens’ uniquely zany neo-noir.
While it received mixed reviews upon its release and initially bombed at the box office (via Collider), today The Big Lebowski is considered a comedy masterpiece, with a widespread cult following and even a religion in its name. This is one of the rare movie soundtracks in which the main character comments on how much he likes the music being played.

The Manson Brothers Show is hosted by the writers/stars of the horror comedy The Manson Brothers Midnight Zombie Massacre – Chris Margetis (Stone Manson) and Mike Carey (Skull Manson) – so it seems very fitting that they’re getting the new year started with a discussion of a zombie movie. A movie that is simply called Zombie. It’s director Lucio Fulci‘s 1979 flesh-eating classic, which you can watch at This Link… and to find out what the Manson Brothers think of it, check out the video embedded above!
Directed by Lucio Fulci from a screenplay written by Elisa Briganti and Dardano Sacchetti, Zombie has the following synopsis: Tisa Farrow investigates the disappearance of her father after his boat is found abandoned, in New York Harbor. With the help of a reporter, Ian McCulloch, their search leads to the small Caribbean island of Matool, where a strange disease has turned the inhabitants into blood-thirsty zombies.

As discussed when thumbing through IndieWire’s favorite horror scores earlier this month, much of the work of horror filmmaking is about giving fear a shape. Horror movies imbue the world we know with a malevolent power, bringing out the threat of violence we suspect is always lurking just below the surface. The home is a particularly potent setting for such a transformation, and while there are a lot of different methods for making a moviegoer question the safety of their supposed haven, one of the most dependable is a good old fashioned haunting. Looking at horror movies from across the decades, we can see patterns of production design, composition and lighting, special effects, and sonic choices that give haunted houses their ghostly and/or ghastly strength. We’ve selected six essential films exhibiting the key building blocks the best filmmakers use to construct the sinister shadows and otherworldly presences...

Hello, dear readers! We’re back with a brand-new batch of horror and sci-fi home media releases that will be out this Tuesday. One of my favorite films of 2021, Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix Resurrections is being released on various formats this week, and two other great 2021 releases—Agnes and Silent—are headed to both Blu-ray and DVD as well. Dario Argento’s Phenomena is getting the 4K treatment courtesy of the fine fiends over at Synapse Films, and Full Moon is showing some love to a pair of cult films—Island of the Fishmen and Mansion of the Doomed—that fans will undoubtedly want to check out.
Other genre home media releases for March 8th include Monster From Green Hell: Special Edition, 13 Fanboy, The Legend of La Llorona, Video Psycho, Night of Doom, and the final season of The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

Quentin Tarantino was at the Rome Film Festival last night to receive a lifetime achievement award from the festival and Italian horror legend Dario Argento.
During a wide-ranging on-stage talk about his career with fest head Antonio Monda, Tarantino discussed his influences, behind-the-scenes anecdotes from his movies and his appreciation for Italian cinema.
At one point, Tarantino was asked whether he would consider making a movie in Italy, specifically at Rome’s famous Cinecitta Studios, site of classic movies including Ben-Hur, Cleopatra, La Dolce Vita and more recently, The English Patient.
The American filmmaker responded enthusiastically: “I would love that. I know my wife would love that. That would be special and wonderful, especially to shoot at Cinecitta. I need to come up with the right story.”
About Italian films of the 70s and 80s, the Pulp Fiction and Django director said: “I was lucky enough to come of age in the 70s.

Quentin Tarantino says he has “no idea” what his next film will be. Could it be “Kill Bill 3”?
“Why not?” the director said when pressed on this burning issue on Tuesday at the Rome Film Festival, where he received a lifetime achievement award from Italian horror maestro Dario Argento.
But Tarantino’s also got other projects on the horizon. They include a film criticism book and possibly a TV series, as Tarantino told talk show host Fabio Fazio, of Italian state broadcaster Rai, on Sunday, before adding: “But first I want to make a comedy.”
Comedy seems to be on Tarantino’s mind. During an onstage conversation with Rome fest chief Antonio Monda, he described an unspecified project that sounded very funny.

There’s no denying that William Shakespeare is one of the most well-known and widely respected literary figures in history: a fountainhead for so much of storytelling to follow. His works from the late 1500s are still relevant today, and several of his plays have been adapted into films. The latest of which, “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” will arrive in theaters on Christmas Day, and on Apple TV+ on January 14, 2022.
Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand star in the spare, Dreyer-esque black-and-white film directed by Joel Coen. If you’re not familiar with the story, Macbeth is met by three witches who reveal great fortunes for his future. Once these fortunes begin to come true,...

I've worked remotely for more than 15 years, so the transition to pandemic life wasn't as jarring as it was for some, but even I wasn't mentally prepared for will likely be 2+ years of us being in lockdown. It's been a real struggle to watch anything that's super serious (I'm still waiting to see Relic!), and I've turned to some of my favorites as horror movie comfort food, including... The Monster Club!
Those who have listened to our Corpse Club podcast over the years know that this has been a favorite of mine for quite some time now. It's easily the movie I've watched the most in the last ten years and no other movie comes close, but it isn't nostalgia driving my interest in re-watching this. I didn't see the movie until maybe 10-15 years ago, but thanks to the Code Red Blu-ray release, it's been a regular watch ever since.

In Showtime’s new docuseries “Gossip” a recording of Donald Trump pretending to be his own publicist is played; a story about Tom Cruise’s front teeth falling out during a dinner with former New York Post editor-in-chief Col Allen is told; and 91-year-old Cindy Adams defends her past and present friendships with Roy Cohn, Imelda Marcos, John Gotti, Gen. Manuel Noriega and, of course, Trump.
But beyond salacious Page Six stories and Adams’ questionable friendships, “Gossip,” is at its core an examination of power and how Rupert Murdoch fundamentally shifted the foundation of the news industry via the New York Post and its tabloid journalism.
The four-part docuseries explores how New York City’s most prominent gossip columnists – Liz Smith, George Rush, Richard Johnson and Adams – built their careers and used their power.

The fifth annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards announced the 2020 winners Monday morning, honoring “Dick Johnson Is Dead” for best documentary feature as well as the film’s Kirsten Johnson for best director.
The film focuses on Richard Johnson, the director’s father, who suffers from dementia and imagines different ways in which he could die with a darkly comedic tone. The film premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and won the special jury award for innovation in non-fiction storytelling.
“My Octopus Teacher” took home two awards for best cinematography and best science/nature documentary.
Like most award shows this year, the Critics Choice Doc Awards had to go virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“We couldn’t be more excited about being able to celebrate such a diverse group of films and filmmakers and subjects this year of all years, on the fifth occasion of the CCDAs, and with 2020 being what it is,...

The first entry in the greatest tentpole series of all time, seven of which starred Sean Connery in the role that made him an international star. Amazingly, author Ian Fleming wanted composer-actor Hoagy Carmichael to play his licensed-to-kill Agent 007. The then-groundbreaking amorality of the concept led Patrick McGoohan to turn down the role, as did Richard Johnson (who later played in two Bond-like Bulldog Drummond films) and Roger Moore, who later replaced Connery as Bond.

An unconventional Oscar contender for Best Documentary Feature premiered on Netflix on October 2: “Dick Johnson is Dead,” in which filmmaker Kirsten Johnson directs her father, retired clinical psychologist Richard Johnson, in a series of death enactments as a means of coping with his actual impending death. I shaved off my lockdown beard last night. All sorts of thoughts should have been running through my head: what does this beard represent, grown as it was throughout the most seismic global event of the century, and is my shaving it off a psychological means of reclaiming myself? Something like that?
Actually, I was thinking how much this felt like the scene in Die Another Day when a straggle-bearded James Bond, fresh from fourteen months of torture and captivity, strolls into a luxury hotel in Hong Kong, asks for his usual suite and promptly de-Bee-Gees himself. I even hummed the theme song as I shaved, which is harder than it sounds.
Such golden moments as these, spun from nearly sixty years of Bond adventures, have become part of the fabric of our lives. Is it even possible to put on a dinner suit and bow tie without making a Bond quip to the mirror?...

‘Mission impossible’ escapism about high-stakes wartime sabotage looks at an authentic, dramatic episode of WW2 — the onslaught of futuristic V-Weapons on London — and then veers into fictional fantasy (think big explosions). George Peppard toughs it out to get free of his MGM contract. Lili Palmer and Barbara Rütting do the heavy lifting, while Sophia Loren is in as a glamorous sidebar. Weirdly, the movie all but lionizes the Germans that develop, test and fire the V-Weapon rockets at England … exaggerating their scientific progress and giving them a strange kind of ‘Right Stuff.’

Skills to Film aims to tackle industry skills shortages.
ScreenSkills, the training body for the UK creative industries, is collaborating with Pinewood Studios to launch Skills to Film, an initiative to tackle skills shortages identified in the UK industry.
The programme will offer people living or working near Pinewood in Buckinghamshire, information on how to transfer their skills to roles in film production. It will focus on five production specialisms: art, locations, costume, construction and accounts.
Areas outside of the industry from which the initiative will look to attract candidates include carpentry, plastering, design, sewing and fitting, finance management, marshalling and logistics.

As we get ready to close out the month of November, that means we have one last batch of horror and sci-fi home media releases on the docket before we get into December. Scream Factory is keeping busy with not only their killer box set of The Critters Collection, but they’re also showing Munchie and Munchies some love this week as well. Blue Underground is doing the dark lord’s work with their brand new Blu-ray for Lucio Fulci’s Zombie (even giving fans three cover art versions to choose from), and as far as recent films go, both Searching and The Little Stranger come home on Tuesday, too.
Other notable releases for November 27th include Screams of the Night, Cold Ground, Brutality, Last American Horror Show, and At First Light.
