‘Power’ Franchise Alum Mark Feuerstein To Reunite With Courtney A. Kemp On ‘Nemesis’
Image
Exclusive: Mark Feuerstein has joined the cast of Courtney A. Kemp and Tani Marole’s new Netflix series, Nemesis, in a recurring role.

He will not return as Steven Ott from the Power franchise, which Kemp created; instead, he will play Sam Morrow, a high-powered attorney and total shark willing to toe the ethical line in the name of protecting his clients. Steven and Sam may not be the same guy, but they certainly have some things in common.

Feuerstein is the second Power star to join Nemesis, following Shane Johnson’s casting in April. It’s as yet unknown if Johnson and Feuerstein may share any scenes.

Nemesis is the story of two men on either side of the law, the tale of what happens when an unstoppable force, expert criminal Coltrane Wilder (Y’lan Noel), meets an immovable object, brilliant police detective Isaiah Stiles (Matthew Law...

Here’s an indie horror film that was filmed entirely on the island of Oahu. Ordinarily the center of big-budget productions like Lost or Jurassic Park, you might be interested to know the Island State has its own thriving indie cinema scene. Dark Star Pictures is distributing Decade Of The Dead, which launches today on VOD. The zombie apocalypse hit ten years ago, and Rachel, Tweeter, and Ben have just barely hung on. They think they’ve finally reached sanctuary when they come across a secluded tropical island — surely the undead haven’t infected this place, right? Wrong…they soon discover the island is home to a deadly cult that worships zombies and follows in their practices (meaning they eat people). They should just get out of there, but when Rachel finds her sister alive and unwell as a High Priestess of the cult, things get complicated. Decade of the Dead stars Sean Patrick Thomas,...

Why Power Book V Was Canceled, Explained
Image
Power Book V: Influence was canceled by Starz due to the network's shift towards producing more female-driven content, despite the popularity of the Power franchise. The cancellation may also be attributed to the conclusion of Rashad Tate's character arc in Power Book II: Ghost, making Power Book V unnecessary. Fans are left wondering about the future of the Power franchise, with rumors of a potential London-set spin-off, although no official announcements have been made.

In August 2022, fans of the popular Starz crime drama Power were shocked to learn that the network had suddenly canceled Power Book V: Influence. The announcement was made by the newly appointed president of original programming, Kathryn Busby, who informed Variety that the fifth Power series will not be moving forward. At the time, Busby suggested the network was focusing on more female-driven content, leaving Power Book V: Influence with little room on the Starz production...

Why Audiences Consider Power Book II: Ghost The Weakest Of The Series
Image
"Power Book II: Ghost" is considered the weakest series in the "Power" universe, largely due to its misleading title and the absence of the beloved character Ghost. The absence of Ghost, a fan-favorite character known for his likability and embodiment of power, is a significant disappointment for viewers. The main character, Tariq St. Patrick, is not as compelling as his father, Ghost, contributing to the less positive reception of "Power Book II: Ghost" compared to other shows in the franchise.

Power Book II: Ghost is the second crime drama television series set in the Power universe on Starz, and many consider it the worst one out of the four chapters in the franchise. The spinoff premiered on September 6, 2020, a few months following the Power series finale, and is a direct sequel to the first show. Even though the second spinoff is well-regarded, every series in the Power universe is. As a result,...

Power Book II: Ghost Season 4: Plot, Cast, Release Date, and Everything Else We Know
Image
Power Book II: Ghost, a spinoff of the crime drama series Power, made its debut back in 2020. The series had been extremely successful and a hit among viewers. Having run for three seasons, the series follows the character of Tariq St. Patrick, the son of James 'Ghost' Patrick from Power. The spinoff sees Tariq navigate his life, attempting to leave the criminal underworld for good while balancing both his father's legacy and family. However, Tariq's mission to go legitimate is not as easy as he thinks. His family's legacy and the number of enemies they had acquired over the years become binds that Tariq struggles to get out of.

Speaking of the success of the series, Starz renewed Power Book II: Ghost for its fourth season back in January 2023. The renewal announcement came even before the premiere of the show's third season. The new season is being executive produced by Brett Mahoney.

Omari Hardwick in Power (2014)
Power Book II: Ghost's Shane Johnson on Complexities of Cooper Saxe & Devoted Power Fans
Omari Hardwick in Power (2014)
The curtain is finally closed on one, Cooper Saxe.

Saxe has been here since the beginning, fighting the good fight, as he antagonized Angela and sought to get the drug dealers and murderers off the streets.

From Power to Power Book II: Ghost, Saxe has been much maligned as a thorn in many characters' sides. However, his shocking death at the end of Power Book II: Ghost Season 3 Episode 8 will reverberate throughout the rest of the season.

Shane Johnson is a gem, and talking to the gifted actor was a great pleasure. He has such a unique and passionate perspective about Saxe, and we were lucky to speak with him about what led to Cooper's demise and his experience in the Power Universe.

Saxe has been evading death for a very long time now. Why do you think his luck finally ran out? And how do you think he...

"Power Book II"'s Shane Johnson Says He Knew Cooper Saxe "Wasn't Going to Survive Forever"
Image
If there's one thing "Power Book II: Ghost" has proven in season three, it's that nobody's safe - not even original characters who survived the spinoff's parent series. In a rather shocking and completely unexpected turn of events, the Starz series has done away with a character that viewers have been waiting almost a decade to see meet his downfall: Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson).

For years, Saxe has miraculously figured out ways to escape a lot of close calls - including almost getting strangled to death by Ghost (Omari Hardwick) and Tommy (Joseph Sikora) in "Power" - but his conniving ways have finally caught up to him in a fatal conclusion, as with most "Power" antagonists.

After six seasons of "Power" and three installments of "Power Book II," it's nearly impossible to list all the dirt Saxe has done through the years. In the original series, his relentless hunt to...

"Power Book II"'s Showrunner Reveals Why Season 3’s Fifth Episode Is a "True Turning Point"
Image
Dark secrets have been controlling all the action so far in "Power Book II: Ghost" season three, but episode five marks what showrunner Brett Mahoney calls the "true turning point" that's put everyone on notice.

The episode, titled "No More Second Chances," picks up after the shooting death of Detective Kevin Whitman (Jeff Hephner) in Monet's (Mary J. Blige) house, with the feds snooping around on suspicion that her self-defense excuse is really a murder cover-up. There's also the fact that Monet has finally figured out who killed her son Zeke: her husband, Lorenzo (Berto Colón). Then, on the other side of "Power Book II," Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), his girlfriend, Effie (Alix Lapri), and partner-in-crime, Brayden (Gianni Paolo), get roped into a mess overseas during their business trip to Italy, as the latter gets kidnapped while on a mission for their new drug connect, Noma (Caroline Chikezie).

Fans Are Wondering Why Redman Is Absent in "Power Book II: Ghost" Season 3
Image
"Power Book II: Ghost" is known for throwing viewers a curveball (or several) now and then, and season three, which premiered on March 17, is no exception. So far, new characters have been introduced, while one has reappeared after being seemingly killed off. But viewers are saddened to see that one familiar face hasn't returned for the new season.

Season two of the hit Starz drama introduced defense attorney Davis MacLean's (Method Man) brother, Theo Rollins, who's in prison for taking the fall for a manslaughter charge for the crooked lawyer. That season, Theo was played by Redman, the rap icon and well-known Method Man collaborator.

Method Man - who famously starred with Redman in 2001's "How High" and collaborated with him on the "Blackout!" album series - reflected on his reunion with Redman in "Power Book II: Ghost" in a recent interview with Vibe Magazine, crediting "Power" creator and former...

‘Power Book II’ Sets Opening Weekend Ratings Record for Starz
Image
The third season premiere of Power Book II: Ghost drew the biggest opening weekend audience ever for a Starz series, the premium cable outlet says.

The show’s March 17 debut brought in 5.8 million viewers across all platforms over its first three days, according to Nielsen and internal data. That makes it the biggest premiere weekend ever for a Starz original series.

Though Starz didn’t break down viewers by platform, based on viewing patterns for other premium series, a large majority of the audience likely streamed the Ghost premiere. The show’s on-air premiere brought in 362,000 viewers, per Nielsen — just 6 percent of the three-day total. That’s in keeping with shows like HBO’s Euphoria, Showtime’s Yellowjackets, and Starz’s own P-Valley, whose initial, on-air viewership makes up just a small fraction of the total.

The 5.8 million viewers also includes multiple replays on the Starz cable channel over the weekend.

‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 3 Premiere Smashes Debut Weekend Viewing Record For Starz
Image
Season 3 of Power Book II: Ghost has smashed viewership records for Starz.

The premiere episode delivered 5.8M multi-platform viewers in its first three days after it debuted on March 17, which the network says is its biggest premiere weekend ever. That’s up quite significantly from the 362,000 viewers that tuned in to the episode’s initial live telecast.

Weekend multi-platform viewership for the Season 3 debut was also up about 30% from the Season 2 premiere in November 2021. Interestingly, the Season 2 premiere drew 518,000 for its live broadcast, which was on a Sunday. Season 2 averaged a little over half a million live viewers per episode.

Prior to the launch of Season 3, Starz signaled its confidence in the series with an early renewal for a fourth installment. Season 4 is currently in production in New York.

Season 3 took off in dramatic form with brand new twists, turns, and murder as Tariq, Brayden, and the Tejada family are grieving the death of Zeke,...

5 Deep Cut Winter Horror Movies You Maybe Haven’t Seen
Image
No genre is as prolific as horror, so it’s understandable that movies fall through the cracks all the time. That is where this new recurring column, Deep Cuts, comes in. The first edition of this column will look at horror movies featuring wintry settings. It may not feel or look like winter wherever you are right now, but somewhere it’s cold. And with a frosty backdrop, the five winter horror movies here feel more bleak than usual.
