Philly Justice: Amy Poehler, Kathryn Hahn & Adam Scott Made the Best ’90s Courtroom Drama That Never Existed
Image
If Philly Justice sounds like a forgotten courtroom drama from 1997 that aired right after Ally McBeal, you’re not losing your mind. It looks the part. It sounds the part. But it’s not a long-lost show from the late ’90s. In fact, it never actually existed.

Philly Justice is a completely fake ’90s legal drama lovingly crafted by Amy Poehler, Kathryn Hahn, Adam Scott, and a few more familiar faces from the Parks and Recreation universe.

What started as a running joke on set turned into a fully committed production, complete with dramatic walk-ins, romantic subplots, rival attorneys, dead-serious monologues, and overacted objections.

It’s the Threat Level Midnight of the Parks & Rec universe, only this time it wasn’t just written into an episode. They actually made it! Sets were built. Costumes were discussed. Lines were memorized. But you won’t find it on your streaming platform,...

Can Philanthropy Make Up for Trump’s Foreign Aid Pullback?
Image
The international aid community, which includes many top Hollywood donors, has been reeling since the White House effectively eviscerated Usaid at the start of Donald Trump’s second presidential term in January. After all, since World War II, America has been leading and shaping modern global policies and standards in humanitarian assistance.

The gutting cuts have shuttered the government agency and ended much of its critical fieldwork. Beyond relieving societal crises among the world’s most vulnerable populations, the multibillion-dollar programs also sought to reduce emergent threats from developing countries (such as infectious disease outbreaks) and act as a soft-power counterweight against geopolitical rivals including China and Russia. Now this expansive portfolio of challenges, ranging from health and education to economic development and disaster relief, is left to a cluster of nonprofit organizations whose own budgets have often been deeply hampered by the same forced austerity enacted by the Elon Musk...

Judd Apatow Praises Viral ‘Girls’ Scene Amid ‘Too Much’ Buzz: Andrew Rannells Is a ‘Remarkable’ Actor
Image
“Girls” always seems to surge back into the cultural conversation, particularly since Lena Dunham’s new series “Too Much” premiered on Netflix earlier this month. In the near-decade since “Girls” aired its HBO finale, its cast has gone on to become film and TV stalwarts. Among the most prolific, of course, is Andrew Rannells — who appeared with Dunham on “Too Much,” giving fans the Hannah and Elijah reunion they were waiting for.

“Too Much” might’ve been the latest project pairing Dunham and Rannells, but it was far from the first. Actually, according to none other than Judd Apatow — “Girls” executive producer (among other things) — we now know exactly what the first scene they shot together was… and it’s a biggie.

In the scene — from way back in 2012 — Hannah and Elijah, her former college boyfriend, have a contentious (and hilarious) conversation about Elijah’s sexuality, focusing on how much...

10 Years Later and We Still Miss These 20 Things About ‘Parks and Recreation’
Image
Can you believe it’s been ten years since we said goodbye to the Parks Department of Pawnee, Indiana? Yes, we know, it feels like just yesterday we were watching Leslie Knope frantically organize another town hall meeting or seeing Ron Swanson grimace at the mention of vegetables.

When Parks and Recreation wrapped up its seven-season run in February 2015, it left behind this incredible legacy of pure joy, heart, and enough quotable moments to fill a Pawnee time capsule. Honestly, in today’s world, where everything feels a bit chaotic, rewatching this show is like getting a warm hug.

So let’s take a nostalgic trip back to the place where waffles were a food group and government work was actually, dare we say it, fun?

Not a glitch! Inside the massive ‘Black Mirror’ Emmys comeback
Image
If you correctly predicted that Season 7 of Black Mirror would receive 10 Emmy nominations, you might be living on another planet ... or in a computer simulation ... or maybe both.

Netflix's long-running science-fiction anthology series had fallen into an awards rut, with Season 6 only garnering three noms in 2024, and Season 5 earning just a single bid in 2020. That's a far cry from the halcyon days of 2017-19, when it won eight Emmy Awards. Black Mirror's impressive showing this week can rightly be called an Emmys comeback, considering that 10 nominations is more than any of its prior seasons or stand-alone movies.

Blame the name game

In recent years, it's likely that category confusion led to Television Academy members struggling to properly determine where Black Mirror was eligible, which seemed to change on a season-to-season basis. For the 2025 Emmys and 2024 Emmys, Black Mirror was eligible in Best Limited or Anthology Series, a category...

2025 Emmy Nominations: 5 Key Takeaways About ‘The Studio,’ Late Night TV, and More
Image
The 2025 Primetime Emmy nominations have finally arrived in spite of another set of what feels like annual challenges to the television industry. As if a global pandemic was not Earth-shattering enough, in recent years television has also had to navigate labor strikes, and devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, leading some major Emmy contenders to go as much as three years between seasons.

But for many of the people behind the most beloved TV shows of the current moment, all that hard work and perseverance has paid off in the form of recognition from their peers in the Television Academy. Though one could argue that there are clear winners and losers, this round of Emmy nominations saw many networks and studios still get a piece of the pie.

Below we cover five key takeaways from the 2025 Emmy nominations, touching on snubs, surprises, and TV series that are on track to become awards season staples.

The Penguin's Colin Farrell Nominated For Outstanding Lead Actor As Show Picks Up 24 Nominations
Image
The nominees for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and the HBO limited series The Penguin earned a total of 24 Emmy nominations for the 2025 awards.

While a substantial amount of the 24 come from the technical and craft categories, the major awards the show is up for includes a top-tier nomination for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

The show's cast received major acclaim as well, with Colin Farrell nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor and Cristin Milioti for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Additionally, Deirdre O'Connell was honored with a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress.

Cristin Milioti Nabs First Emmy Nomination for ‘The Penguin’: ‘I’m Down for the Ride’
Image
Cristin Milioti is no new face in television.

Whether she caught your eye in “Black Mirror,” “How I Met Your Mother,” way back on “The Sopranos” in her first TV role, or during that killer “30 Rock” cameo, her work always stands out in already impressive projects, right down to her Emmy-nominated turn in “The Penguin.”

Milioti’s performance earned her a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, alongside Cate Blanchett for “Disclaimer,” Michelle Williams for “Dying for Sex,” Rashida Jones for “Black Mirror,” and Meghann Fahy for “Sirens.” On the heels of Tuesday’s nomination announcement, IndieWire caught up with the artist formerly known as Sofia Falcone (it’s Gigante now!) about the recognition, revisiting the character, and suiting back up for “Black Mirror” Season 7.

The following interview has been edited and condensed for length and clarity.

Emmy Noms Analysis: Reading Between the Lines of Tuesday’s Announcement
Image
On one level, the biggest surprise about Tuesday morning’s Emmy nominations was how unsurprising they were — indeed, my final pre-noms forecast correctly projected, of the eventual nominees for best series, seven of eight dramas, eight of eight comedies and five of five limited/anthology series. But when you put them under a microscope, I think they tell an interesting story about today’s TV landscape.

HBO/HBO Max collected a platforms-leading and company-best 142 noms. Meanwhile, the biggest hauls for individual shows all traced back to Apple TV+ (which had its best year yet with 81 overall noms) and HBO/HBO Max, with the leaderboard topped by Apple’s sophomore drama Severance (27, up from 14 for its prior season), HBO’s limited series The Penguin (24), Apple’s rookie comedy The Studio (23, matching the comedy series record set last year by FX’s The Bear), the third installment of HBO’s drama franchise...

Emmy Awards 2025: Severance, The Studio, And The Penguin Lead 77th Emmys Nominations
Image
It's about that time again, people. The Oscars are over, the BAFTAs are behind us, and the Golden Globes were certainly a thing that happened, so all eyes are now firmly locked on the 2025 Emmy Awards. And this afternoon, Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song took to the stage of the Wolf Theatre in the Saban Media Centre to unveil the nominees for this year's upcoming 77th Emmys. And after what has been a pretty exceptional past twelve months in the world of television, Apple TV+'s Severance finds itself in(nie) pole position. Dan Erickson's water cooler dominating sci-fi series leads the pack so far with a staggering 27 nominations, while HBO's The Penguin and Apple's own The Studio are nipping at its heels with a heady 24 and 23 nods of their own respectively.

Severance heads up a sure-to-be hotly contested Outstanding Drama Series field, where it'll face off against Andor,...

The nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards are finally out, and it’s shaping up to be one of the toughest races in recent years. According to DiscussingFilm, shows like The Bear, Severance, The White Lotus, and The Pitt are grabbing the most attention after scoring multiple nominations across major categories. This year’s Emmys will happen on September 14, 2025, live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. You can catch it on CBS and Paramount+.

In the drama world, it’s a huge year for HBO’s The White Lotus, which picked up nominations in almost every acting category. Big names like Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, and Sam Rockwell are all in the supporting actor race thanks to the show. Even supporting actresses like Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, and Natasha Rothwell are on the list. With Mike White once again nominated for directing and writing, The White Lotus could easily win big.

Severance, The Penguin and The Last of Us dominate the 2025 Emmy nominations
Image
The time has come to dive into the list of 2025 Emmy Nominations, where, as luck would have it, some of the most nominated shows are from the science fiction and fantasy genres. What may be more surprising is that HBO has beaten Netflix for the most Emmy Nominations, with a total of 142, thanks to hit shows such as The White Lotus, The Penguin and The Last of Us. That's the most nominations the network has ever received.

Speaking of The Last of Us, it joins the ranks of most nominated shows alongside Severance (Apple TV+), Black Mirror (Netflix), Andor (Disney+), What We Do In The Shadows (FX), and The Boys (Prime Video). Severance, The Penguin, The Last of Us, Andor and Black Mirror are amongst the most-nominated shows.

Tell me, truthfully, are we really that surprised? Let's get into the details, shall we?

‘The Penguin’ marches into Emmys with 24 nominations: Here’s every category it landed — and where it slipped
Image
The Penguin is waddling its way all the way to the Emmys. The HBO limited series racked up 24 Emmy nominations on Tuesday, including Best Limited Series and Best Movie/Limited Actor for Colin Farrell.

Here are the categories The Batman spin-off landed in — and the ones it missed.

Best Limited Series: Nominated

Throughout the winter awards circuit, The Penguin faced tough competition from Netflix's breakout hit Baby Reindeer, which swept the top prizes at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards after winning last year’s Emmy for Best Limited Series. However, the 2025 Emmys race has a fresh new batch of competitors. The Penguin is up against a trio of Netflix entries — Adolescence, Black Mirror, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story — as well as FX's Dying for Sex.

The 2025 Primetime Emmy nominations have been announced, and many fan favorites, returning series, and brand-new efforts have been recognized by the Television Academy. 10 Sitcom Sidekicks Who Are More Responsible Than the Main Character
Image
The real grown-ups in sitcoms aren’t always the leads. While the Tom and Jerrys of the world flail through chaos, it’s the sidekicks holding it down, quietly keeping things functional.

From Parks and Rec’s ever-prepared Ron Swanson to New Girl’s Winston Bishop, these sidekicks are often the only ones doing their jobs. As the main characters spiral, it’s these supporting legends who bring the logic, the loyalty, and occasionally… the lease.

Sidekicks shine brightest in sitcoms, where the chaos is constant and responsibility is rare. Even with fewer lines or screen time, they steal the show with their grit and grounded presence. So, while the leads fumble through the punchlines, give it up for the real MVPs, the sidekicks who actually get things done.

Here are 10 sitcom sidekicks who are more responsible than the main character.

Rashida Jones' Canceled Apple TV+ Show Could Have Been A Sci-Fi Classic
Image
Rashida Jones is one of those actors who turn up just about everywhere. She played Louisa Fenn on the Fox high school faculty drama "Boston Public," she was lawyer Marylin Delpy in David Fincher's "The Social Network", and her character Ann Perkins was an important part of the NBC hit sitcom "Parks and Recreation." She's also been known to work on sci-fi projects as of late, appearing in the "Black Mirror" season 7 opener ("Common People") as Amanda and playing the decoy protagonist Allison Becker in "Silo," one of the best sci-fi shows on Apple TV+.

As it happens, however, these aren't Jones' only recent science-fiction endeavors. Lena Dunham is back with ‘Good Sex,’ a star-studded rom-com movie
Image
Natalie Portman stars as a couples’ therapist reentering the dating scene at 40.

“Too Much” just dropped all 10 episodes on Thursday, July 10, but there’s more Lena Dunham on the way with her upcoming Netflix rom-com “Good Sex.” Rom-coms are my favorite genre, so I’m definitely planning to watch all of it — once I get my ducks in a row. Dunham is back in New York (where it all started with “Girls”) and this new film stars Natalie Portman as a couples’ therapist reentering the dating scene after a failed long-term relationship. With a cast that includes Mark Ruffalo, Rashida Jones, and Meg Ryan, “Good Sex” already feels like a must-watch. Here’s everything you need to know about “Good Sex” before it premieres on Netflix.

Everything you need to know about ‘Good Sex’:

When does the movie drop?

‘Adolescence,’ ‘Penguin,’ ‘Black Mirror,’ ‘Dying for Sex’: Here are the front-runners, potential spoilers, and long shots for Best Limited/Movie Writing Emmy nominations
Image
Who will have the write stuff at the Emmys? When it comes to Best Limited Series/Movie Writing, it becomes a bit of a numbers game.

With 71 submissions, this year's Best Limited Series/Movie Writing category will have just five finalists when the nominations are announced Tuesday. This is only the second time since the expansion to the popular vote that this category will result in five nominees; the first since 2020. Last year, for example, there were six nominees, with Baby Reindeer ultimately prevailing.

In the limited-series race, there are several shows with writers who scripted all their episodes and thus must enter their entire series: Adolescence by Jack Thorne and star Stephen Graham, Disclaimer by Alfonso Cuarón, and Dope Thief by Peter Craig. With Adolescence being the front-runner to win Best Limited since its premiere, the Netflix psychological crime drama is a lock for a writing bid. The other two,...

Lena Dunham Is Happy for Netflix Rom-Com ‘Good Sex’ to Skip Theatrical Release: ‘I Don’t Think This Will Live or Die By That’
Image
Lena Dunham isn’t just making a comeback with her Megan Stalter-starring Netflix romantic comedy series “Too Much” — she also has a movie she wrote and is directing set to premiere on the platform, and starring Oscar-winner Natalie Portman. In fact, it would appear that Netflix really wanted “Good Sex,” also a rom-com which co-stars genre stalwart Meg Ryan, Mark Ruffalo, and Rashida Jones. After all, the streamer paid a reported $55 million for it.

Dunham, though, isn’t precious about the movie forgoing a theatrical release to go straight to the platform. To her, that’s someone else’s battle.

“I really just want people to sit on a couch with their moms and their besties and lean in,” she said in an interview with Variety. “I love watching other filmmakers fight for the theatrical-release element — but I don’t think this will live or die by that.”

Lena Dunham Details Possible ‘Girls’ Revival Plot: ‘I Would Always’ Work with That Cast Again
Image
Could Lena Dunham bring “Girls” into the 2020s? The series creator and recent “Too Much” showrunner told Variety that she is still open to the possibility of revisiting the beloved HBO show. “Girls” concluded in 2017 after six seasons, and starred Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, and Zosia Mamet as a millennial friend group in Brooklyn.

While Dunham has teased a possible “Girls” reboot down the line for years and has been in talks with HBO about bringing the show back, she is now detailing what that revival would entail.

“If we had something to say that was really specific and it was a moment in their lives where we felt like revisiting it — like millennial women becoming mothers or stepping into menopause or going to live at old-age homes — I would always want to work with those people again,” Dunham said.

And Dunham has a few ideas about where the beloved characters would be specifically…...

‘Black Mirror’ Creators Charlie Brooker & Annabel Jones Exit Netflix-Owned Broke & Bones
Image
Exclusive: Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, co-creators of hit anthology series Black Mirror, have left their Netflix-owned production company Broke & Bones.

The Emmy winners have stepped down as directors of Broke & Bones, five years after founding the company and securing investment from Netflix in a first-of-its-kind deal.

Deadline first revealed the $100M agreement in 2020, which we noted at the time was structured over five years. Brooker and Jones have reached the end of this term and are leaving.

Netflix declined to comment.

Black Mirror has not been formally renewed beyond Season 7 by Netflix, but the streamer is said to be committed to the series. Brooker and Jones’ exit from Broke & Bones is unlikely to change this.

Theoretically, they could now consider working on projects for other streamers or networks, given they were exclusive to Netflix at Broke & Bones.

Why Black Mirror Avoided Casting Comedians In The Early Seasons
Image
The Netflix era of "Black Mirror" constantly makes headlines for its star-studded cast. The biggest celebrity cameo in an episode was probably Miley Cyrus' semi-meta role in season 5, but perhaps the most surprising celebrities to show up were the ones best known for being funny. Season 7 featured Rashida Jones of "Parks and Recreation" fame, Chris O'Dowd from "The It Crowd," Cristin Milioti from "How I Met Your Mother," Awkwafina from "Nora From Queens," Issa Rae from "Insecure," and so on. A show that's known for being bleak and serious is now routinely being led by actors known for their sitcom shenanigans.

It's a big shift from the early Channel 4 seasons of "Black Mirror," where the lead actors were always best known for their previous dramatic roles. Some of this change is the natural result of "Black Mirror" becoming a hit show with near limitless casting options, but part of it's...

Mission: Impossible’s Tramell Tillman Joins the Loaded Cast of One of Netflix’s Most Anticipated Films
Image
When Tramell Tillman first appeared on the entertainment scene, fans were taken aback by his art, which showcases a nuanced emotional depth that resonates deeply with the fans. Since his first major role as Seth Milchick in Severance, he has made a name for himself, where he would continue his run of bagging eerily appealing characters. This distinct trait of his has helped him to make a lasting impact on the audience, despite finding himself playing characters with limited screentime.

His most recent role as Captain Jack Bledsoe in Tom Cruise’s spy franchise, Mission: Impossible, was impeccable. Now, he looks forward to collaborating with Netflix on their upcoming rom-com film Good S*x that is filled with Hollywood heavyweights!

Rashida Jones raises the bar in ‘Black Mirror’ — and deserves an Emmy nomination for it
Image
Rashida Jones is known as a powerhouse creator in the Hollywood industry. She has acted in several iconic, Emmy-nominated series and projects, including The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Silo. This Emmy season, she wowed audiences with one of the best performances of her career in the science-fiction anthology series Black Mirror. Jones played a lead in the episode “Common People”; however, her acting in this role is anything but ordinary.

Despite this impressive body of work, Jones has never won an Emmy and has only received one nomination for producing the Netflix documentary Hot Girls Wanted in 2015. However, as a creator, Jones has reached some impressive heights. In 2018, the documentary about her father, iconic music producer Quincy Jones, titled Quincy, which she codirected with Alan Hicks, won a Grammy for Best Music Film. In 2024, her short documentary Swim Lesson was shortlisted for the Oscars.

Can Steve Carell’s ‘Mountainhead’ Performance Beat Colin Farrell or Stephen Graham? Weighing the Limited Series/TV Movie Contending Performances
Image
The limited series/TV movie race has changed drastically over the course of the Emmy window. With “The Penguin” once the main frontrunner, “Adolescence” changed the game — much like “Baby Reindeer” did last year.

In a new episode of Variety’s Award Circuit, presented by Paramount+, TV editors Michael Schneider and Emily Longeretta discuss the top contending lead and supporting actors in both limited series and TV movies at this year’s Emmy Awards.

In the lead actress race, contenders include Cristin Milioti (“The Penguin”), Cate Blanchett (“Disclaimer”), Rashida Jones (“Black Mirror”), Amanda Seyfried (“Long Bright River”), Michelle Williams (“Dying for Sex”) and Ellen Pompeo (“Good American Family”).

“She’s been in our homes for years,” Schneider notes about the positive reaction to Pompeo in the Hulu series.

And then there’s the TV movie race, which brings in Renée Zellweger for her role in “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” to the forefront.

P Diddy’s Alleged Role in Tupac’s Death: Lawsuit Claimed Diddy Offered Millions
Image
P Diddy was rumored to be involved in Tupac Shakur’s drive-by shooting in 1996 after the latter released a diss track against the hip-hop mogul. Both Diddy and the Las Vegas police department have reiterated his non-involvement in the case. However, the transcript of an interview between Detective Long and the suspect in the case, Duane “Keefe D” Davis, mentions that Diddy wanted revenge.

Davis is the uncle of Orlando Anderson, a member of the Southern Side Crips, who was the primary suspect in the case. He was never charged and was killed later in an unrelated gang shootout in 1998. Davis was arrested in September 2023 after being indicted by a grand jury for the first-degree murder of Shakur.

5 Best Adam Scott Movies & TV Shows To Watch After Severance
Image
I'm not breaking new ground when I say that Adam Scott is excellent on "Severance." This isn't a hot take; it's decidedly room-temperature. Technically, Scott plays two characters on Dan Erickson's twisted take on a "workplace comedy," even though they are the same person: Mark Scout, a miserable man who lost his wife Gemma (Dichen Lachman) in a tragic car accident, and to deal with his overwhelming grief, who takes a job at Lumon Industries that offers a procedure called "severance" that splits his consciousness into two distinct parts. When he leaves work, he's stuck being plain old Mark Scout, but at work, on the "severed" floor, he's Mark S., a willing acolyte of Lumon who has no idea that he ever had a wife, let alone lost one.

As his innie (Mark S.) and outie (Mark Scout), Scott delivers one of his very best performances; in the show's critically adored sophomore season,...

This Is What Rashida Jones Really Thinks About the Ending of Her ‘Black Mirror’ Episode
Image
From the moment Rashida Jones first watched the U.K. version of Black Mirror in 2011, she had to know more about its creator, English screenwriter Charlie Brooker.

“I muscled my way into his life,” the self-professed Black Mirror superfan says with a laugh. “I had a friend who knew him and worked with him, and I asked if I could email him, then I just cold-emailed Charlie. We were friendly for a couple of years, so when he did his first season [of Black Mirror] with Netflix, he called me to ask if I wanted to write ‘Nosedive.’ “

The episode, starring Bryce Dallas Howard, about a society in which people are rated on their every social interaction — which in turn affects their socioeconomic status — was one of the most-talked-about of season three. Audiences have had a similar response to season seven’s “Common People,” in which Jones steps in front of the camera as Amanda Waters,...

5 slots isn’t enough: More limited series deserve a chance to compete with ‘Adolescence’
Image
Four episodes, four takes, one 13-year-old discovery.

With the April premiere of Adolescence, Netflix is poised for a three-peat — for the third year in a row, the streamer has launched a limited series in the spring that has gone on to dominate the awards conversation.

Like Beef and Baby Reindeer before it, Adolescence has soared from debut to awards on unparalleled highs of widespread viewership (it’s now the #3 most watched Netflix series of all time) and critical acclaim (a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 99 percent).

The drama, which chronicles the investigation of a teenager who’s accused of murdering a classmate, immediately grabbed the No. 1 slot in Gold Derby’s predictions charts; as of this writing, stars Stephen Graham (who also cocreated and cowrote), Erin Doherty, and wunderkind teenager Owen Cooper (making his acting debut) are also at the top of their respective categories. The technical prowess of the...

The Parks And Recreation Cast Created A Fake TV Show That Sounds Perfect
Image
"Parks and Recreation" was originally envisioned as a spin-off of "The Office," but Greg Daniels and Michael Schur's political sitcom ultimately became its own beautiful thing, and the rest is history. Thanks to the series' ability to charm viewers, real people celebrate holidays like Galentine's Day and Treat Yo Self Day, proving that its cultural impact is real. Not only that, but the success of "Parks and Recreation" prepared Chris Pratt for "Guardians of the Galaxy," and the other cast members have enjoyed further success in their own right. That said, fans of the show would love to see them reunite — but don't expect to see them in a show called "Philly Justice."

If you've heard of "Philly Justice" and assumed it's a planned spin-off of "Parks and Recreation," it's because an in-joke by the cast of Daniels and Schur's sitcom has taken on a life of its own.

The 96% Rated TV Show Created by Steve Carell Is the Edgier Version of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ That No One Has Watched
Image
In the golden era of streaming, it’s easy to miss out on television gems that never really got their due. One such overlooked gem is Angie Tribeca. Created by the comedy legend Steve Carell along with his wife, Nancy Carellan, the show is an unruly parody of crime dramas. The show premiered in 2016: it starred Rashida Jones as a deadpan cop navigating an exaggerated world of clichés, crime, and chaos.

Angie Tribeca stands as one of the most critically acclaimed police drama comedies of its time- yet, surprisingly, remains immensely underwatched by the mainstream audience. While shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine have mastered the witty and warm sitcom format, Angie Tribeca dared to push boundaries with surrealism, slapstick, and satirical genius. Think of it as the grown-up, zany cousin of B99.

10 Actors Who Almost Quit Hollywood Before Their Biggest Roles
Image
One of the biggest virtues in life is to know when to quit. Eventually, you need to know when to preserve yourself and let go. It's a difficult lesson to learn, but it will serve us time and time again in life. In the same vein, another of life's biggest virtues is knowing when it's truly worth it to keep fighting the good fight. Just as you need to know when to choose yourself at times, you also need to know when to hold on.

For a myriad of our favorite actors who once were nobodies just trying to make it, they spent so many years doing the latter that the former eventually seemed like the only option. But because they didn't give up and took one more chance, fate did as well.
