Did you know Alan Tudyk created a character that was based on himself for the web? In the show, the lead character is actor Wray Nerely, who starred as a spaceship pilot on Spectrum, a canceled sci-fi series that went on to become a cult hit. Seems familiar? Tudyk based the 2015 series, Con Man, on his experiences on the abruptly canceled Firefly series.
He managed to get Nathan Fillion on board for the show that ran for two seasons and 25 episodes. Fillion also served as a producer on the show. It appeared that Tudyk used all his connections in the industry, bringing in Sean Astin, Nolan North, Tricia Helfer, Leslie Jordan, and Firefly co-star Sean Maher.

Debra Messing has an idea on how a Will & Grace reboot “could possibly work” in the potential third incarnation of the NBC sitcom.
While appearing on CBS Mornings, Messing was asked if she would participate in a new version of the show where she played interior designer Grace Adler across 11 seasons.
“I feel like the only thing that could possibly work is if in 20, 30 years, we do a Golden Girls where they’re all living in Boca [Ratón, Florida] in caftans,” Messing said on the morning show.
Messing says she could only revisit the Will & Grace universe if the characters were older and added, “anything before that … we’ve told the story.”
Will & Grace is a sitcom created by David Kohan and Max Mutchnick that launched on NBC in 1998. The show revolved around best friends Will (Eric McCormack), a lawyer who identified as gay, and Grace (Messing), an interior designer who identified as straight.

The Oscars In Memoriam tribute, set to Mozart’s “Requiem in D Minor,” began with a tribute from Morgan Freeman to his “Unforgiven” and “Under Suspicion” co-star Gene Hackman. Hackman, who was 95, was found dead last week in his Santa Fe home along with his wife, Betsy Arakawa.
“I had the pleasure of working alongside Gene on ‘Unforgiven’ and ‘Under Suspicion.’ I learned he was a generous performer and a man whose gifts elevated everyone’s work,” said Freeman. “He received two Oscars. He won the hearts of film lovers all over the world. Gene always said, ‘I don’t think about legacy, I just think people remember me as someone who tried to do good work.'”

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993-1997) was a lighthearted TV series that ran for four seasons before being canceled. It set itself apart by focusing on the relationship between Clark and Lois as opposed to Superman's many heroic exploits. Its run was unfortunately cut short, and a promised fifth season was canceled when viewership dropped after its main characters finally got together. The will-they-won't-they dynamic that had carried the show for so long that audiences and the network alike may have felt there wasn't much more story to tell.
Smallville (2001-2011) would be the next time a major network attempted to tackle a Superman-centered series. This time, with the focus shifting to a young Clark Kent and his journey to becoming Superman.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday was a bonkers sequel that took the simple masked slasher movie franchise to new heights (or new depths?). The early 90s film that attempted to end the franchise was hated by critics and very divisive with fans. However, now you can get the full story of what the creative people were thinking as director Adam Marcus recalls being a bright-eyed, fresh-faced film student who was given the keys to the kingdom and didn’t exactly know what to do with the newly purchased property from New Line Cinema. The trailer for Hearts of Darkness: The Making of The Final Friday is now here.
Marcus has spoken directly with fans as he announced that the documentary is “almost 2 hours long.” The Blu-ray edition will feature “another 2 hours of goodness that we could not fit in a theatrical feature film! Oh yeah! We’ve got...

Snubs from the annual Oscars in memoriam segment are always uncomfortable, but 2023 was an especially awkward year for the Academy. Leslie Jordan, Anne Heche, Tom Sizemore, Paul Sorvino, and more celebrities who had recently passed were excluded from the ceremony. For the late Stella Stevens — a blonde bombshell known for decades of TV and film, and who at 83 had died just one month earlier from advanced Alzheimer’s disease — facing disrespect from the industry was always routine.
“I wrote letters to the Motion Picture Academy,” said filmmaker Andrew Stevens, Stella’s only son. Black Mirror may have popularized the karmic “be careful what you ask for” angle in modern dark fantasy, but it’s far from the only show in its niche. Long before the BBC sci-fi show’s 2011 premiere, back in the 1970s, there was a drama called Fantasy Island. Like Black Mirror, the series showcased the dangers of wishful thinking. Of course, being the ‘70s, it usually lacked the same technological themes and political overtones. Now, fast-forward almost half a decade. In 2021, Fox rebooted the classic show. Now starring Roselyn Sánchez, this revived Fantasy Island tackles updated moral and ethical quandaries. It integrates modern technology into the narrative and brings its classic predecessor to life for a new audience.
It’s the perfect match for Black Mirror fans, so why does it seem so obscure? Unfortunately, the network canceled the show after two seasons. The reboot series aired its last episode on May 8, 2023. Nonetheless,...

Instantly recognizable by his short stature, Southern drawl, and giddy personality, Leslie Jordan was an American movie and TV legend and an LGBTQ+ icon. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jordan moved to Los Angeles where he began his career as an actor in the 1980s. He used his uniqueness to his advantage to land some truly iconic roles both on the big and small screens. Although Jordan appeared in many guest roles on TV episodes through the ‘80s and ‘90s, he really found his stride in the 2000s.
Jordan’s sudden death from a car crash caused by cardiac dysfunction in 2022 prompted a wave of grief from his fellow actors and artists in Hollywood. The outpouring of love for the comedian littered social media sites like X, including posts from celebrities like Jennifer Hudson and Mayim Bialik. American Horror Story has almost been running for a decade and a half. Over its run so far, the show has been host to countless celebrity cameos, some of which just appeared in a single scene or episodes, others had a mini-arc within the season. Although they might not be a main character in the grand scheme of things, it is still nice when a celebrity makes a cameo in the show, just for the sake of being recognizable and breaking up the dark and serious themes of American Horror Story.
Some celebrities who have had a cameo on the show have enjoyed their time as part of the American Horror Story universe so much that they have returned in future seasons in a starring role. Despite there being countless celebrity cameos in the show, ranging from Lady Gaga as Scathach to Leslie Jordan, there are a handful that have had a greater impact,...

American Idol judge Luke Bryan sees Leslie Jordan in contestant Reagan Mills, sparking curiosity. Reagan Mills' performance impresses judges with soulful vocals, promising an exciting competition ahead. American Idol shifts focus to quality performances over looks, embracing unique voices like Reagan's.
American Idol season 22 judge Luke Bryan is comparing one of the hopefuls in the audition process to beloved late actor Leslie Jordan, and he’s not wrong about the resemblance. American Idol has taken many forms over the years, and in its current iteration with host Ryan Seacrest and judges Luke, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie, the audition process can be intense. American Idol season 22 judge Luke Bryan is comparing one of the hopefuls in the audition process to beloved late actor Leslie Jordan, and he’s not wrong about the resemblance. Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers took the stage at the 2023 Emmys to pay tribute to their former colleague Norman Lear, in addition to other notable television figures who passed away since the previous ceremony.
Charlie Puth and The War and Treaty — comprised of Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter — performed the former’s hit 2015 song “See You Again” for the In Memoriam segment. They finished the segment with a rendition of the Friends theme song that coincided with Matthew Perry being featured as the final name in the video tribute.
In keeping with the ceremony’s theme of celebrating television reunions, Reiner and Struthers reminisced about their time together as co-stars on All in the Family, the classic CBS sitcom that debuted in 1971 and ran for nine seasons.

Network executives are not obligated to pick up a show even after millions of dollars have been spent on production costs. Changes in leadership or real-world events can lead to the cancelation of a TV show, despite initial hopes and resources invested. Sometimes shows are canceled after a pilot episode or even an entire season is filmed, resulting in wasted resources and unconfirmed costs in the millions.
Some shows are canceled before they even air, but not before they have racked up millions of dollars in production costs. There are wild stories about the millions major networks like HBO and Netflix spent on a show they had high hopes for that never got off the ground. Production on a show is not a guarantee that it will get picked up, as a network may decide that the series isn't worth their resources once they see the initial episodes.

Call Me Kat alum Cheyenne Jackson has opened up about the “harrowing” moment the Fox sitcom’s cast learned that their beloved co-star Leslie Jordan had died in a fatal car crash on his way to set. Jackson was one of many of Jordan’s former co-stars and friends who gathered over the weekend to mark the one-year anniversary of the actor’s tragic passing. Jordan’s star was added to the Palm Springs Walk of Stars to honor his legacy. Speaking at the event, Jackson said he first fell in love with Jordan as “a young queer 20-something-year-old in Idaho” watching Will & Grace, in which Jordan played fan-favorite Beverly. “I remember he burst through the door and said, ‘Karen Walker, I thought I smelled gin and regret.’ And I thought, God, I hope I get to meet him one day,” Jackson stated. “And not only did I get to meet him,...

Oscar-winning actress Jessica Chastain has expressed interest in a sequel to 2011 movie ‘The Help’, to further explore the relationship between her character Celia and Octavia Spencer’s Minny. The Oscar-nominated movie faced a backlash for its white savior narrative and oversimplification of harsh truths, with some of the actors expressing regret for their involvement.
As per Deadline, the ‘Dark Phoenix’ and ‘George & Tammy’ star told EW that of all the various characters she has played, one that she thinks about “all the time” and wishes she could play again is her character of Celia Foote from ‘The Help’.
She said: “You know who I think about all the time, and I just wish I could play her (again)? Celia Foote. I just want to do something, Celia and Minny, and see what happened. You know they ended up living together and raising the baby together, they were best friends.

Speaking and embracing his truth! Wayne Brady is getting candid about his sexuality.
The Let’s Make a Deal star recently sat down for an interview with People, and he opened up about identifying as pansexual, and how he defines that for himself.
“In doing my research, both with myself and just with the world, I couldn’t say if I was bisexual, because I had to really see what that was, especially because I really have not gotten a chance to act on anything,” Brady said. “So, I came to pansexual.”
Brady explained, “I know that I’m completely messing up the dictionary meaning — but to me, pan means being able to be attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, transsexual or non-binary. Being able to be attracted across the board.”
“I think, at least for me for right now, that is the proper place,” he added.

Call Me Kat, starring Mayim Bialik, was canceled by Fox after three seasons due to declining ratings and negative reviews. The sitcom experienced a decrease in viewership over time, with season 3 averaging 2.2 million viewers and a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 age group. Critics and audiences criticized the show's content as cringey and underutilizing Bialik's comedic talent, leading to its ultimate cancelation.
One day following the Call Me Kat season 3 finale, Fox announced that it would also serve as the sitcom's series finale since the network canceled the show. Call Me Kat premiered in January 2021 and starred Mayim Bialik as Kat, a single woman in her late 30s who quit her job as a professor at the University of Louisville following the death of her father to pursue her dream of opening a cat café (which she does with the money that her parents gave her for her wedding one day...

Eric McCormack is well known for his portrayal of Will Truman on NBC's Will & Grace, but the actor hesitated before taking the role. In the first episode of his new recap podcast with Sean Hayes (who played the hilarious Jack McFarland), Just Jack & Will, McCormack recalled the auditioning process and how, after being told he had landed the role, he began to worry about the commitment (via Insider). McCormack says his hesitation "had nothing to do" with portraying a gay character and felt that "was the thing about the show that was going to make it rise above the rest."
McCormack shared that after two auditions, he was "unofficially" told he had secured the lead role but would have to wait until after the Christmas holiday for confirmation. That's when, Mc Cormack says, doubt began to creep in:
"I suddenly just got afraid of commitment, of that idea...

June is Gay Pride Month.
It’s a time for those who identify as LGBTQ and their supporters to not only celebrate, but also bring awareness to divisive legislation that seeks to strip individual freedoms and divide rather than unite.
Pride celebrations big and small will be held in cities around the world.
In Los Angeles, festivities will take place over two weekends. On Sunday, June 4, the city of West Hollywood, aka WeHo, held its famous Pride Parade. Transgender model Laith Ashley, Niecy Nash-Betts and Jessica Betts, Melissa McCarthy and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” were named WeHo Pride Parade Icons.
The following Sunday, June 11, was Los Angeles Pride, with Margaret Cho named Icon Grand Marshall, the late Leslie Jordan posthumously named Legacy Grand Marshall and the ACLU of Southern California named Community Grand Marshall.

When Max Mutchnick and David Kohan pitched “Will & Grace” to NBC, the pair were tasked with creating a replacement for “Mad About You.”
“We went and wrote a basic heterosexual love story and their neighbors were these two,” Mutchnick said, referring to stars Eric McCormack and Debra Messing. “And [former NBC entertainment president] Warren Littlefield, to his credit, said, ‘You two seem to really have a vibe on [those friends] next door.’ That’s how the show came to be. Initially, McCormack was paired with Marin Hinkle.

The “Will & Grace” reboot’s political focus almost cost the hit NBC sitcom its syndication rights, co-creator Max Mutchnick revealed during a 25th anniversary panel discussion at the Paley Center for Media on Monday night.
“What was built into the architecture of the show was that we had Karen who was obviously going to be a Trump supporter. And it’s like, ‘Oh, this will be such a good, fertile place to write.’ And we shot this thing and I sent it to our lawyer and he said, ‘Just get ready to lose all of your syndication,'” Mutchnick said. “There’s a thing that if you change the essence of the show, that it no longer stands for what it originally stood for, then you tamper with the possibility of its earning potential.”
He came up with the idea for the revival while on a trip to London with his husband.

Myrtle's last words in American Horror Story: Coven are among the show's most mysterious moments and the "Balenciaga" American Horror Story meaning deserves to be explained. American Horror Story: Coven is the third season of Ryan Murphy's popular anthology series. Primarily following teenager Zoe Benson (Taissa Farmiga), Coven follows a group of witches at Miss Robichaux's Academy as they learn how to conquer the seven wonders and become the school's next Supreme. The third season of American Horror Story has a great cast of Ryan Murphy favorites, such as Jessica Lange, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, and Lily Rabe. However, by far one of the most interesting characters is American Horror Story's Myrtle Snow, played by Frances Conroy.
Myrtle Snow in American Horror Story: Coven is the head of the Witch's Council, alongside Quentin (Leslie Jordan) and Cecily (Robin Bartlett), and comes to Robichaux's to determine who...

One of broadcast TV's best shows is over, and this one hurts.
Fox announced late Tuesday that it had canceled Fantasy Island.
The news broke less than 24 hours after the Fantasy Island Season 2 finale.
"We were very pleased with Fantasy Island's fun and escapist creative, which we had hoped would gain strong traction among viewers," the network said in a statement, adding:
"We'd also like to thank Fantasy Island's cast, led by Roselyn Sánchez, Kiara Barnes and John Gabriel Rodriquez, crew and executive producers Liz Craft, Sarah Fain and Anne Clements for their partnership on the series."
Fantasy Island averaged 2.8 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in its final season with Live + 7 playback included.
The numbers were very soft for Fox, but the fact that the show had a small group of series regulars meant there was a chance the show could survive.
