‘Delivery by Christmas’ (2022) – A Season Movie on Netflix – Review: Unfortunately ‘Trailerless’ It Is An Acceptable Comedy that Pokes Kind Fun at Everything Quotidian
Image
Delivery by Christmas (Jeszcze przed swietami) is a comedy movie starring Monika Frajczyk and directed by Aleksandra Kulakowska and Maciej Prykowski.

A comedy that fuses social realism with the Christmas spirit, in this story of a corporate mix-up.

Premise

Marysia’s career as a courier is on line as a spiteful coworker sabotages her deliveries. Thankfully, a helpful customer comes to the rescue.

Movie Review

Very paced and different to the customary Christmas numbers we are used to see. A genuinely Polish, European movie that distances itself from Hollywood, as you will see in the characterizations, which are more realistic and natural. But, that does not stand in the way for the “magic” that is so characteristic of Christmas rom-coms.

With some deadpan schticks pulled off by good performers it lightens the mood of the film. A comedy that pokes fun at everything quotidian.

This is not a formulaic Christmas movie,...

Official Trailer for Polish Film 'Operation Hyacinth' Coming to Netflix
Tomasz Zietek in Operation Hyacinth (2021)
"I deceived... everyone." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a Polish crime thriller titled Operation Hyacinth, also known as just Hyacinth, connected to the sad, true story of a secret mass operation of the Polish communist police in the 1980s to track homosexuals in Poland. Robert, a young policeman "out of principle", finds a serial gay killer. In the course of the investigation, he meets Arek. She decides to use him as an informant, not realizing how much this relationship will affect not only his work, but also his personal life. The main cast includes Tomasz Ziętek, Hubert Miłkowski, Marek Kalita, Tomasz Schuchardt, Sebastian Stankiewicz, Jacek Poniedziałek, Piotr Trojan, Agnieszka Suchora, Tomasz Włosok, Adrianna Chlebicka, and Mirosław Zbrojewicz. After premiering at the New Horizons Film Festival in Poland this summer, the film will be streaming on Netflix in October. This seems quite good - worth a look. Here's the...

[Tiff Review] Zacma: Blindness
The roles have been reversed for Julia Brystygier (Maria Mamona), the once powerful colonel in the Ussr’s Ministry. She interrogated countless enemies of the state, namely Catholics who rejected the communist concepts ruling them. The human body was her canvas, torture her paintbrush — nothing was out of bounds as far as acquiring the information she sought. But that was years ago. Now she’s a private citizen like the masses trying to survive. A lucky one too considering many of her superiors during that period are now in jail or dead for the crimes they committed. Julia’s prison is therefore self-imposed. Where confidence and control used to reside is now only fear, guilt, and regret. Her solitary hope for salvation becomes forgiveness from a God she doesn’t believe exists.

Ryszard Bugajski‘s Zacma: Blindness opens on an empty apartment, phone incessantly ringing to cut through the silence.
