"The Rain" Epis. 1 "Stay Inside" Expects Viewers to Believe the Unbelievable: A Television Episode Review (and Beyond)
Tagline: "Stay Dry. Stay Alive." Director: Kenneth Kainz. Writers: Jannik Tai Mosholt, Christian Potalivo and Esben Toft Jacobsen. Cast: Alba August, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard and Lars Simonsen. "The Rain" is a science fiction thriller from Denmark. The initial series consists of eight episodes. And, this is the first Danish series for Netflix. In the series, a family struggles to cope with a virus, which is spread through water droplets. The first episode, "Stay Inside," puts the family below ground in a bunker. But, events force some of the characters back outside. The series does not really offer hyper-realism, with a brother and sister surviving in the bunker for five plus years. Still, "The Rain" is a decent apocalyptic series, partially set in the beautiful Danish countryside. The first episode begins and stays with the protagonist, Simone (Alba August). The initial scenes are very light in tone. Characters wear bright smiles and bright,...

Denmark, China sign co-production deal
Lars Løkke Rasmussen
The agreement gives projects access to national film support and the two countries’ theatrical markets.

Denmark has become the first Nordic country to sign a film co-production agreement with China.

The signing took place today (May 3) in Beijing, timed with Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen’s official visit to China.

The agreement gives film projects access to national film support – Chinese films can apply for Danish Film Institute funding — and the two countries’ theatrical markets. The latter means that Danish films co-produced with Chinese partners will not be subject to China’s import quota of 38 foreign films a year, but instead will be on the same footing as Chinese films in terms of access to the lucrative Chinese film market.

The agreement was negotiated by China’s Sapprft (State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television) and the Danish Film Institute.

Dfi CEO Henrik Bo Nielsen signed the agreement Wednesday at a ceremony at the...

From Stone Cold Killer To Hapless Husband, Nikolaj Lie Kaas Goes Slapstick In Therapy
Well, well.  After finally drawing some much-deserved international attention as the cold blooded killer in Angels and Demons, Denmark's Nikolaj Lie Kaas has taken a turn to something about as far away from his Angels character as is humanly possible.  Lie Kaas will next be on screen as one of the leads in Kenneth Kainz' Parterapi (Therapy).  Lie Kaas plays Anders, a working class shlub who buys his beautiful young wife a ramshackle old house to transform into their dream home.  But to afford the expense the must rent out the basement.  Enter family therapist Ulrik ...

Yes, it's basically The Money Pit with a few added wrinkles but - if the trailer is to be believed - it is remarkably well done with Lie Kaas showing a remarkable gift for physical comedy, a side of himself that he seldom gets to show.  Yes, please.  Check the trailer below.
