Robert Carradine claims he should have been nominated for his role as Lewis Skolnik, the leader of the Lambda Lambda Lambdas in 1984’s Revenge of the Nerds. The reason Carradine believes his acting was Oscar-worthy? Because a nerd “couldn’t have been farther from who I was.”
Carradine’s boast on the inaugural episode of his Revenge of the Party Nerds podcast is just the latest in his history of pronouncements that instead of being a nerd, he was the kind of guy who kicked nerds’ asses. “I’m not a fucking nerd! I hate nerds!” Carradine told Curtis “Booger” Armstrong in his 2017 memoir, Revenge of the Nerd. “I was Bobby Carradine. One of the Princes of Hollywood, as far as I was concerned.”

Robin Williams is best known for his film comedies, such as Mrs. Doubtfire and Aladdin, but when asked about his own prized performances, Williams leaned toward more dramatic work. Forget Mork & Mindy – here are six roles that the comic named as his favorites, as reported by Far Out…
1 Dead Poets Society
According to the Williams biography, Robin, Dead Poets Society was originally slated to be directed by Jeff Kanew, the auteur behind Revenge of the Nerds. Williams didn’t see the story as a comedy and wouldn’t commit until Peter Weir signed on to direct. Williams identified with the story’s plot about a young man who dreams of becoming an actor but is opposed by a stern father who wants him to be more responsible. “It talks about something of the heart and of pursuing that which is a dream — and in some cases, to a tragic end,...

It’s always complicated looking at the early stuff. Especially when “the early stuff” hasn’t been publicly available for a few decades, and was very much a trial run for the later stuff, which used a lot of the same elements and ideas in a more coherent, consistent way.
That’s why it took until 2024 for Thorn: The Complete Proto-Bone College Strips 1982-1986 to be published; Jeff Smith knew that as well as anyone, and Bone, even now, is his major work, the core of his resume, and probably still his largest source of income. Add that to any creator’s standard disinterest at looking back at juvenilia, and this is work that could easily have stayed moldering in a vault indefinitely, only to roll out in some posthumous Complete Works or similar exercise.

Released soon after the end of the Great Depression and on the precipice of America’s entry into World War II, William Dieterle’s All That Money Can Buy is a peculiar and fascinating blend of the populist agitprop of the 1930s and the patriotic hokum that defined much of the war years.
In transposing the legend of Faust and his pact with the devil to a rousing bit of American folklore, the screenplay by Dan Totheroh and Stephen Vincent Benét presents greed as anathema to the American way of life, and in one of the few brief eras where that notion was anything short of risible. As such, rugged individualism is spurned in favor of collectivism, specifically in the exalting of the values of an agricultural grange—a communal safety net for small farmers like All That Money Can Buy’s protagonist, Jabez Stone (James Craig).

Timeslip was a '90s initiative to reimagine Marvel characters, including Silver Surfer and Galactus. In this reality, Silver Surfer assembles a weapon to kill Galactus, but then discovers he must replace his former master. The guilt destroys Silver Surfer, turning him into an inhuman force of destruction who splits planets in two with his new, blade-like board.
The Silver Surfer is one of Marvel's most tragic heroes - a heroic adventurer who sold his soul to protect his world, becoming the herald of the planet-devouring force of nature known as Galactus. However, it turns out that things could have gone far, far worse for Norrin Radd.
In the late '90s, Marvel asked a question - what would its most iconic heroes look like if the most popular artists of the day had co-created them with Stan Lee? The answer was Timeslip - an initiative where acclaimed artists reimagined major characters from first principles.

Revenge of the Nerds was released in 1984, a year of sea change in Hollywood, as the city of Los Angeles hosted a memorable Summer Olympics, and non-traditional films were again in fashion after the end of the New Hollywood era. Director Jeff Kanew directed several such comedies in the 80s, but none more celebrated than Revenge of the Nerds — which had a script inspired by an article about the 'nerds' taking over Silicon Valley. During development, Kanew saw Ted McGinley and his chiseled features on the cover of USC Magazine, and knew he'd be the perfect collegiate alpha male and head bully to oppose his heroic cadre of pencil-pushing geeks.
On the nerd team, the casting of Lewis (Robert Carradine) and Gilbert (Anthony Edwards) proved central to the film's success, as Carradine became iconic with his signature laugh and horn-rimmed spectacles, and Edwards provided the film's soul as the 'straight man' of the duo.

We want movies to move us. We want them to soothe us, and carry us through bad times; we want them to make us laugh, make us feel connected to others, and show us beauty and splendor we've never seen before. And, sometimes, we want movies to truly, deeply disturb us.
Never mind why; maybe we're numb and want to be rattled into feeling, maybe we're feeling too much and want to channel it all somewhere, or maybe we just want to believe the world is still capable of bowling us over despite of our defenses. Whatever the case, we all sometimes take to a movie specifically because of one particular moment in it that makes us feel horrible.
Conversely, we sometimes don't want movies to disturb us, and yet they do — when we're least expecting them to, or when we're making an earnest effort to meet them halfway, they...

DC Comics offers a variety of stories that can be easily finished during a leisurely afternoon read, featuring classic superheroes and villains. The recommended series include iconic titles like Batman: The Long Halloween, Superman: Red Son, and Watchmen, which are lauded for their gripping narratives and acclaimed storytelling. As one of the oldest comic book publishers in the game, DC Comics has hundreds of stories featuring some of the greatest heroes and villains in the superhero genre. In April 2022, after news that Netflix had canceled a planned TV series adaptation of Jeff Smith’s comic series Bone, Smith took to the internet to publish a comic strip that encapsulated his feelings on the endeavor and prior attempts to make a Bone adaptation. In the comic, the duplicitous character Phoney Bone holds up a football, just like Lucy van Pelt, for the plucky Fone Bone to kick. Each time he holds up the pigskin, Phoney introduces himself as being from Nickelodeon, Warner Bros., or Netflix and promising to do right with a Bone adaptation. Fone Bone gets stoked each time…only for the football and the promise of a proper Bone adaptation to get pulled away.

Inside Job’s season 2 has just been canceled, and said cancelation makes Netflix’s animation curse even worse. The first part of season 1 was quick to garner a fanbase for its quirky humor and unique interpretations of conspiracy theories, in addition to how endearing Reagan Ridley was as a lead through her social anxieties and being the straight man of the cast. It even garnered over 21 million hours of views within its first week (via What’s on Netflix). The second part of season 1 kept all of that going to much fanfare, and because of that, there was much anticipation for how season 2 would keep things going.
Unfortunately, none of that will ever come to pass. Despite already being renewed for a second season, Netflix's Inside Job show was suddenly canceled before work on season 2 could be started. The cancelation is disappointing, but what makes it even worse is how...

Jeff Smith's epic graphic novel fantasy adventure, Bone, spans 9 books and starts as a tale of three brothers coming across a fairytale world and ends with those same, bone-shaped cousins saving it from complete destruction. It's been enjoyed by children, adults, and anyone in between. The Bone cousins are smart, funny, and prone to bouts of arrogance and stupidity, but it all makes for an excellent ride.
Netflix had even planned to create a series, but plans fell through in the spring of 2022, according to Av Club. It's not the first time a tv adaptation has been canceled but with such a wealth of story and characters, more studios are sure to take a crack at the series. The characters of Bone are a big part of its success; the friends and foes met along the way are all unique and well-crafted with light-hearted comic moments and dire personal tragedies that drive the story.

Bloody Disgusting has the first word on Witchcraft Motion Picture Company and Good Wizard’s Creep Box, writer/director Patrick Biesemans’ cerebral sci-fi thriller that was recently shot on location in Manhattan.
The film follows a unique engineer at a technology firm specializing in communicating with “whispers” of the recently deceased. Netflix’s The State of Alabama vs Brittany Smith, a taut true-crime documentary from The Keepers director Ryan White, follows the distressing story of an Alabama mother who was charged with murdering a man she said raped her.
Smith’s case became the focus of an attention-grabbing New Yorker investigation, in part because Smith invoked a “stand your ground” defence. In over 30 US states, including Alabama, state law makes it legal to use lethal force to defend oneself against threats or even perceived threats. In this case, Smith was cornered in her own home by her assailant – an old acquaintance called Todd Smith – who told Smith he’d kill her if she called the police.
But her stand your ground defence failed. In fact, as journalist Elizabeth Flock, who serves as executive producer on the Netflix series, found, women are much less likely than men to successfully invoke “stand your...

This year's Emmy season has come and gone, and amongst the historic wins for Sheryl Lee Ralph, Quinta Brunson, and Lee Jung-jae, Netflix also took home the statue for Best Animated Program for the very first time. The streaming giant has been nominated in the past for "Big Mouth" and "BoJack Horseman," but it was "Arcane" that finally brought home the gold, and made Netflix the first streamer to ever take home the award.
This year's category was absolutely stacked, with "Arcane" besting the already Emmy award-winning series "The Simpsons," "Bob's Burgers," and "Rick and Morty," as well as the Chadwick Boseman-voiced episode of "What If...?" for Disney+. "Arcane" co-creator Christian Linke accepted the award during the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, delivering a speech honoring the video game world that inspired the series:

Sam Fender, Little Simz, and Harry Styles are among the artists shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize.
The shortlist was unveiled in July, comprising 12 albums – from rap and jazz to indie and Cornish folk-rock – that will compete for the coveted award at a ceremony held this September.
This year’s entries are among the most eclectic in recent years. Little Simz is shortlisted for the second time with her critically adored Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, following on from her nod in 2019 for Grey Area.
Rock singer Sam Fender receives his debut nomination for his second LP, Seventeen Going Under, as does pop star Harry Styles, who has been shortlisted for his third studio album, Harry’s House. His record is arguably the most “pure pop” album to be shortlisted since Ed Sheeran’s controversial nomination in 2017.
First-time nominees make up most of this year’s nominees, following last year’s shortlist which included 10 debuts.

This celebrated dysfunctional family story won four Oscars, the most deserved easily being Alvin Sargent’s superb adapted screenplay. The viewer buzz initially centered on the surprise of Mary Tyler Moore’s unexpected casting against type, but even more alarming was author Judith Guest’s scary message that ‘perfect’ families are an illusion. We found the drama absorbing and bought the performances 100 — Sutherland, Hirsch, Hutton, McGovern. It’s clearly Robert Redford’s best job of direction.

Her passing comes less than six months after the death of her husband of 33 years, longtime TV and film producer Charles “Chuck” Fries.
Born in Dexter, Mo, Ava Fries earned a degree in Theatre Arts and English at the University of Tulsa before moving with her young family to Los Angeles, where she taught English and theater at schools while beginning her career in show business, first as a television actress and off camera.
After serving as a development executive with Danny Thomas Productions, she formed her own production company, Avanti Enterprises, which in 1987 produced the documentary series Born Famous, about the children of the rich and famous.

According to Variety, Seth MacFarlane is poised to reboot the 1984 comedy Revenge of the Nerds with the identical twins Keith and Kenny Lucas starring in the film. Rather than a remake of the dated and offensive original, the plan is to refashion the basic plot of the film and contextualize the meaning of nerd culture in the 21st century.

The Revenge of the Nerds reboot is finally moving forward, courtesy of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. MacFarlane is developing a new take on the classic comedy at 20th Century Studios with identical twin comedians Keith and Kenny Lucas set to star. The Lucas brothers are also co-writing the script with Alex Rubens, and MacFarlane will produce under his Fuzzy Door Productions banner alongside Erica Higgins.
Per the report, the Seth MacFarlane reboot will not be a straight remake of the original 1984 movie, which has faced criticism in recent years its depictions of rape. The new Revenge of the Nerds is instead described as a "contemporary reimagining" that will "pontificate about today's nerd culture and what even constitutes a geek in the 21st century."

Seth MacFarlane will produce a reboot of the 1984 nerds vs. jocks comedy “Revenge of the Nerds” that will star and be written by comedians Kenny and Keith Lucas aka The Lucas Brothers, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
The project is currently in development at 20th Century Studios, with MacFarlane producing with Erica Huggins for his company Fuzzy Door Productions. The Lucas Brothers will co-write the script with Alex Reubens, who has written for both “Key & Peele” and “Rick & Morty.”
The new “Revenge of the Nerds” will be a reboot rather than a direct remake of the original, which has not aged well due to its depictions of rape that have been criticized in recent years. The new film will be set in the present-day and will re-imagine what we consider nerdy in 2020.

Seth MacFarlane is reviving the age old rivalry between jocks and nerds. The comedic actor is developing a reboot of the seminal ’80s comedy “Revenge of the Nerds” at 20th Century Studios.
Keith and Kenny Lucas, identical twin brothers best known for their scene-stealing roles in “22 Jump Street,” are set to write and star in the film. They are co-writing the script with Alex Rubens. Sony’s TriStar Pictures is making a sequel to the 1989 comedy “Troop Beverly Hills” that starred Shelley Long, and the studio has set Oran Zegman to make her feature directorial debut on the project.
Aeysha Carr, who is the showrunner on “Woke” and is currently writing Paramount’s “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” remake starring Will Smith and Kevin Hart, wrote the script, and it’s now undergoing a remake by Tamara Chestna (“Moxie”), who will also have a producing role. It’s unclear if any of the original cast will return.
“Troop Beverly Hills” is the story of a pampered Beverly Hills housewife who tried to prove to her daughter that she could rough it as a Wilderness Girls leader and care for a group of girls. The film provided early roles for Carla Gugino and musician Jenny Lewis, among others, and has become a cult classic thanks to its feminist themes and warm heart.

The 1987 comedy-drama Good Morning, Vietnam was a very unconventional hit movie. A war film, and a hugely comedic one, it remains most remembered, not unfairly, for being the breakout movie role for Robin Williams, seizing his moment and his day with incredible impact.
Williams, by this stage of his career, was already hugely popular on television, courtesy of Mork & Mindy. But the genesis of the movie that would ignite his film career actually lay back to even before then, in 1979. That’s when the real-life Adrian Cronauer, on whose story the film is based, pitched a sitcom based around his experiences as DJ in the Vietnam War. It got the interest of agent Larry Brezner, who bought an option on the story. But television networks...

The first day of production on Dead Poets Society was such a disaster, its sets were burned down...
One of the late Robin Williams' most beloved films is Peter Weir's Dead Poets Society. In the movie, Williams played John Keating, the unorthodox teacher at a 1959 boys prep school. Even just writing those words makes me want to stand on a table and proclaim "oh captain my captain."
As with many loved movies though, there's a story or two lying behind the success of Dead Poets Society (a movie that Dustin Hoffman was once upon a time going to star in and direct). In particular, after one day of shooting, it looked like the film wasn't going to happen at all. As screenwriter Tom Schulman told From Script To Screen at the University Of California, Revenge Of The Nerds director Jeff Kanew was set to direct at one stage,...

Thirty years have passed since Lewis, Gilbert, Poindexter, Lamar, Wormser, Takashi, and Booger banded together as Lambda Lambda Lambda and emerged victorious over their Panhellenic douche-donis tormentors from Alpha Beta.
Somewhere amid the panty raids, electric-violin pyrotechnics, drunk tricycle riding, and moon-bounce hanky-panky, Revenge of the Nerds became a rallying point for anyone who’d ever felt “laughed at and made to feel inferior,” for anyone who’d ever felt “stepped on, left out, picked on, put down.” It seems fitting that Nerds didn’t sweep any awards shows or top the annual box office (it settled in a respectable 16th place). Actress Kristanna Loken talks about her role Hottessa in The Legend of Awesomest Maximus, due out on Blu-ray and DVD March 20
Actress Kristanna Loken broke onto the scene playing the deadly/sexy T-x terminator in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, after many years of smaller guest-starring roles on TV. The actress has put together a diverse body of work since then, with bigger TV roles, recurring on The L Word and starring as Painkiller Jane, and film roles such as BloodRayne and Swat: Firefight.
The actress is now delving into the comedy world with the spoof National Lampoon's the Legend of Awesomest Maximus, which debuts on Blu-ray and DVD March 20. I recently had the chance to speak with Kristanna Loken over the phone, and here's what she had to say about playing a character named Hottessa in this spoof.
