“Who Shot Jr?” was a question that mesmerized the world. But it only did so from the final episode of Dallas Season 3, which aired on March 21, 1980, through the fourth episode of Season 4, which aired on November 21, 1980, and revealed the culprit. Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings was originally released in the UK at a time when I was heavily getting into horror yet was, legally, still too young to rent 18-rated titles from the local video shop (a shop which to this day I credit with the formative years of my movie tastes). It was also at a time when Jeff Burr was being hailed, at least in some corners of the UK and US horror press, as the future of the genre. After all, he had helmed the fan-favourite Vincent Price-starring horror anthology From a Whisper to a Scream and then the very successful sequel The Stepfather 2, before hitting the “big time” as director on the third film in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.

A few cast members of CBS vaunted Dallas primetime sudser apparently were “pissed” to see their Season 9 storylines get washed down the drain when Bobby Ewing “returned from the dead.”

Patrick Duffy’s character on the 1970s/80s serial was tragically killed in the Season 8 finale, after Bobby pushed wife Pam out of harm’s way and got mowed down by a car instead.

Walter Mirisch’s slam-bang, eardrum-pounding Sensurround stock footage orgy for the Centennial Year gathers an impressive lineup of big stars to celebrate the U.S. Navy’s biggest aircraft carrier battle: Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, James Coburn, Glenn Ford, Hal Holbrook, Toshiro Mifune. Director Jack Smight manages the talky, exposition-laden account of a sprawling, complicated battle rather well, at least in terms of clarity. What is unwatchable pan-scanned on TV isn’t half bad for fans of big-scale war movies. Pi gives us an approximation of Sensurround (I think), and also John Ford’s short subject The Battle of Midway from 1942.

There's nothing like a Ewing-family wedding to lure familiar faces back to Southfork Ranch.

Such guests were present in "Lifting the Veil," Monday's (March 17) episode of TNT's "Dallas" update. The occasion was the official nuptials of the already eloped John Ross (Josh Henderson) and Pamela (Julie Gonzalo), but complications arose right from the start of the big day, as John Ross' secretary Candice (Jude Demorest) summoned him to a long-sought meeting about the fracking permit he wanted.

"I've gotta take another raincheck," he told the romantically inclined Pamela, but he promised he'd be back in plenty of time for the ceremony. Her worried look indicated she didn't completely buy it.

Sue Ellen confirmed to Ann that John Ross was dallying with Emma ... "and we have got to do something about it." To that end, Sue Ellen wanted Emma to leave Southfork, but Ann feared that might make the drug cartel suspicious.

Dallas's emotional farewell to Larry Hagman airs in the UK next week on Channel 5.

The funeral for Jr Ewing will be the centrepiece for the second season's eighth episode, 'Jr's Masterpiece'. Jr was shot by a mystery killer in the previous episode, a nod to the famous 'Who shot Jr?' storyline from the 1980s incarnation of the show.

Following the death of Hagman at the end of 2012, producers and writers created a tribute to Hagman with the funeral episode.

The instalment features guest appearances from Ted Shackelford as Gary Ewing, Charlene Tilton as Lucy Ewing Cooper, Cathy Podewell as Cally Harper Ewing, Deborah Shelton as Mandy Winger and Steve Kanaly as Ray Krebbs.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, and Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings also appear.

The rest of season two will centre around the new 'Who shot Jr?' mystery.

Dallas exec Cynthia Cidre...

In many ways, Larry Hagman‘s final appearance on TNT’s Dallas… wasn’t.

Though the beloved actor had three scenes in last week’s episode — culminating with the moment in which J.R. was shot by an unseen assailant — each of those sequences was fashioned from preexisting footage and dialogue, as producers scrambled to reconfigure Season 2 in the wake of Hagman’s passing. Reflecting on the process, executive producer Cynthia Cidre tells TVLine, “‘Crafty’ is a good description” for what they pulled off.

But well before that bit of FX magic came into play, the Dallas brass needed to figure out how J.

New York — Who killed J.R.?

That's the mystery propelling "Dallas" through the rest of its second season as a TNT revival.

And that question hangs heavy in the upcoming episode (airing Monday at 9 p.m. Edt), which confirms the sad truth every viewer knew was coming: glorious scoundrel J.R. Ewing has died, after decades of living-on-the-edge infamy dating back at least to 1980, when he was gunned down in his office and left for dead, with "Who shot J.R.?" the question on every viewer's lips for months afterward.

J.R.'s fate was sealed this time by the intrusion of reality. In November, Larry Hagman died of cancer at 81. And when he died, he took J.R. with him.

So the new episode – surely the first without Hagman's deliciously vile presence – stands as a fitting tribute both to him and to J.R., complete with a wake and...

The "Dallas" goodbye to J.R. Ewing is nearly complete.

Tuesday (Jan. 22) marks the end of filming the pivotal chapter that bids farewell to the iconic character and the actor who played him -- the late Larry Hagman -- as Season 2 of the serial's TNT reboot nears its premiere Monday, Jan. 28. Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray, who are reprising their Bobby and Sue Ellen roles in the new version, naturally have big roles in the story ... but other past staples of "Dallas" also are present.

"We just did a memorial scene at the Petroleum Club," executive producer Cynthia Cidre tells Zap2it of the episode expected to be televised in early March. "That's the more rollicking part, where people are telling funny stories about J.R. Right now, we're shooting the funeral, which is private for family only. He's being buried at Southfork, so Ray and Gary and Lucy (again...

Two months after Larry Hagman's November 23 death, the Dallas cast past and present has assembled at the city's swanky Petroleum Club to shoot an epic, drama-filled memorial for his legendary J.R. Ewing. On set, the late actor's spirit is still very much alive. Each morning when he passes Hagman's trailer, Patrick Duffy, who plays Bobby Ewing, knocks on his friend's door. Two former Dallas stars will return to the series for Jr Ewing's funeral. Ruthless oil tycoon Jr will be written out of the revamped soap following the death of actor Larry Hagman, who had played the character since 1978. Deborah Shelton - who played Jr's mistress Mandy Winger on the original Dallas between 1984 and 1987 - will make a brief appearance in the funeral episode, TV Guide reports. "Dallas" opened to big ratings for TNT on Wednesday, and no doubt part of the allure was seeing several old cast members interacting with newcomers to the show.

Patrick Duffy, Larry Hagman and Linda Gray have been front and center in the show's marketing, but long-time fans got a nice surprise in the premiere when Lucy Ewing (Charlene Tilton) and Ray Krebbs (Steve Kanaly) returned to Southfork for Christopher's (Jesse Metcalfe) wedding. Most of the characters from the original "Dallas" are still alive (as are the actors who played them), so it's natural to think we might be seeing more familiar faces pop up somewhere down the line.

The show's producers are open to the idea as well. Showrunner Cynthia Cidre has said she wants to honor everything that happened in the show's 1978-91 incarnation, which would seem to leave the door open for more returns. Some likely suspects:

For those of you too young to remember, and that includes much of the cast, the phenomenon of dirty double (and triple) dealings, family rivalry, murder and professional backstabbing practically ruled the ratings for an entire decade. The rebirth of "Dallas" on TNT Wednesday night (June 13) felt pretty familiar -- in both good and bad ways.

On the good side, it's clear that Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray still enjoy the heck out of playing J.R., Bobby and Sue Ellen. There's nothing like a 20-year break (give or take a couple of TV movies) to refresh an actor's approach to a familiar character, and all three commanded the screen in their scenes.

The downside of that, though, is that the three "Dallas" veterans tended to overshadow the new cast members. The focus of the new show is on the conflict between J.R.'s and Bobby's sons, John Ross and Christopher, but as mentioned in Zap2it's review of the show, it often felt like they were playing out things we'd seen many times before in the show's prior iteration.

Sometime in the not so distant past a person came up with the idea of bringing back Dallas to TV. The popular nighttime soap opera had had an extended run back in the '70s and '80s so maybe it was time for an update. This concept was not so amazing, but the fact that someone took the idea and ran with it and came up with a continuation of the Dallas story is. Actor Steve Kanaly almost turned down the chance to return to legendary TV show Dallas for its relaunch later this year - as his character is barely involved in the plot.

Kanaly was invited by producers to reprise his role as former Southfork Ranch foreman Ray Krebbs in the sex-and-scandal drama, but was left disappointed by his lack of lines in the script.

He finally relented after a meeting with the show's bosses - and he's been promised a bigger role if future episodes are commissioned.

Kanaly tells DallasFanzine.com, "My part isn't too big in this early episode (but) I've been told that there are other things for the character down the road... I honestly was thinking about passing on this 'cause there wasn't much for me to do, and then I talked to the casting (director) and the director and they were all very enthusiastic about having me come in, and I'm very pleased that I decided to do it now."...

Dallas star Steve Kanaly is delighted producers axed plans for a big screen remake of the hit TV soap with Brad Pitt and John Travolta in the leading roles.

Studio bosses decided to relaunch the sex-and-scandal show as a new TV series after plans to make an all-star movie version fell through.

They also opted to bring back original cast members Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, Charlene Tilton and Linda Gray to keep the saga authentic - and Kanaly, who also returns, is convinced the producers made the correct choice.

He tells UltimateDallas.com, "After all the talk about John Travolta and Brad Pitt taking the roles in the Dallas film, I am so happy that it is happening this way instead.

"People have been talking about that for years. But fans have always said that it would not be the same without the original cast members in it."...

Dallas star Steve Kanaly considered taking horse-riding lessons before shooting his scenes for the show's relaunch, because he'd forgotten how to saddle-up since leaving the programme in 1988.

The actor was frequently seen galloping on his mount and herding cows during his role as ranch foreman Ray Krebbs in the hit drama's original run.

He was signed up to reprise the role when Dallas relaunches later this year but feared he'd need to brush up his cowboy skills to avoid any embarrassing mishaps onset.

Kanaly tells UltimateDallas.com, "The last time I was on a horse I fell off and hurt myself. I had been riding all those years as well. I may have to take some more lessons so I don't fall off anymore."...

The folks over at TNT are certainly excited about the new Dallas and they want you to get excited as well. As you've no doubt heard, TNT has ordered 10 episodes of the TV series. They shot the pilot earlier this year and are currently shooting the rest.

The new Dallas revolves around the "next generation" of Ewings (Josh Henderson and Jesse Metcalfe) but doesn't forget about the original Southfork power players (Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, and Linda Gray). Others in the series cast include: Jordana Brewster, Brenda Strong, Julie Gonzalo, and Marlene Forte.

Though we haven't seen any footage of them yet, original Dallas castmembers Steve Kanaly, Charlene Tilton, and Ken Kercheval are slated to appear in various capacities. The new Dallas will debut sometime next summer on TNT.

"Extra" host Maria Menounos went on an exclusive set tour of the new "Dallas" TV reboot where she sat down with its star, Larry Hagman, to talk about reprising his role as baddie J.R. Ewing, and about his battle against prostate cancer.

TNT has announced that they are moving forward with their new Dallas series and have ordered 10 episodes for the summer of 2012. Unlike the new Hawaii Five-0, the new Dallas will be a continuation of the popular primetime soap that ran for more than 10 years on CBS.

The new series will revolve primarily around J.R. Ewing's son John Ross (Josh Henderson) and Bobby Ewing's son Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe). When last we saw the cousins, they were pretty close but apparently times have changed.

Members of the former cast will be part of the action as well but its unknown to what extent. The original TV series characters who will appear in at least the pilot include J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman), Sue Ellen Ewing (Linda Gray), Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy), Ray Krebbs (Steve Kanaly), and Lucy Ewing (Charlene Tilton).

TNT has ordered to series and set a premiere timetable for its continuation of the iconic Dallas saga.

The new series featuring faces both fresh and very familiar will bow in the summer of 2012, the network announced on Friday. But seeing as that feels so, so far away, fans can get a sneak preview of Dallas this coming Monday, during the season openers of The Closer (9/8c) and Rizzoli & Isles (10/9c).
