The Harlem Globetrotters Teams With ‘The Fighter’ Producer Todd Lieberman For Film About History Of Iconic Black Basketball Team

Exclusive: The Harlem Globetrotters and Todd Lieberman’s Hidden Pictures are set to produce a documentary chronicling the history and impact of the legendary basketball team as they approach their 100th anniversary in 2026.

Emmy-winning ESPN Films and NFL Films producer and filmmaker Kenan Kamwana Holley will direct.

Founded in Chicago in 1926, the Harlem Globetrotters were the first all-Black American basketball team that showcased and captured the spirit and talent of Black athletes at a time when they were not eligible to play professional team basketball. The doc will shine a light, via talking heads and archive material, on the players’ inspirational story of overcoming adversity, leading equity for people of color, and breaking barriers for women players. Among players to have played for the team over the decades are Wilt Chamberlain, Lynette Woodard, “Wee” Willie Gardner, Marques Haynes, Fred “Curly” Neal and “Sweet Lou” Dunbar.

The Rise & Fall Of The American Basketball Association Chronicled In Amazon Docuseries

Exclusive: The story of the American Basketball Association (Aba), which was responsible for stars such as Julius Erving, is to be told in a new docuseries for Amazon.

Prime Video has ordered a multi-part docuseries, currently untitled, about the the rise and fall of the league, which defined one of America’s most turbulent eras and shaped the NBA as we know it today.

The series comes from Prime Video Sports, George Karl’s Truth+ Media, Todd Lieberman’s Hidden Pictures, and Kenan Kamwana Holley’s Holley Films. It comes after former Mandeville Films and Television co-chief Lieberman recently launched his own film and TV company Hidden Pictures.

The Aba, which was in existence between 1967 and 1976, was responsible for the addition of teams including the New York Nets, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, and San Antonio Spurs to the NBA as well as the introduction of the three-point shot. It ceased...
