The buddy comedy is back with Succession breakout Kieran Culkin and The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg in their familial road comedy A Real Pain. The film, written and directed by Eisenberg, is sitting pretty with a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score and nestled in the top spot on Hulu's Top 10. The heartfelt comedy was just released in theaters this past November but has become a streaming hit in just a few short days on Hulu.

A Real Pain is also off to the races picking up awards as it was nominated for 4 Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture for a Musical or Comedy, and won Best Supporting Actor in A Motion Picture for Kieran Culkin as Benji. 'Succession's Kieran Culkin Earns Golden Globe for His Performance in 'A Real Pain'
Image
This year's Golden Globes saw countless underappreciated actors finally get the recognition they deserve. Colin Farrell made comic book history with his win for The Penguin, and Mubi's horror film, The Substance, earned Demi Moore her first major win in over 30 years. But, while the underdogs dominated the show, Kieran Culkin continued his awards season streak with yet another win. But, the actor hung up his Succession suit and tie in 2023, earning a Golden Globe for his performance in the final season. This time, he took home another performance-based award for his performance in the underrated A Real Pain.

Kieran Culkin took home the award for Best Supporting Male Actor - Motion Picture for his performance in A Real Pain. Written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, who also stars in the film, the movie sees the pair play cousins with clashing personalities as they take a tour through Poland to honor their deceased grandmother.

A Real Pain Review: Jesse Eisenberg's Second Directorial Feature Is A Heartfelt Dramedy
Image
This review was originally published on January 26, 2024, as a part of Screen Rant's Sundance Film Festival coverage.

Jesse Eisenberg returned to the 2024 Sundance Film Festival with his second directorial feature, the intimate and heartfelt A Real Pain. The actors first directorial feature, When You Finish Saving the World, had its fair share of stumbling blocks, but its biggest issue was that it felt disconnected and trite. A Real Pain, on the other hand, showcases Eisenbergs writing and directing skills in a better light. It has its lighthearted moments, but in its exploration of complicated familial relationships and generational trauma and the different ways it affects people, Eisenberg, who also stars opposite Kieran Culkin, crafts something more honest.
