An early draft for Predator 2 featured a cameo written for comedian Billy Crystal - and it was suitably bizarre. As reported by Avp Galaxy, this first draft for Predator 2 isn't hugely different from the final version, though there are some key deviations. The story is set in New York instead of L.A., Gary Busey's Peter Keyes survives and the titular alien is killed off by his own clan in the finale. Those who've watched Predator 2 may recall a scene where the wounded creature patches itself up in the apartment of an elderly couple, with wife Ruth becoming increasingly distressed by the squeals coming from their bathroom.

It's a moment of comic relief to break up the action, but the first draft had the Ruth role earmarked for Billy Crystal. The intent was likely to put Crystal in old age makeup like his scenes in The Princess Bride,...

12 Years a Slave may have been just pipped to the post at this year's Oscar nominations, but there is consolation for Steve McQueen: his film dominates the longlist for the first ever Guardian Film Awards.
