An early draft for Predator 2 featured a cameo written for comedian Billy Crystal - and it was suitably bizarre. As reported by Avp Galaxy, this first draft for Predator 2 isn't hugely different from the final version, though there are some key deviations. The story is set in New York instead of L.A., Gary Busey's Peter Keyes survives and the titular alien is killed off by his own clan in the finale. Those who've watched Predator 2 may recall a scene where the wounded creature patches itself up in the apartment of an elderly couple, with wife Ruth becoming increasingly distressed by the squeals coming from their bathroom.
It's a moment of comic relief to break up the action, but the first draft had the Ruth role earmarked for Billy Crystal. The intent was likely to put Crystal in old age makeup like his scenes in The Princess Bride,...

Last week we launched the inaugural Guardian Film Awards. This week, we take a closer look at the longlist in each category. Today: the best supporting actor nominees
• Vote now
You know the drill. Just as with best actor and best picture and all the rest of the categories, we need you to give this longlist a bit of a trim. You have until noon on 16 February to cast your vote; a primer is below, as well as five key contenders who failed to make the grade.
As ever, do chip into the comment thread with feedback and suggestions. And, as explained and still endlessly debated, our best actor and best supporting actor categories are open to both (all?) genders. Here's our longlist, in alphabetical order:
Amy Adams, Her
History will record that what Amy Adams was really good at this year was being fishy in a frock few loan managers could pull off.

12 Years a Slave may have been just pipped to the post at this year's Oscar nominations, but there is consolation for Steve McQueen: his film dominates the longlist for the first ever Guardian Film Awards.
The awards, which aim to act as an antidote rather than an addition to the established slate of ceremonies, will be handed out at a winners-only event in London just after this year's Academy Awards. The awards reflect Guardian values in two ways: first in terms of categories - Best Actor, for instance, is open to both genders, reflecting Guardian...
