Stx will handle the film’s Us release and international sales and distribution, while Alibaba Pictures will retain rights for Greater China. The parties said they were already plotting to expand the project onto other platforms.

Steel Soldiers follows a disgraced Special Forces officer in a futuristic world who is tasked with leading a team of high-tech android soldiers in a mission to rescue the robot’s creator. Ken Kaufman wrote the screenplay.

Bob Simonds' STX Entertainment is partnering with China's Alibaba Pictures to co-produce Steel Soldiers, an original sci-fi action movie set in a futuristic world where humans and androids battle side by side.

STX is taking U.S. and international distribution rights under the partnership, while Alibaba Pictures will handle the Greater China release.

It seems the bad guys are after the plutonium - again.

Ubisoft has officially announced that they will be releasing The Expendables 2 Video Game later this summer for Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and the PC. A prequel to the upcoming blockbuster, the game will be a third-person shooter with support for both local and online four-player co-op play.

Here's a pretty rote teaser trailer for Affliction: The Motion Picture... er, The Expendables 2, which puts Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham back at the forefront of an action extravaganza that also stars Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth, Bruce Willis, and [1] Arnold Schwarzenegger. MovieHole has officially confirmed martial artist Scott Adkins has signed on as a henchman in the upcoming action sequel “The Expendables 2.” Adkins had roles in several action films including “Black Mask 2: City of Masks,” “The Medallion,” “Undisputed III: Redemption,” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.” He will be appearing in another upcoming sequel “Universal Soldier: A New Dimension” next year. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sylvester Stallone confirmed the monstrous cast for The Expendables 2 and teased a few more recognizable names before shooting gets underway next month.

The macho sequel’s cast already boasts Stallone and returning stars Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, and Terry Crews. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis will expand their cameos in the original to more “substantial” parts in the ensemble (potentially on opposite sides of the battle). Stallone also confirmed rumors that they have added Jean-Claude Van Damme a.k.a. “The Muscles from Brussels” and Chuck Norris, a.k.a. “The Guy from All Those Old Internet Jokes.” There was no confirmation in EW’s report on Undisputed martial artist Scott Adkins.

“We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one,” Stallone said.

There have been a lot of rumours about who's staying, who's leaving and who's joining the cast of The Expendables 2. Now according to Empire, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis have locked in deals and will have 'substantial roles' in the much discussed sequel. This is no doubt good news for fans of Arnie and Bruce, as they had little screen time in the first film and it sounds like they will be given a lot more opportunities to blow things up this time round. Deadline is reporting The Expendables 2 will pack a slightly larger action star-powered punch this time around as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis won't be resigned to a tiny cameo that lasts about two minutes, but instead "substantial" roles in the sequel.

Deadline's Mike Fleming calls the coming together of Sylvester Stallone, Schwarzenegger and Willis as an "Action Dream Trio." I'm not so sure the dream on that trio is still alive, but it should definitely sell tickets and I'm interested in seeing what they are able to put together.

This time around Stallone will not direct as he did the 2010 original which went on to gross over $275 million worldwide. Simon West (Con Air) will instead take the helm on the film which will begin filming in October for an already slated August 17, 2012. Previous cast members Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews and Jet Li are also expected to return.

The internet has been buzzing with casting rumours for The Expendables 2 for quite a while now, but despite the fact that the movie is aiming for an August 2012 release, we still have yet to hear any sort of official announcement on the matter. The film's producers have reportedly been pursuing just about every action star imaginable, with names like Jean-Claude Van Damme, John Travolta, Chuck Norris, Donnie Yen, Taylor Lautner, Christian Slater, Christopher Lambert, and even Nicolas Cage all mentioned as possibilities. Sadly the most exciting aspect of The Expendables franchise, well at least we can say it was with the first movie anyway, is the casting process. We ate up every minute of Sylvester Stallone’s original recruitment for his homage to 80′s Canon Home video fare but alas the movie we had in our heads for what a Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Eric Roberts, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Bruce Willis film might look like, well he couldn’t match it. Simon West, director of Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and The Mechanic, will be directing the sequel which will presumably carry the same cast as the first. Lionsgate has hired Simon West to direct The Expendables 2, the sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s action hero ensemble movie that grossed $274.5 million worldwide last year. The second is already set for August 17, 2012.

64-year-old Stallone, who directed, co-wrote, produced, and starred in the original, announced his decision in March to limit his involvement for the sequel while he focuses on other projects (e.g. Walter Hill’s Headshot). Sly will still produce and star in the movie, but writing duties have been passed to David Agosto and Ken Kaufman (Space Cowboys) and now the director’s chair to West.

Aside from Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and Jet Li are expected to return, as is Bruce Willis in an expanded role (a villain?), according to Deadline. Arnold Schwarzenegger was widely considered to wind up a part of the cast after his return to acting, but his illegitimate child...

Lionsgate has finally found a director for its upcoming The Expendables 2 in Simon West (Con Air), Deadline reports. West recently directed the remake of The Mechanic with Expendables star Jason Statham.

Sylvester Stallone co-wrote and directed the action star-filled, first Expendables, which was released last year and grossed $274 million worldwide. Stallone opted against directing the sequel and instead worked on the script with screenwriters Ken Kaufman (Space Cowboys) and David Agosto. What the sequel is about is unknown. A plot synopsis was released in May via the sequel's production company — which had the Expendables avenging the death of an old friend — but Stallone refuted the synopsis, announcing that the "real storyline will be forthcoming."

Those details could come to light soon now that West has been hired. Lionsgate has already set an August 17, 2012 release date for Expendables 2, and production is set to start this summer, meaning that plot details can't be far behind.

Well, guess what, it looks that Sylvester Stallone will not be the director of The Expendables 2 after all. So relax!

I’m sure you’ll all agree that he’s not a bad choice at all, especially when it comes to action genre. I mean, he’s the man behind titles like Con Air, The Mechanic and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

As you probably already know, the sequel is expected to have back an original cast that includes Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, Jet Li and possibly Bruce Willis.

Unfortunately, at this moment still no words on The Expendables 2 possible plot. Actually, we posted synopsis released by NuImage but Stallone says that it’s wrong, and that a real, updated storyline will soon be released.

The hiring of Simon West to direct The Expendables 2 makes a lot of sense, I suppose. He’s an undeniable hack director, whose films like Con Air and The Mechanic make a lot of noise, are incredibly stupid, cynical, throw way too many dollars on mindless explosions and apart from a knowing B-movie energy, there’s few things to really recommend about them.

Which is pretty much how we summed up the 2010 disappointment – The Expendables, so fitting he will helm the sequel.

Deadline say Stallone has chosen West to direct, with filming to shoot this summer – though I’m can’t help but feel that will be pushed back with Stallone and director Walter Hill (who should have made the Expendables 2 really) readying on a new actioner which films later this month.

Briefly: I know there are people who really like the films of Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider, The Mechanic) and I expect that audience will be thrilled that he is directing the sequel to The Expendables. Director Simon West may not have the greatest track record in the world, but he did make one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies ever: Con Air. Stacked with an awesome ensemble cast, the movie is absolutely ridiculous but it's also made of pure energy and fun. I can't help to be a little excited to to a sequel to Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. As terrible as the the script was for the first film I still had a lot of fun watching all these action stars kicking ass and blowing shit up. 

The Expendables 2 is gearing up for production, and has been given the release date of August 17th 2012. Nu Image / Millennium Films and Lionsgate are producing the film and they've released a full detailed plot synopsis for the film up at The Cannes Film Festival, and it does contain *spoilers*.

Stallone did not write the script, and he will not direct the film, but he will be back to reprise his role as Barney. The screenplay is being written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman, a director for the film has yet to be announced.

Lionsgate set a August 17, 2012, release date for The Expendables 2 last month, despite the sequel lacking a director, and with Sylvester Stallone still working on a script with screenwriters Ken Kaufman (Space Cowboys) and David Agosto. Progress has been made, however, as a early teaser poster was discovered at the Canned Film Festival by First Showing.

The report offered no details on the sequel, however, production company Nu Image already has a plot synopsis (via ComingSoon) for Expendables 2. [Update: Stallone has contacted fansite StalloneZone to say that the following synopsis is not correct and that the "real storyline will be forthcoming" despite this coming from the production company's website.]

The Expendables are back and this time it's personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They're not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement.

As silly as it was I enjoyed watching the first film, and was entertained. The script was very weak, but since Stallone isn't writting it this time around maybe that will be a little better.

After months of rumors and playful banter from Sylvester Stallone, the action star has been confirmed by way of a close friend to be joining the upcoming action movie sequel. Van Damme's longtime collaborator, writer-director Sheldon Lettich, gave word that Muscles from Brussels will indeed be playing one of the film's antagonists along with Bruce Willis; who is said to be it's main villain. Gordon and the Whale recently visited Brian Tyler at his studio and interviewed the composer about his work on Fast Five, currently playing in theaters. Tyler also talks about his work process, how his career developed over the last decade and some of his frequent collaborators including Justin Lin, Jonathan Liebesman and Sylvester Stallone. Back in March, a report surfaced that Sylvester Stallone would be stepping down as director of The Expendables 2. Then, earlier this month, a new story revealed that he would actually come back to direct, since his new acting project Headshot had lost director Wayne Kramer. It was believed that Sylvester Stallone was returning to direct The Expendables 2 because Headshot was going into limbo. However, Walter Hill is now directing Headshot, and the project is once again moving forward with Sylvester Stallone and Thomas Jane attached to star.
