Top of the mornin’ to you! It may not be St. Patrick’s Day, but it’s never a bad time to watch Leprechaun movies, and we here at Arrow in the Head decided to go back over the whole Leprechaun franchise to rank them from worst to first. The Leprechaun Movies Ranked list can be seen below – check it out and let us know how you would rank the movies!

Leprechaun: Origins (2014)

This is appalling. Director Zach Lipovsky, writer Harris Wilkinson, and WWE Studios were given the chance to make a new Leprechaun movie, they cast a professional wrestler (Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl) as the title character, and then they just churned out a dull monster movie. I don’t know how anyone involved thought this was a good idea (“You know what we should do? Take everything people liked about Leprechaun and remove it!”) or how Leprechaun: Origins made it through production.

Whether you love or hate them, remakes have been around for a long time, and they’re not slowing down anytime soon. An update on The Crow is set to arrive this summer, with Hollywood’s version of Speak No Evil not far behind, just as two upcoming examples.

While not all remakes can hold a candle to the original, there’s been no shortage of fantastic movies that reworked genre favorites in thrilling new ways. Some of which even managed to eclipse the original classics, like 1986’s The Fly or 1982’s The Thing.

This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to horror remakes that set themselves apart from the source material, either through expanded storytelling or heightened, visceral horror.

The erratic Leprechaun franchise is not known for sticking with a single concept for too long. The namesake (originally played by Warwick Davis) has gone to L.A., Las Vegas, space, and the ‘hood (not once but twice). And after an eleven-year holiday since the Davis era ended, the character received a drastic makeover in a now-unmentionable reboot. The critical failure of said film would have implied it was time to pack away the green top hat and shillelagh, and say goodbye to the nefarious imp. Instead, the Leprechaun series tried its luck again.

The general consensus for the Leprechaun films was never positive, and the darker yet blander Leprechaun: Origins certainly did not sway opinions. Just because the 2014 installment took itself seriously did not mean viewers would. After all, creator Mark Jones conceived a gruesome horror-comedy back in the early nineties, and that format is what was expected of any future ventures.

Syfy is bringing us an updated classic, and we couldn't be more excited!

The '80s were all about cheesy horror, and The Slumber Party Massacre is about as cheesy as it gets.

Thankfully, some things never get old -- horror, cheese, and coeds among them.

This movie has deep roots that appeal to the best TV Fanatics around, as the original was directed by Amy Holden Jones, who you know as The Resident showrunner.

This time out, hot on the heels of SurrealEstate, Danishka Esterhazy directs, so we know the remake is in good hands.

Airing on Saturday, October 16 at 9/8c, this new contemporary twist-filled reimagining of the 1982 slasher cult classic arrives just in time for Halloween.

Horror cult classic The Slumber Party Massacre was released in 1982. And while it was not exactly lining up the Oscar nominations, it fit in perfectly with the slasher craze at the time. Which also included other bloodbath movie staples such as Friday 13th, Black Christmas, Halloween and more. Now SyFy and Shout! Studios are preparing their own reimagined interpretation of the Amy Holden-Jones gorefest, and we have your first look.

The horror redo will be debuting at the Cannes Film Market and has therefore had its first look released in advance in the form of a photo of the assumed participants of this particular slumber party looking through a window. We can only assume that this is going to see some shadowy figure lurking outside waiting to bring the massacre part of the title to light.

Studios' new horror flick Slumber Party Massacre. Shout! still retains the rights for North America but everything else is up for grabs this weeks at Cannes Marche du Film starting tomorrow. Danishka Esterhazy directs reimagining of 1982 Roger Corman slasher film.

Shout! Studios has brought on Toronto genre specialist Raven Banner to handle international sales at Cannes Marché on Slumber Party Massacre, a reimagining of Roger Corman’s 1982 slasher film.

The Shout! Studios and Blue Ice Pictures film takes place at a sleepover where the arrival of a power drill-wielding psychopath turns the gathering into a bloodbath.

Danishka Esterhazy directed the completed film from a screenplay by Suzanne Keilly. Hannah Gonera, Frances Sholto-Douglas, Mila Rayne, Alex McGregor, and Reze-Tiana Wessels star.

Bob Emmer, Garson Foos, Jordan Fields, and Brent Haynes are executive producers.

A 1980s cult horror classic is getting the remake treatment, and we'll be seeing it sooner rather than later. Shout! Studios is set to release its remake of The Slumber Party Massacre on Syfy later this year. No specific release date has been set at this time. However, the movie has already wrapped filming.

According to a new report, the Slumber Party Massacre Remake was directed by Danishka Esterhazy (The Banana Splits Movie), with a script by Suzanne Keilly (Ash vs. Evil Dead). Plot details largely remain under wraps but it is described as a contemporary reimagining of the original 1982 slasher flick. Brent Haynes, Shout's Head of Original Content Development, had this to say about it.

Exclusive: Shout! Studios has found a sleepover home for Slumber Party Massacre, a contemporary reimagining of the cult 1982 feature film from Roger Corman and Amy Holden Jones. The new pic, directed by The Banana Splits Movie and Vagrant Queen helmer Danishka Esterhazy from a screenplay by Ash Vs. Evil Dead‘s Suzanne Keilly, will debut later this year on Syfy.

Hannah Gonera, Frances Sholto-Douglas, Mila Rayne, Alex McGregor and Reze-Tiana Wessels star in the update, which wrapped last month in South Africa. Shout! Studios, which developed and executive produced will handle the movie’s worldwide sales and distribution across multiple platforms after bringing in Blue Ice Pictures to serve as producers.

The news comes after Shout! acquired the New Horizon Picture library, which encompasses 270 Roger Corman films.

Anything – and I mean *anything* – Steven Kostanski’s Leprechaun Returns trotted out as a Celtic franchise continuation was going to outshine 2014’s Leprechaun Origins. You could have forced Warwick Davis’ successor Linden Porco to recite ninety minutes of Lucky Charms product placement and it’d have been an improvement. Thankfully, there’s more to this revival than “hearts, stars, and horseshoes” limericks. How *much* more will depend on your B-grade mileage, given kills and rhyming zingers are at a premium instead of collective packaging. It’s the practical showcase you’d expect from effects guru Kostanski (The Void/Astron-6 productions), hoping to distract from a goopy cauldron of body parts and shallow cinematic depth.

Leprechaun Returns is the eighth movie in the Leprechaun horror movie franchise. We’ve got a new trailer for the movie for you to watch that sees the return of the villainous and twisted Leprechaun as he terrorizes a group of sorority girls.

This is one of those silly horror franchises that I’ve enjoyed watching and it all started in 1993 with Jennifer Aniston, who was just starting her acting career. It also starred Warwick Davis as the Leprechaun.

The Syfy channel has announced their new film Leprechaun Returns and they also released a teaser trailer for the film for fans of the horror franchise to enjoy. 

I enjoyed the first film when it came out. It was just a silly horror film that pitted Jennifer Aniston in her feature film debut, against a twisted killer Leprechaun played by Warwick Davis. This new film is set 25 years after the events of the original 1993 movie. 

The story follows the maniacal Leprechaun accidentally revived in a modern day world at the hands of unwitting sorority girls.

The film was scripted by Suzanne Keilly (Ash vs Evil Dead) and directed by Steven Kostanski (The Void). It stars Taylor Spreitler (Kevin Can Wait) as Lila, Pepi Sonuga (Ash vs Evil Dead) as Katie, Sai Bennett (Lake Placid: Legacy) as Rose, and Linden Porco (Cult of Chucky) as the murdering Leprechaun.

SyFy has tapped Canadian filmmaker Steven Kostanski to helm the next installment of the popular Leprechaun horror series. Kostanski is a member of the Astron-6 filmmaking collective who we've covered a lot over the years here as well as a writer/directors of last year's The Void.

The new film is titles Leprechaun Returns and we've even got a short teaser below to wet your appetites.

The film is written by Suzanne Keilly who has worked on Ash vs Evil Dead.

Yes, there’s a new “Leprechaun” movie, and yes, you’ll probably watch it if you’re ever channel surfing and see that it’s on. Syfy is reviving the tongue-in-cheek horror franchise with “Leprechaun Returns,” the eighth movie in the series and the first since’s 2014’s “Leprechaun: Origins.” That reboot was preceded by such revered entries as “Leprechaun 4: In Space” and “Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood,” which is to say that “Returns” has a lot to live up to. Leprechaun: Origins was a terrible, terrible film. We probably don’t need to remind you of that, though. Zach Lipovsky’s carbon-copy creature feature was a slap in the face to horror fans everywhere, dead on arrival mostly thanks to an atrocious screenplay that never once ventured outside the safety of repetition. There wasn’t a single new idea to be found at the end of what was an unintelligible cash-in short on reveals, lacking in death scenes, and heavy on infuriating redundancy.

And while many had all but written off the franchise after its release, and understandably so, there might just be reason to get excited about Leprechaun again, and that’s because Syfy has announced Leprechaun Returns today. Now, before you go ahead and let out a groan, know that this will be a sequel to the 1993 original, picking up 25 years after the events of that film.
