TV Recap: 'Dracula' Episode 108 - 'Come to Die'
Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Jessica De Gouw in Dracula (2013)
Dracula Episode 108

“Come to Die”

Written By: Harley Peyton

Directed By: Brian Kelly

Original Airdate: 10 January 2014

In This Episode…

Jayne and Browning are convinced there is another elder vampire hanging around London. She targets a hooker who admits that it was Dracula who summoned her there. Jayne tries to get the location of his nest. The hooker opts to shoot herself in the head with Jayne’s gun, rather than give up her master. Jayne takes this information to the Order, who doesn’t believe her: Dracula is just a myth, a tale to scare children. Jayne relates the history of “Dracula” to them (and to us): Vlad Tepes served on the council of the Order of the Dragon. He was excommunicated, but the sentence of death was considered inadequate, so they turned to the occult. Dracula, the first vampire, was created - not sired - by the Order of the Dragon.

Dracula, Ep. 1.08, “Come to Die”: Folly and Threat
Dracula, Season 1, Episode 8, “Come to Die”

Written by Harley Peyton

Directed by Brian Kelly

Airs Fridays at 10pm (Et) on NBC

Last week’s episode of Dracula, “Servant to Two Masters”, was one of the freshman series’ best. It successfully mixed the old and new, focused on its strongest characters, and weaved its weaker storylines into existing, better ones.

In re-imagining the classic Bram Stoker story, the show has found a fresh way to present a well-worn story. Van Helsing (Thomas Kretschmann) is now Dracula’s (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) personal doctor and Dracula is now posing as an American business man hell-bent on destroying the mysterious organization that killed his wife. While these things are interesting, Dracula has struggled almost from day one with execution.

“Come to Die” gives us an early flashback...

Grayson has decided to turn his back on his vampirism. He tells a worried Van Helsing that he doesn’t need to feed, and refuses to be a slave to his inhuman desires.

Mina wants to do something to lift the spirits of the patients at the sanitarium. Grayson suggests having a dance, something which Mina’s father is against. He relents, so long as she doesn’t spend a dime from the hospital’s budget.
