Following the release of the Supermantrailer, director James Gunn shared a sweet tribute to Clark Kent/Superman's parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. Played by Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell, the Kents are Clark's adoptive parents who raise him after the young Kryptonian crash lands on Earth, instilling strong morals in the future hero. Superman will star David Corenswet as the lead character, as well as Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabella Merced, Sara Sampaio, and Anthony Carrigan.

James Gunn gave more context to the casting of Superman's parents in the upcoming DC superhero flick. Gunn's Superman reboot includes Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell as Jonathan and Martha Kent, but explained why they are named Ma and Pa Kent instead.

In a Threads post, Gunn reconfirmed the casting of Vince and Howell and explained the origin of Superman's parents' names. While we'd expected James Gunn to cast a couple of big names as Superman's Ma and Pa Kent, the filmmaker instead chose to find two actors he felt embody the characters, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell.

There's still no word on who, if anyone, will play Jor-El (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell remains the rumoured fan favourite) but we're expecting Jonathan and Martha to be a huge part of Clark Kent's story. Here's hoping neither of them meets a tragic end, anyway!

Superman: For All Seasons is one of James Guns inspirations for Superman: Legacy. The story featured Ma and Pa Kent alive, as was the case in post-Crisis canon. Doing this for the Dcu instantly separates the movie from the Dceu, all while avoiding the “dead parent” trope.

Superman: Legacy is the next cinematic take on DC's Man of Steel, and it seems to be pulling from some of his most wholesome and iconic incarnations. These include not only the well-known All-Star Superman, but also Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's Superman for All Seasons. The latter once was a pivotal part of the hero's story, and it points to an element that needs to be reflected in the upcoming DC Universe movie.
