As Aamir Khan turns 60, a slew of his best known films are back in the movie theatres. Ghajini, in some subverted way, is indicative of our traumatic times. The brutal cocksureness with which the villain Ghajini (Pradeep Rawat) murders Kalpana (Asin) and pounds Sanjay Singhania’s (Aamir Khan) head to a memory mess is a telescopic view of what the sociopath can do to civil society. No one is safe from criminal attack. Not even the super-elite like Sanjay Singhania.

Ghajini, produced by Madhu Mantena and directed by A R Murugadoss, is not for the squeamish. Indian actor Vipin Sharma is earning global acclaim for playing a trans character in Dev Patel’s feature directorial debut “Monkey Man.”

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has released an action-packed teaser – described by the producers as a ‘prevue’ – for his upcoming film “Jawan” (“Soldier”).

The film has Khan playing a dual role and features him in several avatars – as a soldier, a bandaged avenger, and also in a bald persona. The teaser features Tamil-language cinema stars Nayanthara (“Annaatthe”), Vijay Sethupathi (“Vikram”) and teases a special appearance from Deepika Padukone (“Pathaan”). The wrestling world has lost another legend with the death of WWE’s “Leaping” Lanny Poffo. The 68-year-old’s cause of death is not known at this time. Poffo, a Canadian-born American citizen, began his wrestling career with the All-South Wrestling Alliance in 1974. He won a Tag-Team Championship alongside his father, Angelo. The younger brother of the late Randy Savage, Poffo’s wrestling career was highlighted by a victory over Hulk Hogan. Despite the star wattage of A-listers Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar, the underwhelming box office performance of “Forrest Gump” adaptation “Laal Singh Chaddha” and “Raksha Bandhan,” respectively, have set the alarm bells ringing in Bollywood.

Both films released on Aug. 11. The date was tailor-made for “Raksha Bandhan,” a film about brother-sister relationships, as it coincided with the festival of Raksha Bandhan, which celebrates siblinghood. Headlined by Kumar, one of India’s most bankable stars, the film, which was made on a budget of approximately 9 million, has collected some 6 million in a week of release, according to industry estimates.

The numbers are starker for “Laal Singh Chaddha.” Khan headlined three of India’s all-time box office champions, including No. 1 “Dangal” (311 million); No. 6 “Secret Superstar” (154 million), by “Laal Singh Chaddha” director Advait Chandan; and No. 7 “Pk” (140 million). In this digital age, where we are constantly checking our device every fifteen minutes, it’s hard to imagine life without it! But superstar Aamir Khan does the unthinkable – The actor has decided to turn off his cell phone till the release of Laal Singh Chaddha.

The decision to forgo his phone stemmed from the fact that the actor felt it constantly interfered with the manner in which he conducts his work.

Hollywood star Tony Jaa is a big fan of Bollywood action films, and considers Lord Hanuman a superhero. The martial arts superstar says that given a chance, he would like to bring the character of the Indian mythological world alive on the big screen.

Actress Tisca Chopra is gearing up to start shooting her debut directorial feature film, a murder mystery, later this year. The actress, who has earlier ventured into scripting, direction and production of shorts films, is charged up to take on storytelling in the feature format.

"I guess a feature film was just waiting to happen, since I write as well. This came about quite naturally. I am really excited. It is a nice, tight murder mystery told in a very unusual style," said Tisca Chopra.

"The script for my directorial feature has been ready for almost a year now and we were ready to shoot in January last year. I hope to shoot it this year in winter because the story is such that it needs to be shot in winter. So, fingers crossed we will shoot it this year," she adds.

Filmmaker John Matthew Matthan says his upcoming film Sarfarosh 2 is dedicated to Central Reserve Police Force (Crpf) personnel.

Matthan shot to Bollywood fame and also won the National Award for his 1999 superhit Sarfarosh. The film marked his directorial debut, and starred Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan and Sonali Bendre.

Talking about the script of the sequel, Matthan said, "I wrote the script of 'Sarfarosh 2' about five to six times, before finalizing it. When I wrote the script, I looked at its criticism and kept it aside. After five to six months, I started writing it again and came across new potholes. This is actually the fifth script of 'Sarfarosh 2', which has been finalized. You have to have good friends who are critical of you."

The latest on the industry grapevine is that actor Chiranjeevi has been brought on board as the narrator for the film. According to reliable sources, Chiranjeevi will lend his voice to introduce the characters of Jr Ntr and Ram Charan for the Telugu version of the film. Aamir Khan is believed to have been signed on to introduce the same characters for the Hindi version. The makers are yet to make an official announcement. However, the news has been making the rounds on social media platforms.
