Subhash K Jha looks back at Anupam Kher’s directorial debut, Om Jai Jagdish, which released in July 2002. Interestingly, his new film Tanvi The Great is hitting the big screen now.

Om Jai Jagdish is as giddying and utopian as family sagas in films go. Three brothers Om (Anil Kapoor), Jai (Fardeen Khan) and Jagdish (Abhishek Bachchan), under the supervision of an ever-patient mother (Waheeda Rehman), try to transcend the inherent limitations of such families, but only superficially. To his credit Kher checks the narrative from lapsing into excessive melodrama. But a film cannot thrive on that alone.

In his determination to be mellow, rather than melodramatic, Kher denudes the narrative of all vigour and vitality.The audience might pine for high drama when world of the spunky mother Saraswati and her idealistic elder son Om begins to come apart. Middle son Jai’s worldly-wise wife (Urmila Matondkar) weans him away from home.

Amidst multiple stories of financial crises in the shooting of producer Firoz Nadiadwala , director Ahmed Khan spoke exclusively to this writer about why the project, Welcome to the Jungle, is delayed.

“We’ve shot two lengthy schedules. We were supposed to shoot in Kashmir in June for a third long schedule. Then the movie would have been almost complete. But then the Pahalgam tragedy happened. The Kashmir schedule had to be cancelled,” reveals Ahmed.

They are now looking for an alternative location.

Says Ahmed, “It could be any similar hinterland. We may shoot in Kulu or Himachal Pradesh. But going back to Kashmir is not feasible. We have to plan the schedule from scratch in another location. The dates of thirty-six actors have to be co-ordinated again. It’s not easy. We are on it.”

The song ‘Rabba’ from the Akshay Kumar and Rakul Preet Singh-starrer ‘Cuttputlli’ was released on Tuesday. It presents Akshay Kumar in a dapper avatar dancing to the upbeat tune as Rakul sets the stage on fire with her moves in a red dress.

The song has been choreographed by Prince and directed by Ahmed Khan, and has an interesting hook for the audiences to latch onto. British composer Dr Zeus and Indian playback singer Sukhwinder Singh have gone behind the mic to lend their voices to the track, the music of which has been composed by Zeus himself. The lyrics are penned by Omar Malik.

Tiger posted a string of videos on Instagram. In the clips, he is seen doing high jumps.

Tiger will soon start working on the action drama "Baaghi 4", as well as the sequel to his debut film, "Heropanti". He will be shooting across 25 countries in all for the two films. The shooting of "Heropanti 2" is expected to start in December.
