The medical condition of acclaimed classical singer Rashid Khan, who has been suffering from prostrate cancer and admitted to a private hospital since last month in Kolkata, turned critical on Tuesday after which he was put on ventilator support.

The singer, 55, of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, had undergone treatment at Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. However, at a later stage, he preferred to continue with his treatment in Kolkata only.

Sources close to him said that since the singer was admitted to the private hospital last month, he started responding to the treatment, and a team of doctors attending on him was happy to note the improvement in the medical condition.

The sources said that despite ailment, there was hardly any change in Khan’s routine, especially with regard to his daily practice of classical music in the hospital in Kolkata.

Deepti, who played for Up Warriorz in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (Wpl), is now added on the stellar list of nominations for the inaugural Wbbl overseas draft, which has attracted 122 players from 19 countries. Kabul, Aug 27 (Ians) Karim Janat, Najibullah Zadran and Sharafuddin Ashraf have made a return to Afghanistan’s 17-member squad for the Asia Cup, to be played from August 30 to September 17 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Janat played his only Odi for Afghanistan in February 2017 against Zimbabwe and hasn’t featured in the format since then. But Janat has made appearances in T20Is, including taking a hat-trick against Bangladesh, and also made his Test debut this year.

New Delhi, Aug 24 (Ians) Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has reportedly made himself available for the 2023-24 Big Bash League (Bbl) season, relenting on his threat to boycott the tournament.

In January of this year, the star of-spinner threatened to quit Bbl after Cricket Australia’s (CA) decision to withdraw from a three-match Odi series against Afghanistan due Taliban’s ban on girls’ education in the country.

Following CA’s decision to not compete against Afghanistan in the scheduled Odi series, Rashid Khan left the 2022-23 Bbl season midway.

“I am really disappointed to hear that Australia have pulled out of the series to play us in March. If playing Afghanistan is so uncomfortable for Australia, then I wouldn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable with my presence in the Bbl. Hambantota, Aug 22 (Ians) Ahead of the Asia Cup and the subsequent World Cup India, Pakistan pacers came up with a strong performance in the 1st Odi against Afghanistan here on Tuesday.

The Pakistan pacers shared eight wickets between them as they bowled Afghanistan out for 59 in the first Odi of the three-match series.

Haris Rauf (5-18) took a career-best haul while Shaheen Shah Afridi (2-9) and Naseem Shah (1-12) also hit top gear in Pakistan’s first Odi outside home in 2023.
