It is another week, and Jewel Thief has created history as the most-watched Indian film on Netflix already! Saif Ali Khan’s heist drama is trending at the number 1 spot in four countries on Netflix in the top 10 non-English films of the week – India, Bangladesh, Maldives, and Pakistan. However, it has taken a spot in the top 10 non-English films this week in not 10 or 20 but 60 countries worldwide, including Hong Kong, Israel, Singapore, UAE, Morocco, Egypt, Australia, Jamaica, Vietnam, Brazil, Colombia, and others.

In the second week, the heist drama, also starring Kunal Kapoor and Jaideep Ahlawat, has managed to bring 71.2% higher views than the lifetime viewership of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 on Netflix. Meanwhile, Saif Ali Khan’s film has also surpassed Dhoom Dhaam, the most-watched original film to date.

Saif Ali Khan has set the record straight after a clip from a recent Netflix India video sparked chatter about him apologising to his son Taimur for making him watch Adipurush. In the segment, Saif was seen speaking to his Jewel Thief co-star Jaideep Ahlawat, where he mentioned Taimur giving him a look during the film. While it led many to believe the young boy had seen the movie and didn’t enjoy it, Saif now offers the full story.

Acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan is reportedly set to make a Hindi remake of Mohanlal’s Malayalam thriller, Oppam, with Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, reports Filmfare. The original Oppam (2016), starring Mohanlal, was scripted and directed by Priyadarshan. It was based on a story by Govind Vijayan. But how many of you knew the film was inspired by two other films, one from Hollywood and another from Hallyuwood (Korea)?

At least, that’s what Wikipedia and other sources claim. And we can’t blame these sources, because Priyadarshan has a history of adapting Hollywood films. To determine whether Oppam was a direct copy or simply inspired, we watched all three films: Oppam, the Hollywood film Cape Fear (1991), and the Korean film Blind (2011). Let’s start our analysis with Cape Fear. Notably, this film doesn’t feature any blind characters.

In a wide-ranging fireside chat with Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan at Mumbai’s World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (Waves) conference, Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos said that theatrical distribution and streaming can successfully coexist, particularly in India’s “fan-centric” entertainment ecosystem.

Sarandos stirred up controversy online by calling the movie theater model “outdated” in a recent interview, to which Rian Johnson responded saying that he wants the next “Knives Out” movie, “Wake Up Dead Man,” to be released in as many movie theaters as possible.

In Mumbai, Sarandos said, “I was asked recently in New York if I thought cinemas were outdated, and I said, for some people, for sure. I was being interviewed in Manhattan, there’s a movie theater on every corner – you could just walk and go see a movie. I grew up in a small town in Phoenix, Arizona… I had to drive 45 minutes to go see a movie.
