Tanushree Dutta On 18 Years Of Raqeeb
Image
Subhash K Jha revisits Raqeeb and we hear from star Tanushree Dutta as they look back at the 2007 film.

Raqeeb is so busy trying to shock us with its high-voltage wantonness, it forgets to pause for refuelling its creative motors. The narrative moves at a breakneck speed, creating a highly charged sexually-defiant version of Abbas-Mustan’s Humraaz about the benevolent husband, the adulterous wife, and her amoral lover. Jimmy Shergil sports theatrical rhetorics, and flowing henna-coloured hair that really doesn’t suit him.

There are three heroes, one heroine, two item songs, three romantic songs, three attempted murders, and a couple of funerals. There’s also a rather vulgar item song by starlet Sherlyn Chopra.

The film’s only main female lead, Tanushree Dutta, impresses the naïve millionaire Rahul Khanna, claiming to enjoy Shakespeare. Sure, we believe you. As much as we believe in the fast-paced film’s perverse quadrangle,...

‘Leila’ review: Huma Qureshi’s dystopian drama suffers due to a hurried screenplay
NetflixWhile the first two episodes are riveting, the saga loses its shine from there on – confused whether it should be a science dystopia or a social dystopia.Krishna SripadaLeila comprises six episodes, of runtimes varying between 40 to 50 mins on average. Created by Urmi Juvekar, the series – based on Prayaag Akbar’s novel of the same name – has been directed by Deepa Mehta, Shanker Raman and Pavan Kumar. It stars Huma Qureshi in the lead, with Siddharth playing a notable role. Leila, for reasons hard to fathom, sets the timeline in 2047. It takes digs at the current political situation, using a fictional land called Aryavarta ruled by one Mr Joshi, who is ubiquitous, like the Big Brother of 1984, his posters everywhere. The people and children of Aryavarta are brainwashed, constantly parroting the words fed to them about how Aryavarta is their mother – with an air of Brave New World, borrowing gloomy...

Who’s Hot Who’s Not: Ht Style Awards 2015
The who’s who of fashion and cinema attended Hindustan Times Style Awards last week and brought their A-game to the red carpet. Did their efforts pay off? Read on to find out!

Aditi Rao Hydari

Aditi opted for a designer that stands for all things sexy, Deme by Gabriella. And she pulls off the look with great confidence, which by far is the most important accessory to wear when wearing Deme. Love the tousled hair and Outhouse necklace. Here’s hoping this new more confident Aditi on the red carpet is here to say.

Sizzling hot!

Amrya Dastur

Amrya went all red with a Hema Kaul gown, red lips to compliment and a classic up do. Nothing much to fault with this look except perhaps the gown sleeve length.

Hot

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Mrs. Bachchan continues her winning streak on the red carpet, this time with a Toni Maticevski gown.

Kick starting the season was Sansui Stardust Awards which is known for honouring the new and upcoming talents of the industry. The red carpet on the night so some yays and some major nays. Neutrals seems to be the shade of the night with only a few stepping it out boldly in brighter color schemes.

Amrita Rao

She’s a rare sighting and unfortunately doesn’t always choose attires that do justice to her. She Schön by Sakshee Pradhan gown. The gown itself has featured quite well on the ramp on Anushka and in catalogue shoots however Miss Rao didn’t let the gown reach its potential by opting for a very run-of-the-mill styling.

Verdict: Not Hot...
