Arrow Video‘s October line-up includes 4K Ultra HD editions of In the Mouth of Madness, Spawn, and Ms. 45.

In the Mouth of Madness will be released on 4K Uhd on October 7.

The 1994 cosmic horror film is directed by master of horror John Carpenter and written by Michael De Luca (Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare).

Hello again, dear readers! We have a brand new batch of home media releases coming our way this week, which includes a few classic John Carpenter films getting some 4K love, several recent indie horror hits, and more. If you’ve been looking to upgrade your copies of Prince of Darkness or They Live, Scream Factory has put together stunning 4K Uhd releases for both films, and if you haven’t had a chance to catch either Spiral (2020) or The Cleansing Hour on Shudder, now is your chance to catch up with both of those movies as well.

Scream Factory just can't get enough of John Carpenter's politically charged sci-fi classic They Live and they're celebrating in a brand new way. For the first time in the U.S. & Canada, They Live is being released in a 2-Disc Uhd/Blu-ray format nationwide and will be available on our site and other retailers. Release date is Dec 8th. It will include all previous bonus features from the prior 2012 Collector's Edition release.

For the first time ever, a limited edition 8" inch Neca - N.E.C.A action figure of Keith David's "Frank" is a reality and only available exclusively from Scream Factory. "Frank" as portrayed by actor Keith David, It's a perfect complement to Neca's "John Nada"/Roddy Piper action figure (available elsewhere in Nov 2020), "Frank" comes with two accessory machine guns, and is dressed in a purple shirt, khaki pants, and special sunglasses to see right through the aliens' disguise.

One of Scream Factory's first Blu-ray releases was John Carpenter's They Live back in 2012. Gary B. Kibbe, who served as John Carpenter's cinematographer on seven films, including They Live, In the Mouth of Madness and Escape From L.A., has died. He was 79.

Kibbe died March 9 at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, his daughter Cheri Faeth told The Hollywood Reporter.

On Twitter, Carpenter called Kibbe "a kind man [and] a great collaborator."

He was a camera operator on Halloween II (1981) and Big Trouble in Little China (1986), co-written and directed by Carpenter, respectively.

It's a great time to be a fan of John Carpenter. The horror legend just finished the score for the upcoming Halloween movie, which he also served as an executive producer on, and now we have learned that The Fog, Prince of Darkness, They Live, and Escape From New York are all getting 4K restorations. If that wasn't enough, all four of the films will be getting theatrical re-releases this fall as well, giving horror fans a truly special Halloween treat.

It was previously reported that Studiocanal was restoring The Fog, but now it has been revealed that Prince of Darkness, They Live, and Escape from New York are getting in on the action as well. Each film has been restored using the original negatives, along with color grading that was approved by cinematographers Gary B. Kibbe and Dean Cundey. Poor John Carpenter. It’s John Carpenter’s birthday this week, so of course we gave a listen to one of the few commentary tracks he’s done that we haven’t covered yet. (And now we know why.)

1. Carpenter himself refers to this as the third film in his unofficial “Apocalypse Trilogy” which also includes The Thing and Prince of Darkness.

3. The asylum exterior/main hall is actually a water reclamation plant off Lake Ontario, while the basement cells were built on a set.

They Live was John Carpenter’s follow up to Prince of Darkness and continued his nihilistic streak of polemics against the establishment, providing a darkly comic science fiction tale. This movie revealed that there is much more to Carpenter than just horror and is an underrated film loaded with social commentary from a great director at the top of his game.

The fine folks over at Shout! Factory have done a great job with this presentation, including a nice set of bonus features to please any Carpenter fan, so put on your sunglasses and see the film for what it really is.
