The Summer TV season is commonly known as a place where the in season weaklings are sent to die.

There were several new shows on the roster and some of them surprised us a lot. There were also shows that were hot last year but just couldn't match the same levels of success again.

It happens.

One of summer’s guiltiest pleasures is no more.

ABC has decided to pull the plug on Mistresses, making the Season 4 finale, which aired on Sept. 6th, now a series finale.

Executive producer Rina Mimoun had told TVLine that she’d hoped for one more season to wrap things up, “There’d be some new hot messes in the mix, and we’d be moving back toward the kind of racy romp that Mistresses was when it began.”

Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen with Mistresses finding the end of the road long before the characters were ready to get out of the car.

That romp included everything from husbands back from the dead, affairs, accidents, threesomes, babies, and murder. The show was a soapy roller coaster ride from beginning to end.

The show was originally based on the U.K. series by the same name but took on a life all its own.

ABC confirms that “Mistresses” is “not being picked up for a 5th season.” Its finale episode aired Tuesday, drawing in 2.6 million viewers and a 0.6 rating. Based on the hit U.K. television series of the same name, “Mistresses” was a provocative drama about the scandalous lives of a sexy and sassy group of girlfriends, each on their own path to self-discovery. The affair continues. The fourth season of ABC's Mistresses TV series premieres Monday, May 30, 2016 at 10:00pm Et/Pt. Mistresses stars Jennifer Esposito as Calista Raines, Jes Macallan as Joss Carver, Yunjin Kim as Karen Kim, and Rochelle Aytes as April Malloy.

In season four, Tabrett Bethell joins the series as Kate. The cast of Mistresses also includes Brett Tucker as Harry Davis and Rob Mayes as Marc. Rina Mimoun, Kj Steinberg, Robert Sertner, Douglas Rae, and Josh Reims executive produce.

ABC’s summer sudser has cast TV vet Jerry O’Connell (We Are Men) as the manny for Yunjin Kim’s beautifully disastrous doctor, TVLine has learned exclusively.

While O’Connell’s character Robert — who moonlights as an actor — will initially be in charge of changing diapers and locating lost binkies, we hear there’s a possibility that inappropriate love (aka the only kind we really want to see on Mistresses) could eventually follow.

Can someone please move that Virgin Mary statue lingering in the background of Dr. Karen Kim’s group counseling session for married couples? (Unless, of course, she happens to be Our Lady of Hot Honeyed Wrecks.)

In the following exclusive sneak peek of Thursday’s Mistresses (9/8c on ABC), Yunjin Kim’s alter ego is midway through answering a question about marital intimacy when she gets unexpectedly flummoxed by a flashback to her night of moodily lit, scantily clad passion with new (and very married) pals Vivian and Alec.

For those of you who are dying to know what Savannah Davis (Alyssa Milano) will do about her two men and a baby or who got shot at Karen Kim's (Yunjin Kim) house on the Season 1 finale of "Mistresses," you're in luck! The show will be back next year.

ABC has renewed the summer soapy drama for a second season, to air next summer. There is no word yet as to how many episodes will air. Season 1 featured 13 episodes over the course of the summer, with a two-week hiatus due to the "Bachelorette" finale and the Cma music festival.

The show averaged roughly 4 million viewers per episode and was the summer's no. 2 scripted series after "Under the Dome." It aired simultaneously in Canada during the U.S. broadcast and debuted in July in the U.K. It will debut Sept. 30 in Australia.

It's the Mistresses season 1 finale and "I Choose You." By that I mean I choose Mistresses for a season 2 pickup because this show has had me yelling at my TV screen (and scaring my husband on occasion) all summer long.

Did anyone else get nervous when they saw that old T-Bird or am I the only viewer who's a bit of a nut about car safety? I mean, who decided that a lap belt was a good idea for a pregnant woman? The whole trip had disaster written all over it even if I hadn't already seen the previews.

The car accident looked nasty, as did Savi's face in the aftermath. Kudos to the makeup department for making it all look so real. You usually don't see that on network television.

Poor Joss got mostly back-burnered as she reacted to everyone else's drama. I was a little surprised she waited...

"Mistresses" came to a stunning conclusion Monday night (Sept. 9), when the show gave us some answers and left us with two intense cliffhangers. Don't keep reading if you don't want to be spoiled.

In the main plot of the finale, Savannah is in a car accident, which brings Joss, April, Harry, Dominic and Paul to the hospital (Karen is not there, we'll get to that). Harry realizes he has to call Dominic because Harry opened the paternity results -- the baby is Dom's.

But it takes a life-and-death scare for Savannah for Harry to realize he loves her and doesn't care who the baby's father is. Meanwhile, Savannah lets Dominic into her life by letting him into her hospital room and placing his hand on her tummy. He too proclaims his love for her.

And just when we're about to find out who Savi wished the surprise birthday flowers were from,...

We interrupt your regularly scheduled melodrama – unapologetically drunk, mentally unstable Woman Scorned pointing a revolver at the Sexy-Stupid Psychiatrist who carried on a lengthy affair with her late husband, then bedded her emotionally unstable son — to bring you one of the most delicious retorts in modern television history.

Simply put, "When One Door Closes…" had me wanting to slam one out of sheer frustration.

Let's start with April, one of the Mistresses who made me want to throw things at my television...

Lucy disappeared from school and April was understandably frantic. Her first thought was the Paul had grabbed her and that was surely more comforting than some of the alternatives. At least she could be fairly certain Paul wouldn't hurt the girl.

But when it turned out that Lucy simply took off to see a concert and April didn't even ground the girl, I was blown away. This isn't the first time Lucy's pulled this prank. I know she's had a lot to deal with, but does that mean there shouldn't be consequences?

That therapist might want to charge extra. She has no idea what's heading her way.

I could understand Paul wanting to stick around for his daughter.

Everyone was looking for "Full Disclosure" this week on Mistresses. But be careful what you wish for, people. It just might bite back.

All four of the lovely ladies debated how much truth to tell. Let's start with the most self destructive...

Dr. Karen Kim, who's spent this entire season lying through her perfect pearly whites, chose a legal deposition to tell the truth. Never mind that doing so went against every word of her high priced attorney's advice.

The Us version of sexy and soapy British drama series Mistresses launches in the UK on TLC tonight.

Digital Spy caught up with one the show's leading stars, former Lost actress Yunjin Kim, for a quick-fire Q&A.

Had you seen or heard of the UK Mistresses when you signed up for the show?

"I saw the first episode right before my audition. I wanted to get a sense of what the show was all about. It was so good, I finished watching all of season one in one day! Us Mistresses follow some of the storyline from the original show, but our writers put a fresh spin on many of the storylines."

What can you tell us about your character Karen Rhodes and how she fits in the show?

"In the Us Mistresses, we changed the character Karen Rhodes to Karen Kim after I got cast. Karen Kim is...

Some of Tom Grey's last words to his son were that "passion makes life worth living."

While that may ring true, it also comes with the risk of consequences. "A Kiss is Just a Kiss?" proved that nothing these Mistresses do is risk free.

After last week's at-home pregnancy test, Savi ran to her Obgyn, which gave me pause. Wasn't going to the doctor who has been counseling her and her husband for months a huge risk if she was looking to keep this quiet? Unless Savi specifically told her doc not to say anything to Harry (which would be awkward), the good doctor might give Harry her congratulations if she were ever to run into him.

So I was completely relieved when she sought out another physician for the paternity test. I can't imagine how long the three weeks will seem while she waits for the results.

The pilot for Mistresses will undoubtedly draw comparisons to the HBO series Sex and the City. Four girlfriends traversing the complicated world of relationships, only this time the setting is sunny southern California instead of the clubs and fashions of New York City.

Although both shows have their similarities, Mistresses - a remake of a UK series - feels a little more mature. Perhaps it's because half of this gorgeous foursome starts out having already taken the leap into married life.

The women of Mistresses are dealing with the consequences of infidelity, sometimes their own, sometimes done to them... and those consequences aren't always what you'll expect.

Alyssa Milano plays Savannah (Savi) Davis, the central character of our group. Savi and super-hot husband Harry are trying to make a baby and it's taking it's toll. Nothing ruins a couples sex life quicker than taking temperatures and counting days.

But when...

ABC‘s Mistresses aims for UK gold, but we all know the dangers involved with the “Americanization” of British television. For every The Office, there are four or five Couplings. There’s even a show (Episodes) based on the often misguided, or downright ludicrous, decisions involved in trying to take something that works for British audiences, and turn them into something that appeals to those across the pond. Sometimes the theory is to tweak the way things work, sprinkle in notes of American culture, and hopefully deliver the spirit of things. Once in a while, as with the horrible failure that was the American Coupling (based on one of the best shows ever, by the way), the idea is to try to keep the show intact as much as possible, all the way down to only the most minor of changes to the script. Both theories have their hits and misses.
