If you, like so many of us here at Collider, have found yourself wrapped up in The New York Times’ 100 Best Movies of the 21st Century, then you might be playing catch-up. After all, there are a copious number of titles on the list, and it’s incredibly probable that several have flown under your radar. The good news is that a lot of the highly-regarded movies are on streaming, passing the ball into the viewers’ court. What’s even better is that a few of them, like Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report, are going to be streaming completely free of charge. In the case of the 89% Rotten Tomatoes sci-fi flick that sees Tom Cruise step into yet another leading role, the film is set to launch on Tubi beginning on July 1.

Sometimes when I make a video on one of my favorite movies, I find something a little extra upon further viewing. Obviously, there is some research that goes into it as I like to look up what else the writer, director, or actors did or even what possible sequels there are. Class of 1984 is one of my favorite horror adjacent titles out there from the script by Tom Holland and great performances from Roddy McDowell, Perry King, and all of the main gang members. It shows the very real fears of what teachers in bad areas could potentially deal with, only with the knob turned all the way to 11 and it’s immensely rewatchable. Writer/Director Christopher Folkens’ debut feature film “Catalyst”, is a gritty, contained thriller that explores the dark storylines that headline modern life. ‘Catalyst’ is a psychological thriller set to premiere across all major Tvod platforms on Tuesday February 11th. The grounded sci-fi thriller film revolves around seven strangers who wake up surrounded by an electrical force field, with collars around their necks. With no escape in sight and their captors standing guard they must unfold their darkest truths to gain their freedom and save their lives before time runs out.

The film was shot in a stunningly unique manner. Principal photography began in June of 2017 where over seven hours of footage was shot on three cameras with 100% improvised dialogue. Can Micheal Jai White ever get a break? The man had obvious skills, both in acting and martial arts, which we’ve seen in a myriad of his previous films. However lately he seems to have become stuck in a rut of appearing own small cameo roles in films or playing cop roles that don’t show off his skillset. Even when he does get to kick some ass his performance seems stifled.

Moroccan director Aziz Tazi’s thriller “Night Walk,” featuring a turn by Mickey Rourke, has scored a slew of international sales prior to its U.S. launch this month via Lionsgate/Grindstone Entertainment Group.

The English-language pic, for which Rourke won a supporting actor nod at the 2019 Moscow Film Festival, turns on an American named Frank, played by Sean Stone, who is imprisoned in an Arab country after being wrongly accused of killing his Arab girlfriend after a tragic incident.

Behind bars, under guidance from the prison’s most influential inmate (Rourke) and with protection of his Muslim cellmate, Frank unravels a maze of political corruption that leads to top government ranks. Eric Roberts, Sarah Alami and Patrick Kilpatrick also star in the indie pic alongside several Moroccan stars, including veteran actor Abdellah Chicha (“Deep State”) and Ahlam Zaimi (“Razzia”).

Exclusive: The Mickey Rourke, Sean Stone and Eric Roberts crime drama Night Walk has secured North American distribution via Grindstone Entertainment Group, with Scatena & Rosner Films taking global sales rights, Deadline can exclusively report.

Directed and produced by Moroccan-born filmmaker Aziz Tazi, Night Walk follows Frank, a Western traveler visiting the Middle East, where his girlfriend Sarah lives. After a tragic incident leading to Sarah’s death, Frank is wrongfully imprisoned by corrupt police, and under the guidance of the prison’s top shot-caller (Mickey Rourke) and the protection of his Muslim cellmate (French multi-platinum rap artist La Fouine), he unravels political corruption at the top seats of government in his quest for justice. Louis Mandylor and Patrick Kilpatrick also star.

Grindstone has a multi-year agreement with Lionsgate and plans a release for the pic next year.

Night Walk was shot in Los Angeles and Morocco.

Ever wondered what Mark L. Lester did after Commando? Well, he directed a terrible John Candy comedy called Armed and Dangerous. But then he made this bizarre mashup of Escape from New York, The Warriors and Robocop. It’s not as good as it sounds, but like Arnie’s finest 84 minutes, it’s a barrel of stupid fun – and it’s another Vestron “classic” wrenched from the archives and given a remaster we never expected.

In 1999, youth gang culture is so prevalent that all major conurbations have become “free fire zones”, meaning there is no police presence. They’re essentially lawless. The result is that all the youngsters in 1999 wear S&M leather and wield automatic weaponry. It’s not clear where they get all the ammo and bazookas.

In the first part of my interview with Patrick Kilpatrick, one of the screen’s most prolific bad guys, we talked about how he came to be cast so often as a villain, his work for and ongoing friendship with Nicolas Roeg, and his autobiography Dying For A Living. In part two we began by talking about some of the many stars he’s worked with and I asked if he found that his experiences with them had helped him to develop his own acting.

“I’m generally so prepared by the time I arrive on the set that one of the things I don’t want to do is pick up the energy of another actor – unless it’s appropriate to do so – because you’re operating to a different set of goals,” he says. “I don’t know that I learned that much about acting.

In a career that has spanned more than fifty films and a vast number of television appearances, Patrick Kilpatrick has played quite a range of characters but has become best known for his villains. Prior to his career as an actor he worked as a journalist and screenwriter, and he has published the first volume of an autobiography, Dying For A Living. In our wide-ranging interview we discussed his memories of director Nicolas Roeg, his experiences working alongside some of the industry’s biggest stars, the thrill of doing stunt work and much, much more. I began by asking about the film he’s shooting at the moment, mystery thriller Catalyst, in which he plays one of seven strangers who wake up trapped in a warehouse with no idea how they came to be there.

Saban Films has debuted an official trailer for another one of these super cheesy action movies titled Black Water, which is the feature debut of a cinematographer named Pasha Patriki. The title of the film relates to the setting of the film - a submarine which is actually a CIA black site. The plot involves a deep cover operative who awakens to find himself imprisoned there, and then eventually discovers another prisoner while attempting to escape. The big selling point is that this stars two big action legends: Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. The rest of the cast features Al Sapienza, Jasmine Waltz, and Patrick Kilpatrick. This looks as bad as it sounds, even with these two guys in it, but maybe it's a fun time with friends & beer. Fox has handed out the first pilot order of the season today for a TV series based on Steven Spielberg's 2002 sci-fi feature Minority Report. We first reported on the project back in September, when Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment hired Godzilla screenwriter Max Borenstein to write the pilot script. The original film Minority Report centered on the Precrime unit in Washington D.C., where three "precogs" can see crimes before they are committed. Steven Spielberg has hired Godzilla writer Max Borenstein to create a TV series based on his 2002 sci-fi blockbuster Minority Report.

Minority Report starred Tom Cruise as Detective John Anderton, who runs the "Pre-Crime" unit in Washington D.C. that uses three psychics known as "precogs" to accurately predict crimes before they will happen, with arrests being made before the crime actually happens. The plot thickens when John is forced to go on the run after the precogs reveal he is about to commit murder.

The weekly series is said to focus on the elite Pre-Crime unit, with Steven Spielberg said to be eyeing a major star for the lead role, similar to how the producer lured Oscar winner Halle Berry to star in his CBS sci-fi series Extant.

A professional asset seizer, Tom Connor (Patrick Kilpatrick) is arrested by airport security before he can fly off with the plane, belonging to Howard Burgess (Nicholas Guest). One of the security men notices a smell from inside the plane and finds a Db in the toilet. Tripp (Rex Linn) admits to Horatio he also lost money from his investment. Horatio (David Caruso) asks if they were trying to "break him out or set him up for murder." Horatio gets his one-liners back, but not as good as the ones before. Jesse (Eddie Cibrian) has to get him out of the toilet, but he plays 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' with Ryan (Jonathan Togo). Ryan tells Jesse to "have fun with the potty party." Jesse comments he wouldn't want to get his sweater vest dirty! Walter (Omar Benson Miller) is roped in to do the dirty deed instead, as Jesse puts it, "the Miami way.

It just dawned on me today that I completely forgot about Parasomnia when I was doing my favorite films of the year. It really is tough to keep up on the many pictures I watch, and William Malone’s sleeper spectacle is one that I saw some time back. It is a blessing in disguise that I was absent-minded because it allows me to put his sleeping beauty fable in the spotlight. The irony is Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland made some many critics worst list, whereas Parasomnia is Alice in Acidland and will make you forget than expensive blunder. Here is the interview I did with William Malone prior to the Blu-ray/DVD release of the flick.

Jason Bene: You are a huge devotee of the 1920 silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. How much of that style and vision can be seen in Parasomnia?

You’ve gotta give it up to director William Malone – the helmer of 1999's gory House on Haunted Hill remake and the universally reviled 2002's FeardotCom has conjured up something of an original idea for his new film Parasomnia. Parasomnia is the story of Laura Baxter (Cherilyn Wilson), who suffers from a rare form of parasomnia that leaves her asleep for the majority of her life. She is physically capable and generally healthy but tragically rendered comatose for days and months at a time.

Kept in a hospital bed and fed intravenously on a regular basis, Laura seems doomed to this existence until Danny Sloan (Dylan Purcell) stumbles across her room while visiting a friend in rehab. Danny is taken with Laura almost immediately and strives to find out more about her. Coincidentally, in the room next to Laura, serial killer and master hypnotist Byron Volpe (Patrick Kilpatrick - best name ever?...

E1 Entertainment will be releasing Parasomnia on DVD and Blu-Ray July 13th (Dread). Central character Laura Baxter suffers from titular syndrome (sounds dirty), which leaves her in a partial sleep coma for most of the day. A serial killer uses her condition to his advantage by invading her dreams and turning them into nightmares. This site is not totally familiar with the film, but those with an interest in dreams, dream analysis, fantasy, or simply horror can pick themselves up a copy of the film inside.

Two titles put in the can long ago are making their DVD debut this year. On July 13, E1 Entertainment will release Parasomnia from director William Malone ( House on Haunted Hill ). Shot independently, Malone has toured the film fest circuit with his film for the last year. Dylan Purcell, Cherilyn Wilson, Patrick Kilpatrick and Jeffrey Combs star. (Click on the title for a full synopsis.) Also from E1, Fruit Chan's Don't Look Up . This one hits on September 21 and concerns a film crew getting spooked on the set of their latest production. Eli Roth makes a cameo; the film is a remake of a '96 Hideo Nakata ( Ringu ) tale. Check out the trailer here .

If the behind the scenes documentaries on the DVD of Never Surrender are to be believed (and they Always are), this film was meant to be a major break-through for the world of mixed-martial arts. What is mixed martial arts, you’re probably not asking? If the plot of this film is any indication, it’s a place for really insecure guys to try and prove they’re not gay by taking their shirts off and wrestling each other. In a sense, this movie is the blood brother of Troy, a film so terrified of appealing to anyone but manly straight men that it is absolutely hilarious to everyone else. Except that you get the joke in the first ten minutes, and then there’s the whole rest of the movie to sit through.

Hector Echavarria (who also directed and provided the story) stars as Diego Carter, who is the best fighter in the world.

The American Cinematheque at Los Angeles’ Egyptian Theatre (6712 Hollywood Boulevard) has announced a special sneak preview of William Malone’s Parasomnia for Thursday, March 5. A host of other notable fright-film directors will be on hand for the show.

Parasomnia, written and directed by Malone (of Masters Of Horror’s Fair-haired Child and others), is about an art student (Dylan Purcell) who falls in love with a young woman (Cherilyn Wilson) suffering from a sleep disorder that puts her at the mercy of an other-dimensional serial killer (Patrick Kilpatrick). The cast also includes Re-animator fave Jeffrey Combs, Dark Shadows’ Kathryn Leigh Scott, Timothy Bottoms and Sean Young. Prior to the movie, there will be a discussion of how art influences the visions of horror filmmakers (i.e., Polish surrealist Zdzislaw Beksinski, whose works are homaged in Parasomnia). Malone will be joined for the talk by Wes Craven, Stuart Gordon, Wes Craven and Tobe Hooper.

A special screening of William Malone's Parasomnia is being prepped for Thursday, March 5th at 7:30pm. The event will be held at the Egyptian Theatre (6712 Hollywood Boulevard) in Hollywood. Art student Danny Sloan (Dylan Purcell) falls in love with the innocent and beautiful Laura Baxter (Cherilyn Wilson), a young woman with the sleep disorder Kleine-Levin Syndrome. In her treacherous forays in and out of reality, she encounters a mentalist and serial killer, played by menacing Patrick Kilpatrick. This was the premiere of Parasomnia and the Director Bill Malone (Fear.com, House on Haunted Hill) was present to tell us that the inspiration for his movie came as he was watching the Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920). Also eating popcorn were cast members Dylan Purcell, Cherilyn Wilson, Patrick Kilpartrick, Jeffrey Combs, Timothy Bottoms and Cinematographer Christian Sebaldt. Parasomnia is a Sleeping Beauty legend reinvention with dashes of Beetlejuice and Pan's Labyrinth. Despite a fine performance from Patrick Kilpatrick as the evil hypnotist, Dr Volpe ( a performance so good, I little bird tells me it got him picked up for the new Mixed Martial Arts project by the Argentinean fight man Hector Echavarria), and some very stylish camera work, the film as a whole is somewhat patchy in the story and the character development department.

With the first two installments in the "Free Willy" saga snagging almost $108 million in North America alone, Warner Bros. is understandably taking another dip in the ocean with "Free Willy 3: The Rescue".

Handsomely crafted and smartly scripted with solid performances, the latest adventure about a boy and his whale is certainly see-worthy, although it could have used an occasional kick-start in the pacing department.

Given this summer's performance record of family-oriented features, the third "Willy" is unlikely to emerge as much of a catch at the boxoffice, but should make a bigger splash on home video. Greenpeace, meanwhile, should seriously consider adopting it as its official recruitment film.

Back again as Willy's best buddy Jesse is Jason James Richter, who has landed a nifty summer job tracking whales with his trusty mentor, Randolph (August Schellenberg). Both have been brought aboard by Drew (Annie Corley), a research scientist who's investigating a decline in the local orca population off the Pacific Northwest coast.

Their search leads them to a purported salmon-fishing boat actually belonging to an illegal whaling operation headed up by John Wesley (Patrick Kilpatrick), who has invited his 10-year-old son, Max Vincent Berry), on the expedition as sort of a rite of passage. When Max discovers his dad has more than sockeye on his mind -- namely a $200-a-pound trade in harvested whale meat -- he receives a jolt of consciousness-raising that puts a serious strain on their father-son relationship.

Richter, filled out from his last "Free Willy" outing and looking like a baby Ray Liotta, once again delivers a committed performance with a conviction that nicely plays off Schellenberg's easy amiability.

But Berry is the big find this time around as the tousle-haired, conflicted Max. A young man with an old soul, he conveys his character's dilemma with a wide-eyed honesty and sensitivity that bodes well for his big-screen future.

The director, New Zealand's Sam Pillsbury ("The Quiet Earth"), has a nice affinity for the naturalistic, British Columbia setting, while John Mattson's tidy, poetic script (incorporating characters created by the late Keith Walker) is a considerable improvement over the 1994 misfire "Milk Money". Still, the fundamental problem remains that there's only about an hour's worth of plot here that has been stretched and padded with unnecessarily lingering underwater images that may look pretty but do the pacing no favors.

Speaking of visuals, Canada-based cinematographer Tobias Schliessler certainly makes good use of the moody Pacific coastline and its challenging mix of light, shadow and fog. As for those Keiko stand-ins, the usual combination of animatronic and digitally composed creatures along with wildlife footage again makes for passable but not exactly groundbreaking effects work.
