Ross Valory has dreamed of making a solo album ever since he started gigging around San Francisco in the late Sixties, but other projects kept getting in the way. He was in the process of amassing original songs in 1971 when the Steve Miller Band brought him into the fold to play bass on Rock Love. Later, he teamed up with ex-members of Santana to form the Golden Gate Rhythm Section. Within a few months, they changed their name to Journey.

After making a name for himself in HBO’s “Euphoria,”Australian import Jacob Elordi is on the cusp of movie stardom thanks to contrasting performances in a pair of Oscar contenders. He features as Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola‘s biopic “Priscilla” and steals scenes in Emerald Fennell‘s psychological thriller “Saltburn.”
“Saltburn,” from Amazon, follows Barry Keoghan‘s Oliver Quick — an Oxford University student who soon becomes enticed and obsessed with his classmate Felix Catton, played by Elordi. Soon enough, Oliver goes to stay with Felix at Saltburn, the Catton family manor house. It’s in these scenes that Elordi excels but the star is a hit as soon as you first hear him speak as he nails the posh accent with aplomb. His performance develops throughout the film as Felix turns from charming and aloof to sulky and petulant but also generous and genuine. It’s a great role for Elordi,...

Can any film this year be more music-centric than “TÁR’”? Todd Field’s acclaimed project follows a legendary (but fictional) composer and conductor’s fall from grace. Its star, Cate Blanchett, perfectly immerses herself in this deeply flawed character in a film that touches upon cancel culture, consequences, and how the world reacts to those they have built up but then want to tear down. The Playlist’s Jack King described the actress’ contribution as “a hydrogen bomb of a performance from Cate Blanchett, inarguably at her best since 2015’s “Carol.” Now, “TÁR” is delving into its musical elements for a one-of-a-kind video.

On September 2, 2022, “Bones and All” was screened at the 79th Venice International Film Festival to both acclaim and a 10-minute standing ovation. The film centers on cannibalistic lovers portrayed by Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell on a road trip in the 1980s. The cast also includes Oscar winner Mark Rylance, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny. With a score of 95 on Rotten Tomatoes, the film firmly establishes itself as an awards contender this season. But what exactly did the critics say?

I hate his stupid hats, I hate his silly boyband hair fronted by the ‘gappiest’ of long fringes, and I hate the fact he denies he has all the characteristics of Tweek from South Park. He really, really does have all of the above, by the way…
Jack is the manchild who you may have seen ruining the Adam vs. Adam videos recently in Mr Pacitti’s absence. He’s also the guy that normally does this article once a week to the adulation of his #JobSquad… Spare me.

Neverminds is the first in a series focusing on an all-female superhero team. The team is introduced as they begin a rescue mission. Their covert op is interrupted by a mysterious and powerful villain who has been lying in wait. The stranger fights the team to a stand-still before fleeing into the night, allowing the ladies to finish their mission. The story is well plotted, including a nice twist ending, which makes up for the overall lackluster dialogue. Jamie Fay shows his stuff as an artist, though. The colors are vibrant, the characters are distinct and well drawn, and the book has an overall professional feel to it.

Tomorrow, August 24th, is the 75th birthday of Andy Panda. How are you going to celebrate? I am obviously kidding. No one cares about Andy Panda. He now sits in cartoon obscurity next to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Gabby Gator and Dapper Denver Dooley. Yet it is his 75th birthday and we should honor it somehow. The very first Andy Panda cartoon, aptly titled Life Begins for Andy Panda, premiered on August 24th, 1939. It was Hollywood’s greatest year, even if its cartoons may not have lived on with the vigor of its live action triumphs. That said, three other cartoons that also premiered during the month of August 1939 offer an entertaining snapshot of this particular chapter in the Golden Age of American Animation. This was something of a transitional moment, between what cartoon historian Piotr Borowiec calls the “Disney Realism” and “High Warner” styles. That sounds high-minded and obscure, but...

D.J. Coffman's Hero by Night has been optioned by Im Global for adaptation into a live-action television series. The book, released by Platinum Studios, won their 2006 Comic Book Challenge competition.
The Hollywood Reporter says the project is about “young landlord Jack King, who uncovers the lair of the title character. Determined to make some extra cash, Jack auctions the Hero's journal on eBay, raising the ire of a dormant madman.”
Coffman went on to serve as a judge for the 2007 competition before a highly public falling out between the creator and Platinum over rights and payments. The conflict largely stemmed from Hero being used on Drunk Duck and Wowio, the digital portals Platinum owns, and payments coming erratically, if at all. The series, as a result, was suspended after three issues.
At his blog, Coffman admitted, "No, I was not informed. I can’t say that I’m surprised...
