Exclusive: In the first of three roundtables featuring this year’s Emmy nominees for Outstanding Casting, Deadline gathered Jeanie Bacharach (The Bear), Linda Lowy (Hacks), Destiny Lilly (Only Murders in the Building), Brett Benner (Shrinking) and Melissa Kostenbauder (The Studio) to talk about self tapes, landing the joke, and the challenges that come with preparing the next generation of casting directors.

The nominees, who each had to submit a 30-minute composition reel from the season to showcase their work, also explained how they judge their peers and what they were most proud of accomplishing on their respective shows.

On Wednesday, Hulu announced that Season 5 of the award-winning hit show, starring Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin, will premiere on Sept. 9 with a three-episode debut. New episodes will then roll out weekly. The streamer also shared a first look at the new season.

Only Murders in the Building is coming back for season five with a new mystery to solve, and Hulu announced that the upcoming season will premiere Sept. 9. The first three episodes will air on the premiere date, while new episodes will continue to be added to the streaming service on the following Tuesdays.

Season five, which was renewed in September 2024, will see original stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez and Michael Cyril Creighton reprise their roles, while Meryl Streep, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Richard Kind and Nathan Lane will also return in guest starring roles.

New castmembers for season five include Bobby Cannavale, Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, Téa Leoni, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest and Jermaine Fowler.

One major mystery surrounding Only Muders in the Building season 5 has officially been solved! No, we don't know whodunnit just yet, but we do finally have the answer to when we will be able to start solving the newest murder at the Arconia with Mabel, Charles, and Oliver. The dynamic trio will be back with the latest episodes on Hulu this fall, but the release date is a little later than normal.

After Only Murders in the Building season 5 wrapped filming in mid-June, we were keeping our fingers crossed that the new season would hit our watch lists by the show's typical release timeframe in August. However, the cast announced the release date in a video shared on social media on July 23, and there's still a bit more waiting to do in the month ahead.

Hulu said Wednesday that Season 5 of its Emmy-winning comedy Only Murders in the Building will debut on the streamer September 9 with three episodes, with the remainder of the season rolling out with new episodes weekly.

The news comes after the show picked up seven Emmy nominations for Season 4 including its fourth consecutive Outstanding Comedy Series nomination.

Director Mark Waters’ forthcoming feature Hershey has wrapped principal photography after filming for over seven weeks throughout Hershey’s home state of Pennsylvania. Wittrock stars as Hershey, while Daddario plays his wife, Catherine “Kitty” Hershey.

Hershey centers on the eponymous figure who dealt with early setbacks before building one of the world’s most recognizable brands and was also known for contributions to education and his community. In a recent interview with Variety, the veteran performer talked about his recent string of high-profile appearances, which included recurring roles in “Only Murders in the Building,” “Mid-Century Modern,” and “Night Court,” and as announcer on “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney.”

As Mulaney reminds us at the top of his monologue each week, the talk show streams “live around the world with no delay.” This 12-episode season is a continuation of John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in L.A., which was part of last year’s Netflix is a Joke Fest.
