In Elemental fire, water, earth, and air co-exist in Element City, although they live relatively separate lives, with elements never intermingling. However, this all changes when Wade, an emotional water element, and Ember, a quick-tempered fire element, work together to try and save her family's shop. The pair grows closer, and as they spend more time together, unexpected feelings develop that could change the makeup of Element City forever.
Elemental is directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream, the team behind The Good Dinosaur. It was co-written by John Hoberg, Kat Likkel, and Brenda Hsueh, with Sohn working closely with them to create the story, pulling from his own life experiences. Elemental stars Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie, Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Catherine O'Hara, Mason Wertheimer, Joe Pera, and Matt Yang King.

Elemental stars with the four elements of water, air, earth, and fire co-existing peacefully in Element City. However, they live relatively separate lives, with Ember, a hot-headed fire element, and her family running a store in Firetown. When Wade, an overly emotional water element and city inspector, is sucked through the pipes and notes a number of violations, Ember's family legacy is in danger. She and Wade work together to try and save her family's store and slowly grow closer, with feelings developing. Although it breaks a cardinal rule about elements mixing, Wade and Ember's feelings could change Element City forever as opposites attract and create something entirely new.

Elemental examines the age-old question of whether opposites attract. In Element City, air, water, earth, and fire coexist peacefully for the most part, although the elements tend not to mix. Wade, an overly emotional water element, and Ember, a quick-to-anger fire element, become an unlikely duo as they work together to save her family's shop. They slowly learn more about one another, grow closer, and eventually begin to develop feelings for each other. Although this goes against the norm, Ember and Wade's unexpected feelings could change Element City forever.

Just in time for summer, Disney and Pixar are back in their element with their latest animated release! After debuting at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the original animated picture “Elemental” blows into theaters in the U.S. on Friday, June 16.
Directed by Peter Sohn, “Elemental” brings audiences to Element City, where a host of elements — air, earth, water, and fire — live and work. Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie lead the voice cast as Ember Lumen and Wade Ripple, respectively. The fiery and quick-witted Ember has trouble controlling her explosive temper and will be extinguished if she is touched by water.
This becomes a point of contention after one day when her rage causes a water pipe in her family’s convenience store to break, summoning Wade, a fun and sappy water element health inspector who threatens to shut down the shop. Ember must venture outside of her comfort...

The wonderful folks at Pixar Animation are ready to unleash their 27th feature with the imaginative "Elemental." Drawing inspiration from director Peter Sohn's youth growing up as a second-generation immigrant in New York City, the film is a celebration of cultural and ethnic diversity, wrapped in a heartwarming romantic comedy. The story is said to be inspired by films like "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "Moonstruck," and "Amélie," but is presented in a way that appeals to audiences of all ages.
"Elemental" is also one of Pixar's most ambitious films to date, with producer Denise Ream telling Total Film Magazine, "We knew it was going to be hard. We didn't know it was going to be as hard as it was." As all of the characters are different elements, they all move in entirely different ways. Considering the film showcases an entire city of different elemental folk interacting with one another,...

If any DC-themed animated movie to drop in 2019 offers the best of both worlds, it has to be Justice League vs. The Fatal Five. The reason I say that is because while it does chart new territory that I’ll detail momentarily, it’s a love letter to those of us who adored the sheer perfection that was Justice League Unlimited. Believe it or not, even the film’s score mirrors what we once heard from the beloved animated series. Rest assured that you’ll feel right at home as soon as you hear a well-placed electric guitar accompany Superman’s first display of heroics.
Right now, I’m guessing that you’re champing at the bit to ask me if indeed this flick is in continuity with Jlu, as opposed to Batman and Harley Quinn, which really only shared visual similarities with The New Batman Adventures.

Justice League vs the Fatal Five has enjoyable throwback elements, but grasps for mediocrity with its new lead heroes and underdeveloped villains. Fans of Bruce Timm, who created Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited will love the return of the nineties era characters. Kevin Conroy, George Newbern, and Susan Eisenberg return to voice Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The old guard kicks ass. It's the newbies that leaves the latest DC animated adventure lacking.
Justice League vs. The Fatal Five opens with a fierce battle in the thirtieth century. Mano (Philip Anthony-Rodriguez ), the half cyborg Tharok (Peter Jessop), and the slice 'em up Persuader (Matthew Yang King), steal a time travelling capsule. They escape to the present with Star Boy (Elyes Gabel) in tow. The trip doesn't go according to plan. The capsule is sealed and Star Boy, without his meds, has lost his memory.

Warner Bros. has unveiled the official trailer for Justice League Vs. the Fatal Five, their latest animated DC Comics adaptation. They've also revealed that the upcoming title will hit digital retailers on March 30, with physical Blu-ray/4K copies arriving on shelves on April 16.
As for the trailer, it's absolutely epic in scope and loaded down with action. It's also done very much in the style of the beloved Justice League cartoon, which should delight DC fans. Justice League vs. The Fatal Five sees Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman trying to find answers as the time-traveling trio of Mano, Persuader and Tharok terrorize Metropolis in search of up-and-coming Green Lantern, Jessica Cruz, who they intend to use in order to free the remaining Fatal Five members, Emerald Empress and Validus.
The cast includes Elyes Gabel (Game of Thrones) as Thomas Kallor/Star Boy, Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black) as Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern.

Even though Reign of the Supermen‘s home video release is still a few weeks away, 2019 is already shaping up to be one heck of a year for DC animated movies. After all, not only will it bring us the long awaited Batman: Hush adaptation, but we also have an original tale in the form of Wonder Woman: Bloodlines to anticipate.
Actually, there’s another one in the mix which we should all look forward to, that being Justice League vs. The Fatal Five. Set to be the second quarter release in the line, it was first announced at last summer’s San Diego Comic-Con. At the time, we all assumed it to be part of the New 52 inspired continuity of flicks, but it’s turned out to be something else that’ll satisfy longtime fans of the brand.

Having been born in 1980, I consider myself to be a true product of 1980s entertainment, whether it came across in the medium of film, cartoons, comics or live-action TV. Since that golden age, there’ve been very few shows that have effectively modernized the classics from my childhood. Sure, Transformers graced the big screen, but it didn’t appeal to the youthful fondness I once held for the franchise. But in 2010, when G.I. Joe Renegades first launched, something about the series struck a chord within. After only watching just a few episodes of the show, time gave way, and it wasn’t until the Volume One DVD found it’s way into my hands that I was reminded about how much I love this series. Presented in a 2-disc DVD set from Shout! Factory, Volume One collects the first 13 episodes of the show’s 26 episode debut season.

Fox Searchlight George Clooney, left, and Shailene Woodley in “The Descendants.”
Almost a decade ago, actor George Clooney met with director Alexander Payne at a breakfast joint near Warner Bros. studios in Los Angeles to talk about playing a soon-to-be-married cad in his then-upcoming film “Sideways.”
“He didn’t hire me, which I am still angry about,” says Mr. Clooney. But he finally got his chance to work with Mr. Payne in his next film, “The Descendants,” released today by Fox Searchlight.

If you're more interested in the typical fall slate of festival entrees than summer's glut of tentpole action fare, this is a great week. The Toronto International Film Festival announced the first wave of films that will play the fest in September. This is a batch of about 50 titles, which makes up only a small chunk of the programming. Usually Tiff features between two and three hundred films. But these are some of the highest-profile entries. Below you'll find rundowns on the new films from George Clooney, Bennett Miller, Jay & Mark Duplass, Todd Solondz, Francis Ford Coppola, Cameron Crowe, Sarah Polley, Fernando Meirelles, Lars von Trier, Marc Forster, Steve McQueen, Alexander Payne, and Lynne Ramsay. No announcement yet of the Midnight Madness programming choices, always some of my faves, but this is a great start. This is quite the list -- there are easily thirty films here that could be potential top ten for 2011 candidates,...

It looks like we're in for another great year at the Toronto International Film Festival, and I'm excited to be just a little bit closer to the action this time around. The very first titles from the 2011 fest were announced today, and there were definitely a lot of familiar faces among the 10 Galas and 43 Special Presentations. George Clooney is back with two films this year (The Ides of March and The Descendants) and many other Tiff alumni are returning with their latest works including David Cronenberg (A Dangerous Method), Lars Von Trier (Melancholia), Todd Solondz (Dark Horse), Fernando Meirelles (360), Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), Steve McQueen (Shame), Pedro Almodóvar (The Skin I Live In), Michael Winterbottom (Trishna) and Sarah Polley (Take This Waltz). Both Moneyball and 50/50 fill the requisite "big September release with awards potential" slots, while Roland Emmerich's Anonymous was a bit of a surprise pick. However, for the first time ever,...

Writer-director Alexander Payne, the critically acclaimed king of uncomfortable comedies ("Sideways," "About Schmidt," "Election") returns this Oscar season with Academy Award-winner George Clooney ("Syriana," "Michael Clayton,""Up in the Air") in "The Descendants." Based on the novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings, the film also stars Matthew Lillard (remember the first "Scream"?) and Shailene Woodley, but is clearly being positioned as a serio-comic showcase for Clooney's formidable acting chops. The Descendants stars Clooney as Matt King, a land baron who attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughters after his wife suffers a boating accident that leaves her out of commission. Between his lack of experience as ...
