The Accountant 2 Sets Imminent Streaming Premiere After Failing to Add Up at Box Office
Image
After becoming more of a liability than an asset at the box office, The Accountant 2 adds a new audience to boost its momentum. Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal's action thriller is set for an imminent online debut via Amazon Prime Video.

Via Collider, The Accountant 2 premieres via Prime Video on Jun. 5, over six weeks after it hit theaters. The Gavin O'Connor-helmed sequel joins the 2016 original on the streaming service, allowing fans to catch up with the duology on one platform.

Facing fierce box-office competition, including from Sinners, Thunderbolts*,Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning and the Lilo & Stitch live-action remake,The Accountant 2 struggled to generate a big return on its $80 million budget, grossing $101.6 million worldwide at the time of writing. However, the sequel has been a hit with critics, earning a 76% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a considerably better mark than the first movie (53%). The...

The Accountant 2 Hits Major Global Box Office Milestone & Now Climbs Ben Affleck's All-Time Highest Grossing Charts
Image
After just three weeks in theaters, The Accountant 2 has reached a major box office milestone. Ben Affleck returned to play the titular character, Christian Wolff, although that task took nearly nine years to happen. Christian is eventually brought back into action following the death of FinCEN director Raymond King (J.K. Simmons), leading to a new mission to track down mysterious assassins. While The Accountant 2 received even better reviews than the original, it opened to $24 million during its debut weekend.

According to The Numbers, The Accountant 2 has just narrowly passed $90 million at the global box office. This comes as the movie just passed $59 million at the domestic box office and $31 million internationally. In addition, this milestone also moves the action sequel into Affleck's all-time highest-grossing movie charts, now ranking at the no. 17 spot. The Accountant 2 just passed his 2023 movie sports biopic Air and 2009's State of Play.

The Accountant 2 Crosses Major Box Office Milestone, Though The Success Of Ben Affleck's Sequel Remains In Question
Image
The Accountant 2has crossed another milestone, but it may still struggle to make a profit. The R-rated sequel was released on April 25 and comes nine years after the original movie entered theaters. The Accountant 2's cast is led by Ben Affleck (Christian Wolff), Jon Bernthal (Braxton Wolff), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Marybeth Medina), and Daniella Pineda (Anaïs). J.K. Simmons' Raymond King drives the entire movie's plot, as Christian and his friend strive diligently to avenge their fallen ally after his shocking assassination.

According to a report by Variety, the sequel just crossed the $50 million domestic milestone, having grossed $50.8 million, alongside its $21 million international take. That amount comes after a $6.09 million weekend, which was enough to earn fourth place, behind Thunderbolts*, A Minecraft Movie, and Ryan Coogler's Sinners. Unfortunately, the $80 million budget makes profitability difficult to achieve, even after reaching this mark.

The Accountant 2's New Box Office Milestone Pushes It Onto Ben Affleck's All-Time Highest-Grossing Movie Chart
Image
The Accountant 2 has passed a domestic box office milestone and landed on a major chart at the same time. The new movie is a sequel to Ben Affleck's 2016 action-thriller and features the return of his autistic accountant character Christian Wolff alongside Jon Bernthal as his brother Braxton, Cynthia Addai-Robinson as FinCEN Deputy Director Marybeth Medina, and J. K. Simmons as ex-FinCEN director Raymond King. The Accountant 2 release kicked off with an opening weekend that grossed $24.5 million, landing at No. 3 for the weekend behind the Revenge of the Sith re-release and the sophomore weekend of Sinners.

Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, The Accountant 2 is projected to gross a 3-day total of $9.8 million by the end of its sophomore weekend at the domestic box office. The Accountant Movies Are The Closest We'll Get To Ben Affleck's Solo Batman
Image
"The Accountant 2" has been filed into movie theaters across the U.S. The movie reunites director Gavin O'Connor and Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a savant accountant and vigilante, but many (including /Film) have called this sequel an improvement over the 2016 original.

Ah, 2016. That was a lynchpin year for Ben Affleck's career, but not in a great way. He starred in three movies, none of them hits either critically or commercially. After his early 2000s rough patch, Affleck had been back on the upswing since 2006's "Hollywoodland." For the next ten years, he proved himself as a director (first with 2007's "Gone Baby Gone") and as an actor worthy of respect. When he was cast as Batman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," it seemed like Affleck's movie star redemption was complete. Sure, Bat-fans had their doubts at first, but he was joining the superhero boom as one of the world's biggest superheroes.

‘The Accountant 2’ Director Says Anna Kendrick Is “A Hundred Percent In” For Third Movie
Image
Although Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal reunite for some an action-packed bromance in The Accountant 2, one familiar face is missing from the sequel.

Franchise director Gavin O’Connor recently teased that he plans to have Anna Kendrick reprise her role as accountant Dana Cummings for a future third installment, as Affleck said he’s “just waiting for another great script.”

O’Connor told The New York Times that he and screenwriter Bill Dubuque “have had some preliminary conversations. I am personally running from another puzzle movie, which we’ve done twice now. One thing weve talked about is the idea of bringing Anna Kendrick [who plays Christian’s love interest in the first movie] back. Maybe Christian can finally get the love that he deserves.”

“We’re hoping she still likes us,” said Affleck, to which O’Connor updated him, “Actually, Ben, she and I have been texting. She said she’s a hundred percent in if we want.”

‘The Accountant 2’ Doesn’t Add Up
Image
What if Rain Man was Batman? Sounds like the pitch for a comedy sketch that would have absolutely slayed in the summer of 1989. So it’s worth remembering that The Accountant, the 2016 action thriller that ran with that premise, was merely a preposterous crock and not some outdated outrage. What kept the film from teetering out of silliness into offensiveness was, unexpectedly, Ben Affleck’s performance as Christian Wolff, an autistic bookkeeper with a calculator for a brain and a downright mathematical proficiency with his fists and a rifle. The...

The Accountant 2 (2025) Movie Review: A Contrived Setup for Dynamite Brotherly Bonding
Gavin O'Connor
Hollywood has yet to find a decent-to-exceptionally successful film that they can’t spin into an unexpected, full-fledged franchise. So when Gavin O’Connor’s disappointing, Ben Affleck-led actioner “The Accountant” managed to triple its $44 million budget back in 2016, the notion of a film awkwardly titled “The Accountant 2” wasn’t as much of a surprise as the fact that it took them nine years to finally get around to it.

But get around to it they did, and unlike most long-belated sequels, “The Accountant 2” can boast the return of most of the players who came to play for the first round—a good sign for any sequel looking to live up to the standards that made its predecessor a success… even if those standards mostly added up to a whiff. Indeed, for O’Connor and co., the answer to matching the first film’s success is to go...

The Accountant 2 Set to Bank a Respectable Opening Weekend at Box Office, but There's Still 1 Problem
Image
Things look to be adding up for The Accountant sequel as it hits theaters. A new report confirms the box-office outlook for Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal's The Accountant 2 during its opening weekend.

According to Variety, The Accountant 2 is expected to open with between $20 million and $25 million domestically from over 3,600 theaters during its first three days. Despite its respectable star, The Accountant 2 won't bank the top spot on the box office charts thanks to Ryan Coogler's supernatural thriller, Sinners, which is set to make up to $30 million during its second weekend.

The Accountant 2's projected opening essentially matches what the original film made in 2016, making $24.7 million during its opening weekend and ending up as a sleeper hit with $155 million worldwide against a $44 million budget, despite mixed reviews. Despite the strong opening, there's still one problem, as The Accountant 2 will have higher to climb...

Ben Affleck Reveals His Best Acting Performance (And the Answer May Surprise You)
Image
Ben Affleck's latest film is The Accountant 2, in which he plays autistic mathematic specialist Christian Wolff. As much as the role has added to his strong reputation, the actor believes his strongest on-screen performance came in another film.

Speaking with Yahoo! Entertainment, Affleck cited the 2020 sports drama, The Way Back, as his best acting performance ever. According to the actor, director Gavin O'Connor was able to get the most out of him. "I don’t think I can do it any better than I did in The Way Back,"he said. "It was a time in my life that was quite sensitive and tender and vulnerable. Gavin was enormously accommodating and sensitive to it, and created this space [so] I was able to come in and do something that was really meaningful to me as an actor."

Affleck explained that the key to his work in The Way Back...

The Originals Star Daniella Pineda Talks Vampire Diaries Reunion in Her New Film (& Possible Franchise Return)
Image
The Accountant 2 has a balance of familiar faces and new characters as the long-promised sequel nears its theatrical debut. One of the stars introduced in the upcoming action thriller is Daniella Pineda, who teases her "scary" antagonist going up against Ben Affleck's titular character.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Pineda opened up about portraying the villainous Anaïs in The Accountant 2, which will debut nine years after the original. Pineda's ruthless character stood out to her, given how "comedic" much of the sequel is and how different the role was from what she's been used to throughout her career.

“It was new for me. I feel like most characters that I play, there’s like a lot going on, and they’re always very busy, and this was like, can’t be busy. Must be still, be very, very still. It is not scary when you’re moving around a lot,...

‘The Accountant 2’ Review: Ben Affleck’s Autistic Action Savant Makes a Winning Return in a Thriller That Improves on the First Film’s Messiness
Image
In 1984, “The Terminator” became one of the pop-culture touchstones of its decade, though it’s almost hard to remember that when Arnold Schwarzenegger was first tapped to portray that glowering cybernetic killer, the casting was a knowing joke, one that played off Arnold’s borderline kitsch lunkishness as an actor.

Ben Affleck is a far better actor than Schwarzenegger, but nine years ago, when Affleck was cast as the title character in “The Accountant,” the role carried some of that same frisson of meta japery. Affleck, as winning as he can be, has often had a blockish, overly square, slightly inexpressive quality. And it’s precisely that aspect of his personality that makes him so perfect as Christian Wolff, an autistic savant who works as an accountant for mobsters and terrorists, using his surreal numbers acumen to clean up their fraudulent books. He is also, not so incidentally, an efficient action bruiser.

‘The Accountant 2’ Review: Ben Affleck Has Brotherly Reunion With Jon Bernthal In Long-Awaited Sequel — SXSW
Image
Although sequels rarely surpass the original, Gavin O’Connor’s long-gestating The Accountant 2 is a pleasant surprise.

Nearly a decade after The Accountant (2016), Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is brought out of hiding after his former federal contact Raymond King (J.K. Simmons) is killed while on a case. King’s successor Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) enlists his expertise in putting together the puzzle, for which Christian reconnects with his long-lost hitman brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal).

While I admit I wouldn’t call myself the target audience, the original fell flat for me. I actually found myself questioning why a sequel was necessary, but fortunately, the follow-up stands perfectly on its own while delving further into the dynamics that felt halfheartedly introduced the first time around.

And although Anna Kendrick’s absence as accountant Dana Cummings from the original is an unfortunate omission — albeit understandable given her busy year that includes another...
