Sly Stone has pleaded not guilty to a cocaine possession charge in a Los Angeles court. The funk music pioneer - real name Sylvester Stewart - and another man were arrested in April after police pulled over a live-in van they were traveling in for a traffic violation. During the ensuing inspection, authorities found rock cocaine in Stone and his associate's clothing, the musician's attorney told Reuters. Stone officially declared his innocence in an arraignment hearing on Wednesday, which had been delayed for several days after he was hospitalised for heart problems last week. Actor Keith Carradine has filed a civil lawsuit against Hollywood private investigator Anthony Pellicano after discovering he was among the stars named in a wire-tapping scandal. Carradine and his fiancee claim the actor's ex-wife, Sandra Will Carradine, conspired with the investigator and communications company employees to illegally tape phone conversations. In court papers, the Nashville star alleges Pellicano and his ex used "malicious and illegal tactics" to gain leverage in divorce proceedings after he split from his wife in 1993. The actor has hired top attorney Mark Geragos to fight his case, but his ex-wife's lawyer feels sure a jury will sympathize with his client. Peter Knecht says, "She was being a good mother, trying to find out how to get support for her kids. Her motives were neither evil nor sinister." Carradine is one of 12 people, including Sylvester Stallone and comedian Garry Shandling, who were alleged victims of Pellicano and his associates. The investigator has been indicted on charges of illegal wiretapping.

Troubled actor Jason Priestley has just six months to complete an alcohol counselling program or face the consequences. The former TV hunk was given the ultimatum by a Los Angeles judge in connection with a drink-driving charge stemming from a 1999 accident that wrecked his Porsche. Priestley, 31, completed a five-day work release jail program in Los Angeles earlier this month as part of the sentencing. But at a hearing Tuesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Randolph Moore ordered Priestley, who is living in New York to show proof he had completed the program by July 2nd. The actor's lawyer, Peter Knecht says, "Everything's done except the mandatory alcohol program." Priestley pleaded no contest last March to a misdemeanor drunk-driving charge and was sentenced to five days in jail and three years' probation, as well as having his driver's license suspended for a year.
