The Brady Bunch was groundbreaking in its depiction of divorce, blended families and shared beds, but there was one reality that the series resolutely ignored. In real life, if you throw an equally paired group of mixed-gender, heterosexual kids together in the same household and add puberty, what you get is less Brady Bunch and more Bang Bus. 1996’s A Very Brady Sequel spoofed this obvious blind spot by throwing some sexual tension into Greg and Marcia’s fight over the attic bedroom, but even that was pretty neutered by reality’s standards, because of course, in reality, “we all hooked up,” according to Greg Brady actor Barry Williams.
Possibly the most shocking behind-the-scenes Brady relationship drama was its most Freudian, if also a bit overblown. Maureen McCormick wrote in her memoir of having “a huge crush on Robert Reed,” her TV stepdad, to the point that she “really wanted to marry him,...

Life could have turned out differently for Christopher Knight if he hadn’t landed the part of Peter on The Brady Bunch. “Very, very different,” he said on the most recent episode of The Real Brady Bros. podcast. “Let’s just say that there was some experience of what family could be that I was exposed to because of the Bradys. And I wouldn’t have had that. In looking back on it, it was a great balancing agent in my life.”
Knight was alluding to a sense of domestic affection shared with his fictional family that wasn’t always part of his actual home life, at least according to other interviews he’s conducted in recent years. But when he said his life would have been “very, very different,” he was mostly talking about his family’s financial survival. “It chills me to even think” of the alternate future...

Sherwood Schwartz's 1969 sitcom "The Brady Bunch" was progressive and retrogressive at the same time. On the one hand, it vaunted the virtues of remarrying and finding new families, showing that step-siblings and second spouses could produce as harmonious a domestic unit as more traditional nuclear families. On the other hand, the characters were clean-cut and virtuous to a cartoonish degree, only expressing the blandest sorts of domestic turmoil. It's easy to be harmonious when every member of the family is scrupulous and clean. The show was more about mild, silly pet peeves than about legitimately hard-hitting clashes of character.
Of course, "hard-hitting" was not Schwartz's métier. He was a writer of high-concept, light-hearted comedies. This was, after all, the "Gilligan's Island" guy. He wasn't about to skew into Neil Labute family dramas with "The Brady Bunch."

The Brady Bunch remains one of television history's most well-known sitcoms, but at the time of its airing, the show started to lose some steam after several seasons. With the show's children getting older, the decision was made to introduce a new family member, but the cast agrees that this was the moment that the show jumped the shark.
Per People, some of the stars of The Brady Bunch reunited for a panel at The Chocolate Expo at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, earlier this month. Cast members in attendance included Christopher Knight, Barry Williams, Mike Lookinland, and Susan Olsen. When the Brady Bunch stars were taking questions from fans, one person asked, "What was the deal with Cousin Oliver?"
"Our shark jump," Olsen responded. "Every time a show is starting to get a little bit lower in the ratings, they start to add in the cute kid."

After years of re-runs and all new generations finding the show, it might seem as if The Brady Bunchhas thousands of episodes to watch. The reality is that the show only ran for five seasons and had 117 episodes in total, but the cast themselves all thought the show would keep on running when it was originally airing on ABC. Now, Barry Williams, Christopher Knight, and Susan Olsen spoke with People at The Chocolate Expo at Hofstra University about saying goodbye to the Brady family.
A fairly harmless question had the former Brady kids talking about how they learned of The Brady Bunch's fate. When People asked about keeping props and things from the set, Knight shared that no one took anything because they thought the show was coming back. "We didn't know whether we were picked up." Williams went on to explain what happened after Season 5 of the show.

Susan Olsen, the Brady Bunch actress blamed for tanking another revival thanks to her conservative rants, lit up The Real Brady Bros podcast recently with a series of hot takes about her time on the original show. In addition to regrets about not suing Paramount over on-set injuries, she told TV brothers Christopher Knight (Peter), Barry Williams (Greg) and Mike Lookinland (Bobby) that she resented playing the dumbest Brady of them all.
Williams called out Cindy’s stupidity in the kindest way possible, remembering young Olsen as bright and not at all like her Brady character. Especially in the show’s early days, writers found “comedy” in Cindy not understanding, well, just about everything. An example from the first episode, in which mother Carol prepares for her marriage to Mike:

Susan Olsen — who played Cindy Brady, the “youngest one in curls” — suffered a terrible injury filming the first episode of The Brady Bunch.
The former child actor opened up about a backstage accident in a Wednesday episode of The Real Brady Bros podcast alongside her former co-stars Christopher Knight and Barry Williams.
During the show’s first pilot episode in 1969, where blended-family parents Mike and Carol Brady tie the knot, they revisited a moment when the camera struggled to focus on Cindy’s face. Olsen affirmed that it wasn’t a mistake but happened because she “got injured” before filming.
“I almost died,” Olsen said, adding that she suffered an injury while “standing on a makeup chair and something from the catwalk, where they keep all the lights and everything, fell.”
“It hit the makeup man first, [fell] off the body makeup woman, and hit me in the face,” she said.

Patrick Adiarte, the Philippines-born dancer and actor who appeared in The King and I and Flower Drum Song on Broadway and the big screen and had a recurring role on M*A*S*H, has died. He was 82.
Adiarte died Tuesday in a Los Angeles-area hospital of pneumonia, his niece, Stephanie Hogan, told The Hollywood Reporter.
When The Brady Bunch went to Honolulu for a family vacation in a three-part episode that kicked off the fourth season of the ABC series in 1972, Adiarte played a construction gofer who gives the kids a tour before they meet with all kinds of chaos after Bobby (Mike Lookinland) discovers a small tiki idol that could be cursed.

He makes art critics cringe, but Thomas Kinkade — whose idyllic paintings of storybook cottages and pastoral landscapes glow as if lit from within — has arguably given more pleasure to the masses than any artist since Norman Rockwell. In theory, one could make the case that Walt Disney, Charles Schulz or Margaret “Big Eyes” Keane is more deserving of such an extravagant claim, and yet, it’s only Kinkade whose work was recently estimated to be hanging in roughly one in 20 American homes.
In the end, I suppose it all comes down to what you consider “art.” Do black-velvet Elvis paintings count? How about dogs playing poker, or silk-screen renderings of Campbell’s soup cans? That’s where the critics enter the picture once again, as few take Kinkade’s kitsch creations — which have been mass-produced as coffee mugs, collectible plates and dust catchers of all kinds — seriously enough to qualify them as art.

Since getting his big break crafting jokes for Bette Midler in the early 1970s, Emmy-winning comedy writer and personality Bruce Vilanch has found success writing for the small screen and stage. But by his own admission, the scribe behind 25 Academy Award ceremonies and more than his fair share of Miss Universe and USA pageants has also penned some real flops.
In his new book, “It Seemed Like a Bad Idea at the Time: The Worst TV Shows in History and Other Things I Wrote,” Vilanch walks readers through some of the most ill-conceived projects he’s been attached to over the years — from 1978’s “The Star Wars Holiday Special” to the now infamous 1989 Oscars ceremony that opened with Rob Lowe and Snow White pirouetting to “Proud Mary.”

Christopher Knight doesn’t sound that enthusiastic about being a child actor, even though he benefited from the “wholesome environment” on the Brady Bunch set, he said this week on the I Choose Me with Jennie Garth podcast. It’s not that being gainfully employed as Peter Brady was so bad, but “isn’t that your parents’ job to work, not you?”
One reason Knight had to work in the first place was because his actor dad was having trouble landing roles, he explained. With theater jobs in scarce supply, Knight’s father found an agent for Christopher and his older brother, Garth. To everyone’s surprise (because Garth was the outgoing one), Christopher was the one who booked work, including his role on Brady Bunch.
It was a good thing that young Knight delivered a regular paycheck since his home life was “chaotic and not abundant.” How bad was it?...

On HGTV’s 2019 series A Very Brady Renovation, the Studio City mid-century ranch home that served as the establishing shot of the Brady Bunch house was gutted and remodeled to look like the interiors from the beloved sitcom. Then in 2023, socialite (and super Brady fan) Tina Trahan bought the property for $3.2 million and has been obsessively filling it with every prop and decorative item ever captured on the series — 300 “Easter eggs” in all. I toured the house and can attest it is one of the trippiest experiences I’ve ever encountered. Salt and pepper shakers, handwritten birthday cards, night table reading: it’s all exactly as it appeared on the show (as are the rooms).
Now Trahan is mulling what to do with her creation. She’s enlisted Brady Bunch cast members Barry “Greg” Williams and Christopher “Peter” Knight (himself in the decor space — his Christopher Knight Home collection chairs...

According to one star of the series, a revival of The Brady Bunch came close to happening, only to be squashed before getting to production. Allegedly, this was due in part to Susan Olsen publicly expressing her political opinions.
In the classic sitcom, Olsen played Cindy Brady, the youngest of Carol's (Florence Henderson) three girls. During a recent interview for the "Walk Away Campaign" podcast (per Vanity Fair), Olsen said that CBS Studios had a planned Brady Bunch revival series in the works. The show was said to have followed Cindy and her siblings, now as adults, with Olsen's character portrayed as a libertarian podcaster. However, it's alleged that the network wound up scrapping the project due to Olsen's conservative views, particularly about her support for Donald Trump and criticism of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The blended family from The Brady Bunch were not as popular during their original run on ABC as they are today. The ’70s sitcom became a favorite among children and teenagers, who loved to see the sibling dynamics between the three brothers and three sisters. However, they apparently shared more than sibling love off-screen.

“The Brady Bunch” star Barry Williams was inspired by TV mom Florence Henderson to go on “Dancing With the Stars,” he told TheWrap in an interview last week.
Henderson, who played mom Carol Brady on the ’70s sitcom, competed in Season 11 of the ABC competition. “She was my inspiration,” he said. When asked if he thinks of the actress, who died on Nov. 24, 2016, whenever he hits the dance floor, he answered, “Yes. Every week.”
Williams visited the set in 2010 to watch Henderson rehearse and perform. “I was really taken with it,” he said. “She had always mentored me in one way or another. She knew that I had been active theatrically in a lot of musicals, and she thought this would be a great fit for me. I got the bug, and she made me promise to go for it.”

HGTV suffered a significant financial loss when the iconic Brady Bunch house sold for $2.3 million less than the original listing price of $5.5 million. The property was ultimately sold for $3.2 million, which the listing agent believed was a more accurate value for a house that is not suitable for living and subject to restrictive Airbnb rental laws. Despite the loss, HGTV invested $1.9 million in renovations to transform the house into a full replica of the famous show, preserving its iconic status in television history.

HGTV has sold The Brady Bunch house and it did so at below the asking price and below the price they paid when they purchased it back in 2018.
The Los Angeles home served as the exterior shot of the popular 1970s sitcom. HGTV bought the home and renovated the interior to replicate the Hollywood sets of the comedy that starred Florence Henderson and Robert Reed.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the home sold for $3.2 million, which the cable network had listed at $5.5 million earlier this year. HGTV bought the home for $3.5 million at the time and documented the renovations with specials like A Very Brady Renovation and A Very Brady Renovation: Holiday Edition.

The Masked Singer season 9's third place finisher was California Roll, who was revealed to be a capella singing group, Pentatonix, and there are several other groups who would also be perfect for the mystery singing competition. Pentatonix is a five-member act, which is the largest in Masked Singer history. They brought their signature harmonies to songs such as "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler, "Creep" by Radiohead, and "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson.

That ‘90s Show has plenty of pop culture references, but one joke about Friends carries more meaning thanks to a particular cast member. Friends is just beginning to plant roots in television history during That ‘90s Show season 1. However, the important inclusion of a joke between Leia and Jay connects That ‘90s Show and Friends in a way that has likely been forgotten.
The Mary Tyler Moore special guest appearance on That ‘70s Show was a major reference to its titular decade. That ‘70s Show is also riddled with references to popular 1970s bands like Led Zeppelin. These nods to the decade set the tone for That ‘70s Show, and the same technique has continued into That ‘90s Show. However, one cast member’s history can give more meaning to a 1990s pop culture reference.

The Masked Singer season 8 had some of the most incredible talent in the history of the show, and, while the panelists were able to recognize some of the legendary voices, a few contestants left them stumped until their unmaskings. The Masked Singer panel is made up of Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger. They are known for putting together the clues with the voices, in order to make guesses that help the audience make informed decisions about who is behind each mask.
While Ken is notorious for his hilarious incorrect guesses, he does occasionally get one of them right. With a record 22 competitors in The Masked Singer season 8, the panelists had many opportunities to make correct guesses. This season had some of the greatest competitors that the show has ever seen, which made it especially fun and exciting.

It’s New Year’s Eve once again over at Trailers From Hell, so you know what that means, fellow cineastes: it’s Val Kilmer’s birthday!
As such, our Kilmer Birthday Committee (of one) will continue its annual tradition of watching one Val classic in celebration. Tonight’s entertainment: the criminally under-seen and intensely silly Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker adventure comedy Top Secret! (1984), a mash-up Elvis musical/spy caper parody picture. This relentlessly unserious entertainment carries special significance for Kilmerphiles, as it brought the world Val’s first-ever feature film role.

From Gloria Gaynor to The Masked Singer season 8 winner Amber Riley, this season of the show had remarkable contestants. Along with the celebrities on the show, season 8 also included theme nights which made the series so much fun. Panelists got dressed up every week for themes like Vegas Night, TV Night, and 90s Night. After the show upset many fans last season by including Rudy Giuliani as a contestant, the new format revived the series and had fans excited to tune in every week. Season 8 also included two eliminations per episode instead of one like other seasons.

Amber Riley has made TV history with her win on The Masked Singer season eight.
During Wednesday (30 November) night’s finale of the US version of the celebrity singing series, Riley – best known for her recurring role as Mercedes on creator Ryan Murphy’s series Glee – walked away victorious.
Following the top-secret 12-week singing competition, the 36-year-old actor, who had been disguised as a gold shimmery harp, was the last standing contestant to unmask.
Riley’s newest triumph marks her second major win on a TV reality show competition. In 2013, she and her dance partner, Derek Hough, took home the coveted mirrorball trophy of Dancing with the Stars season 17.
Other celebrities, including Gladys Knight and Margaret Cho, have attempted both competitions, however, Riley is the only one to have ever achieved the double feat.

Exclusive: Fox has a lot to be thankful for this week. After three days of delayed viewing, The Masked Singer‘s Thanksgiving episode drew the network’s highest-rated Thursday original telecast in over six years.
The episode, which was the Season 8 semifinals, scored a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, according to Live+3 Day Nielsen data. A Thursday program hasn’t scored that well for Fox since the finale of American Idol in April 2016.
It’s also the highest rating a regular Thursday primetime entertainment telecast has received in L+3 across all of cable and broadcast since the series finale of The Big Bang Theory on CBS in 2019.
It’s worth noting that the episode had a lead in from the Dallas Cowboys win over the New York Giants, which drew an NFL viewing record of its own with a massive 42 million people watching that game.

The Masked Singer season 8 contestants, the Lambs, will make history on finale night. The Lambs impressed the panelists, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger, as they made songs their own with their incredible harmonies. In their debut performance on Muppets Night, they sang a rousing rendition of "Hot N Cold" by Katy Perry. They then dethroned the reigning Queen of The Masked Singer, Kat Graham (Robo Girl) in the Battle Royale, singing a powerful version of "Call Me" by Blondie.
The following week, the Lambs earned their spot in the semi-finals by defeating Le'Veon Bell (Milkshake) in the '90s Night Battle Royale, singing "What Is Love" by Haddaway after their beautiful rendition of "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette. During the semi-finals, the Lambs sang "Need You Now" by Lady A. They later took on Harp and Snowstorm, singing "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson in the Battle Royale.

So far, the popular series has hosted Vegas, TV, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Muppets, '90s, and Hall of Fame Nights. Upcoming theme nights include Comedy Roast, Fright Night, and Thanksgiving.
The Masked Singer theme nights have breathed new life into the show for many reasons. Not only do they influence the song choices, costumes, and sets, but they also provide clues to the contestants' identities. When contestants are chosen to fit certain themes, the panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger have an easier time guessing, and it narrows down the possibilities for the audience as well.
