My Bloody Valentine Reboot in the Works at Blumhouse
Image
Blumhouse plans to reboot My Bloody Valentine, a Canadian slasher film from 1981. The original My Bloody Valentine from 1981 was criticized but gained favor over time, while the 2009 3D remake earned mixed reviews. Blumhouse has faced criticism following recent flops like Halloween Ends, but hopes upcoming projects will win back horror fans' trust.

It appears as if Blumhouse is looking to reboot yet another classic horror film, this time by way of the 1981 Canadian slasher flick, My Bloody Valentine. The original cult-classic was directed by George Mihalka and earned $5.7 million dollars at the box office against a budget of just $2.3 million. A reboot directed by Patrick Lussier was released in 2009 titled My Bloody Valentine 3D, which would go on to rake in over $100 million against its measly budget of only $14 million dollars.

As per Bloody Disgusting, things are in the development stages right now for a My Bloody Valentine reboot. Theres no word on story details,...

‘Woke': Lamorne Morris Teases Keef’s Post-Arrest Season 2 Journey in the Media Spotlight
Lamorne Morris, Blake Anderson, Sasheer Zamata, and T. Murph in Woke (2020)
This story about “Woke” star Lamorne Morries first appeared in the Comedy & Drama Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.

Hulu’s Lamorne Morris-led comedy “Woke” ended its first season with an episode that saw his character, cartoonist Keef, sit down with the white officer who racially profiled and assaulted him in the series premiere. The meeting was orchestrated because the officer was suing Keef for portraying him negatively in his work, and the police department offered to make the case go away if Keef would have a beer with the man. Keef agreed—but took it as an opportunity to try to educate the cop about what he did wrong. Of course, that’s easier said than done, and building their exchange took a lot of hard work in the writers room and on camera.

Keith Knight's 10 Best Movie & TV Roles, Ranked By Rotten Tomatoes
Cynthia Dale, Lori Hallier, Alf Humphreys, and Keith Knight in My Bloody Valentine (1981)
A Canadian by birth, film and TV actor, Keith Knight, is best known for his roles in movies like Meatballs and Owning Mahowny. However, it is his roles on stage and that as a voice actor on children’s TV series such as The Busy World Of Richard Scarry and The Care Bears Adventures in Wonderland that won him worldwide recognition. Known for his wry comedic sense on screen and hugely versatile voice, it is an unfortunate truth that few people know about him, or even his most notable works in movies and TV.

While Rotten Tomatoes is usually an extremely reliable website on which to find critics and audience reviews for most movies and TV shows, shows that Keith Knight has worked on are sparsely rated or do not have enough reviews to merit a "Tomatometer" score.

Will Golden Globe voters be ‘Woke’ to Lamorne Morris?
Image
In November, Hulu renewed its freshman series “Woke” for a second season. The comedy stars Lamorne Morris, who is best known for playing Winston for all seven seasons on the network sitcom “New Girl.” Now that he’s headlining a series, he’s in his best position to receive awards recognition. Last year, Hulu broke new ground with Ramy Youssef (“Ramy”) winning the network’s first Golden Globe for Best TV Comedy Actor. Morris is hoping to continue that trend for the streaming service by reaping a Globe nom for “Woke.”

‘Woke’: Cast & Creatives Speak On The Possibility Of A Season 2 For The Hulu Comedy Series – New York Comic Con
Image
The cast and creatives behind Hulu’s new comedy series, Woke, were on hand for Day 1 of the New York Comic-Con virtual edition following the full release of season 1. New Girl alum and star of the series Lamorne Morris was joined by fellow cast members Blake Anderson and T. Released this past September, the show centers around Keef (Morris) and is loosely based on Knight. ‘Woke’ Review: Hulu’s New Dramedy Is a Black Lives Matter Series Out of Time
Image
The term “Woke” has become so often used in pop culture that it may as well now be parody. But it remains functional, describing an awareness of the social issues that are important to the lives of the marginalized. Any television series can work in a Maga hat joke, or a jocular reference to President Donald J. Trump’s orange tan. But it takes a truly exceptional show to actually present and analyze relevant subject matter while also telling a compelling and entertaining story. But despite its title, Hulu’s new comedy-drama series “Woke” doesn’t entirely satisfy on either count.

Former “New Girl” star Lamorne Morris returns to television in the semi-animated series, which is inspired by the life and work of artist Keith Knight, known for his humorous cartoon handlings of political, social, and racial issues. The wannabe hip San Francisco Bay area-set series tackles conventional definitions of...

Famed Cartoonist Keith Knight Brings His Story to Life on Hulu's Upcoming Comedy Woke
Image

Hulu

Judging by the trailer for Hulu's forthcoming comedy Woke, we're in for a trippy yet potent watch. The show, which drops on Sept. 9, centers on Black cartoonist Keef Knight (Lamorne Morris), the San Franciscan behind a popular comic strip titled Toast -N- Butter. Despite some interpretations of his creations, Keef insists that his work isn't a commentary on race and chooses to "keep it light." However, Keef gains a new outlook after a traumatizing encounter with the police - and by "new outlook," we mean he's able to communicate with inanimate objects that give him a reality check on race. As Keef begins to see the world through an altered perspective - a "woke" lens, if you will - he uses his cartoons to modify his message.

Although the talking objects are way beyond the realm of possibility, the premise of Woke is actually based on a...

‘Woke’ Arrives Late to a Timely Problem
Image
“Why is it that us people of color are always having to stand for something, or say something in our work?” Keef Knight complains. “That’s why I keep it light.”

Keef (played by Lamorne Morris), the hero of Hulu’s new comedy Woke, is a writer and artist on the verge of a life-changing syndication deal for his comic strip Toast and Butter. The strip does, indeed, keep it light: no talk of race, or politics, or any other subject that might make Keef’s audience — a predominantly white one,...

Lamorne Morris on Becoming Socially Conscious and His ‘Woke’ New TV Show
Image
Nine minutes into the pilot of Hulu’s Woke, Lamorne Morris’ character, Keef, is shoved to the ground by a cop for “fitting the description” of a mugger. He looks up to see his irate white friend being coddled by the police. From that moment on, nothing looks the same to him.

A comedy loosely based on the life of cartoonist Keith Knight, Woke is about a Black man belatedly coming to terms with systemic racism and trying to negotiate that newfound awareness with his increasingly public career. It seeks humor in such subjects as blackface, gentrification and police brutality, all seemingly tailored ...

‘Woke’ Trailer: Lamorne Morris Gets a Necessary Wake Up Call in New Hulu Series
Image
Former “New Girl” star Lamorne Morris is back on television in a new semi-animated Hulu comedy series titled “Woke,” which is inspired by the life and work of artist Keith Knight, known for his humorous cartoon handlings of political, social, and racial issues. At the Ctam Virtual Panel Friday, Hulu released a first trailer for the series, giving audiences a look at the hip San Francisco-set series that tackles conventional definitions of Blackness is an absurdly irreverent and comic way.

In “Woke,” Morris plays Keef, a self-identified non-controversial Black cartoonist on the verge of mainstream success, who starts being confronted about racial inequality by animated inanimate objects shortly after he has an encounter with aggressive San Francisco police officers. The incident changes everything, and “keeping it light” Keef becomes woke, hence the title. With a fresh outlook on the world around him, he must now navigate the new voices in...

‘Woke’ Producers Address The Creative Fight Of Being A Black Artist Vs. An Artist Who Is Black, Hulu Releases First Trailer
Image
In Woke, Lamorne Morris plays Keef, a Black cartoonist who is on the verge of success. He is aware of his cultural identity, but doesn’t want it to define him but when he has an unfortunate run-in with the police while minding his own business, things change. At TCA, Hulu released the first trailer of the comedy and co-creators and executive producers Keith Knight and Marshall Todd were joined by director Maurice “Mo” Marable and showrunner Jay Dyer to talk about how the series takes a look at racial identity from a different angle.

The comedy is inspired by the life and work of Knight and although there are tons of laughs and absurdity in the series, it thoughtfully unpacks the experience of Black creatives and whether or not they have to be relevant and timely and just make art. Knight said that many artists are “in it” all...
