Martha Stewart at an event for Biutiful (2010)
Martha Stewart Pranks Warm-Up Comic With April Fools' Coughing Fit (Video)
Martha Stewart at an event for Biutiful (2010)

Martha Stewart pulled a pretty excellent April Fool's Joke today on 'The Martha Stewart Show' (weekdays, 10Am on Hallmark), feigning a convincing coughing fit that pressed her warm-up act and sidekick Joey Kola into service hosting the show. Coughing into a napkin, Stewart whispered "Joey, take over," sending Kola nervously to center-stage.

Kola was obviously tentative and nervous. "You want me to do this?" he asked a producer. "I'm going to do it? All right, here we go." He took a deep breath and tried to navigate his way through a segment, with Stewart whispering nitpicky instructions to him, like "Read [the telemprompter] slower."

'30 Rock Live' Recap: The Best Episode of SNL in Years
30 Rock Live recap: Season 5, Episode 4 (10/14/10)

As I was wisked through security, and walked down the hallway to the famed Studio 8H, I felt myself more excited than I had been in quite some time. There was a buzz about the building. The staff was excited. The crowd was excited. The cast and crew (you often run into them while walking the halls of 30 Rockefeller Center) seemed excited. What could bring my excitement down?

Joey Kola.

'30 Rock' Live: On the scene at the dress rehearsal
Tina Turner in Brother Bear (2003)
Spoiler Alert! If you haven’t seen tonight’s live episode of 30 Rock, avert your eyes, click back and don’t read this until you have!

For those who did, we can share all the behind-the-scenes scoop we collected during the dress rehearsal for tonight’s taping. Let’s begin!

Like any live show, the night kicked off with a warm-up comic, Joey Kola, who got things rolling with topical humor (Chilean miners + Lindsay Lohan = should we laugh?) before introducing some very special musical guests.

In a welcome surprise, the show’s Cheyenne Jackson and Jane Krakowski each took their...

Levittown, New York — Comedian Greg Giraldo's passing, reportedly due to an accidental drug overdose, rocked the comedy circuit. While family and friends were shaken by the sudden death, they were allotted an outlet at the Governor's Comedy Club tribute and benefit show in Levittown, New York on Friday night.

The turnout was immense at the venue, where Giraldo was scheduled to appear, and the event raised over $3,000 in support for Geraldo's family. Club owner Marc Lund managed to organize the event on just two days notice, easily booking comedians from all across the state with tremendous support.

"We wanted to celebrate his life," said Lund. "A lot of comics use this as a release."

The show was opened and hosted by comic Joey Kola, followed by...

Jimmy Fallon
Jimmy Fallon, Martin Short hosting JFL galas
Jimmy Fallon
TORONTO -- Martin Short, Jason Alexander and Jimmy Fallon will host their own galas at the second annual Just for Laughs Toronto Festival in July, organizers said Tuesday.

Veteran American ventriloquist Jeff Dunham will also perform at Toronto's Massey Hall.

Other Just for Laughs highlights include comic showcases including the Asian Invasion, hosted by Canadian stand-up Sugar Sammy and to feature Jo Koy, and the Italian-themed Wiseguys show, headlined by the Doo-Wops, Joey Kola and Dom Irrera.

Just for Laughs COO Bruce Hills said the Toronto edition will remain tailored for a consumer market, unlike the industry-oriented Montreal run July 10-20 that attracts L.A. talent scouts and executives.

For its sophomore run, Just for Laughs Toronto will also for the first time fill local comedy clubs. The Headliners series at Yuk Yuk's will showcase Wendy Liebman, Kevin Hart, Gerry Dee, Al Madrigal, Australian comic Adam Hills, Jeff Ross and Elon Gold. The Absolute Comedy club will host a Canadian comic showcase, hosted by Debra DiGiovanni, while Second City will host "The Sketch Show", headlined by Craig Robinson.

Comedians delayed en route to JFL
Joey Kola
NEW YORK -- The Just for Laughs comedy festival is kicking into high gear Wednesday, and it already feels like an eventful day midday.

Thunderstorms on the East Coast delayed some comics who were set to fly to Montreal on Wednesday morning for appearances at the festival, according to sources.

Among the delayed comics apparently were Mike DeStefano and Joey Kola, who are both scheduled for JFL's popular "Wiseguys" show of Italian comics.

It was not clear how long they were delayed and whether the festival would have to change any show lineups as a result.

Rain and lightning led to a slew of flight cancellations at New York's La Guardia airport, among others.

JFL announced a Thursday news conference at the Hyatt Regency hotel with festival gurus Gilbert Rozon and Bruce Hills, as well as Robert Montgomery of Achilles Media. They were set to unveil plans for the inaugural World Comedy Conference. No details about the event were available.
