June 20 marks the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s iconic creature feature, Jaws, the first contemporary Hollywood summer blockbuster. One actor, who appeared in 1975’s Jaws as well as Jaws 2, is opening up about what it was like filming a pivotal early scene in Jaws.
Actor Jeffrey Kramer played Deputy Leonard “Jeff” Hendricks in Jaws. His character was the first person on the scene the morning after the first shark attack (not a boat accident) happened. Hendricks recalls his reaction to discovering the remains of a swimmer named Chrissie on the beach that next morning.
The Ocean Hasn’t Been the Same in Half a Century
Kramer talked to Gold Derby about the scene during which Chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) walks toward his deputy, who is looking at the body (parts) in terror. Kramer said that Deputy Hendricks’ reaction sets the tone for the movie and that he is basically like the audience.

“The shark’s not working.”
For weeks, the cast and crew of “Jaws” kept hearing the same four words over their walkie-talkies while shooting the film’s climactic ocean battle. That familiar message terrified Steven Spielberg, 27 years old at the time, with only one theatrical feature to his name. If one of the production’s three animatronic great whites broke down, it could mean another wasted day. All the setbacks put the film more than 100 days behind schedule and doubled its budget to $8 million.
“We didn’t know how they were ever going to finish this movie,” remembers Jeffrey Kramer, who played a sheriff’s deputy in the film. “There were rumors all around the set that the studio was going to shut us down.”
Spielberg, who had been entrusted with turning Peter Benchley’s bestselling novel about a rampaging shark into a cinematic event, feared he’d be fired.

Move over Helen of Troy. Fifty years ago, Jeffrey Kramer became the face that launched a trio of shark hunters on that famously not-big-enough boat, the Orca.
Released on June 20, 1975, Steven Spielberg’s Jaws holds bragging rights as Hollywood’s first contemporary summer blockbuster, generating massive box-office returns and waves of movie-based merchandise. And Kramer can boast to being the first actor in the four film Jaws-verse to react to the gruesome remains of a shark attack victim.
As Amity Island’s Deputy Leonard "Jeff" Hendricks (more on those two names later), the actor is first on the scene the morning after the titular great white sinks its jaws into its first piece of human prey, a nude night swimmer named Chrissie.
While Hendricks’ boss — water-avoidant police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) — approaches, Kramer’s horrified face dominates the foreground, his hand at his mouth in shock and his eyes wide with terror.

Celebrating 50 years of the blockbuster classic Jaws, a documentary titled The Farmer & The Shark is on the way from director John Campopiano, first announced by Deadline today.
This particular Jaws-related documentary is taking a very interesting approach, putting the spotlight on a late Martha’s Vineyard resident by the name of Craig Kingsbury.
Campopiano tells us, “The “farmer” piece of our film is the late Craig Kingsbury, who lived a truly remarkable life. We’re telling his story within the context of the making of Jaws on Martha’s Vineyard in 1974. Craig was Robert Shaw’s inspiration for his iconic portrayal of Quint. Craig was originally hired by the production to train Shaw but because his impact was so greatly felt, Spielberg gave him the on-camera role as doomed fisherman, Ben Gardner.”
The documentary focuses on the unique influence Kingsbury had on the film, from both behind and in front of the camera.

Sequels are often the source of major excitement because of the prospect of getting more of an amazing set of characters or an immersive world. However, the same prospect can lead to skepticism, because sequels often have the potential to disappoint viewers by trying to recreate the magic of the original to no avail. The most disappointing movie sequels of the 2010s all have this issue of lacking the depth of the original film, blatantly trying to ride the success of the first movie without being creative or original.
Even trying to be different can have its drawbacks, as demonstrated by the bad movie sequels that missed the point of the original film. The potential of more entertaining stories in a beloved world with an equally beloved group of characters often puts a lot of pressure on a sequel. This is why so many sequels have failed to live up to the hype surrounding them.

After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, three separate moments from John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, the “Jason vs. Tina” battle in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, the “all hell breaks loose” sequence from the start of Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake, the opening sequence of Pitch Black, the “Burn” scene from The Crow (which not only turns 30 this year, but is also getting a new adaptation), the farmhouse raid and ending chase sequences in High Tension, and the climactic moments in the 1989 creature feature comedy Little Monsters, JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek is continuing his The Best Scene video series...

While it can be difficult for horror sequels to live up to the legacy of the original, many were better than expected in hindsight. Jaws 2 was the perfect example of a great horror movie whose reputation was tarnished by the iconic nature of the original. Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice captured the eerie essence of it's source material and deserved to be reappraised by modern audiences.
Horror sequels have always been notoriously difficult to get right, but looking back on some sequels years later, Im often shocked by how well some of them hold up. Despite certain franchises being criticized for continuing indefinitely, when I took the time to truly look at individual entries and considered them on their own merits alone, I was consistently surprised by how many hidden gems were way better than I remembered. Certain sequels get a bad reputation that, in hindsight,...

Some movies from our childhood fail to live up to the size of their memory, but rarely, we rediscover an old movie we always knew was ugly and find it still ugly but also shocking or revelatory. Santa Claus: The Movie is one such secretly subtextual movie. The first act is sort of incredible, with ‘80s movie magic, including matte paintings of the North Pole, massive sets for the castle-like home of the elves, and reindeer puppets that still hold up to today’s effects. Acts two and three turn into a story about one of the elves who runs away, and it becomes Dudley Moore: The Movie.

"This year he Really Is coming to town!" Studiocanal UK has revealed a new trailer for Santa Claus: The Movie, to promote their 4K re-release. "We're delighted to announce that a magical new 4k restoration of the perennial Christmas Classic, Santa Claus: The Movie, from director Jeannot Szwarc will return to cinemas this festive period" starting in late November. The film originally opened in 1985 for the holidays and became a favorite worldwide, though more commonly in the UK than the US. It's not the same as The Santa Clause with Tim Allen, or many of the other animated classics. Santa Claus: The Movie stars David Huddleston as Santa, Dudley Moore, John Lithgow, Judy Cornwell, Jeffrey Kramer, and many others. The legend of Santa Claus is put in jeopardy when an unscrupulous toy manufacturer attempts to take over Christmas. This is definitely a good one to catch up with and show...

A new episode of the Real Slashers video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at one of the more popular installments in the franchise that shares its name with our favorite holiday, Halloween. The movie is 1981’s Halloween II (watch it Here), and to hear all about it, check out the video embedded above!
Directed by Rick Rosenthal from a screenplay by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, Halloween II has the following synopsis: John Carpenter’s Halloween scared the living daylights out of 25 million people and set a precedent in smashing box-office records for a horror film. And now, prepare yourself to go one step further as the nightmare continues in Halloween II. Picking up precisely where its predecessor left off, Halloween II follows the same ill-fated characters as they encounter the knife-wielding terror they left for dead in the first Halloween. But...

"When police raid a house in El Paso, they find it full of dead Latinos, and only one survivor. He’s known as The Traveler, and when they take him to the station for questioning he tells them those lands are full of magic and talks about the horrors he’s encountered in his long time on this earth, about portals to other worlds, mythical creatures, demons and the undead. Stories about Latin American legends."

2023 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of Jaws 2 (watch it Here), the most well-regarded of the Jaws sequels – and Universal is celebrating the occasion by giving the film a 4K Uhd release! The Jaws 2 4K Uhd will be available on July 4th, which seems like a fitting date since the first Jaws is a Fourth of July classic. Copies can be pre-ordered at This Link.
Directed by Jeannot Szwarc from a screenplay written by Carl Gottlieb and Howard Sackler, Jaws 2 has the following synopsis: It’s been four years since that marauding great white shark terrorized the small summer resort of Amity; but the shark that Police Chief Brody destroyed wasn’t the only one in the ocean! The same heart-stopping suspense and gripping adventure that enthralled movie audiences throughout the world in Jaws returns in this worthy sequel to that film classic.

2023 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of Jaws 2 (watch it Here), the most well-regarded of the Jaws sequels. So it seems quite appropriate that a cool Jaws 2 discovery had been made this year: The Daily Jaws has found a long-lost scene from the film, and the only known footage of this scene comes from a Brazilian VHS! This leads me to believe that the scene was probably always included in the Brazilian home video release of Jaws 2, but that’s not completely clear from the report on The Daily Jaws.
What we do know is that Jaws 2 begins with a pair of divers being attacked by a shark while checking out the sunken wreckage of the Orca boat from the first movie. Later in the film, Deputy Hendricks (Jeffrey Kramer) is shown to have retrieved the underwater camera that was dropped by the divers. In this lost footage,...

Last year, Fright Rags got their “Stop the Killer” series of board games started with a board game inspired by the 1984 killer Santa classic Silent Night, Deadly Night (watch it Here). That was followed by a board game inspired by another classic slasher, the 1981 film My Bloody Valentine (watch it Here). And now Fright Rags has announced that they’ll be staying in 1981 for their third “film to board game” Stop the Killer project, which will be based on Halloween II (watch that Here)!
Details on the Halloween II board game are being kept under wraps for now. All Fright Rags has revealed is the cover art, which can be seen at the bottom of this article. But it’s probably safe to assume that the Halloween II game will be along the same lines as the other two games in the Stop the Killer series, which were created with...

We had a video series here at JoBlo and Arrow in the Head called Where It Was Made a while back. Hosted and directed by Ryan Cultrera, the show was all about “revisiting the actual filming locations for some of the most popular films ever made and seeing how they’re holding up today, all while examining just how these locations were used in the finished film.” The premiere episode, released in 2015, gave a tour of the locations used for filming the 1978 classic Halloween. This Halloween, Where It Was Made is making its triumphant return in the most appropriate way possible: with an episode that gives a tour of the locations that were used for filming the 1981 sequel Halloween II (watch it Here)! You can watch this new episode of Where It Was Made in the embed above.

A Colorado mail carrier recently delivered something super special to a struggling dog on his route: quality of life.
Jeff Kramer from Boulder, Colorado, built Tashi the 14-year-old black Lab a ramp so he can easily get in and out of his house.
The pair met a few years ago, according to the Daily Camera, though things were a bit different then.
“As fast as he could — which was not very fast — he ran up to me tail wagging, first day I met him,” Kramer recalled. “He’s just a really friendly dog. And I am a dog person, and they can tell.

Directors Joe Dante (1984’s Gremlins) and Allan Arkush (1979’s Rock ‘n’ Roll High School) cut their teeth in Hollywood putting together trailers for Roger Corman films in the early 1970s and got the idea to make their own film by piecing together stock footage from other Corman pics and shooting a story around the clips. Armed with $55,000 from Mr. Corman, Hollywood Boulevard is the result. Released in 1976 on a smattering of screens, Hollywood Boulevard is a charming and entertaining send-up of Hollywood filmmaking which stars the incomparable (and sadly, the late) Candice Rialson as Candy Wednesday, a fresh-off-the-bus naïve blonde who, at the ripe old age of twenty-four, wants to be an actress and walks straight into the office of agent Walter Paisley (Dick Miller). 11 Drive-in Movie Movies (in alphabetical order):
Blue Thunder (1983) One key sequence in this thriller about a high-tech urban surveillance helicopter is staged (during the daylight hours) at the Pickwick Drive-in in Burbank, California, which was razed in 1990. The Pickwick, due to its proximity to the local movie studios, hosted many movie premieres, most famously that of Blazing Saddles in 1974, for which everyone in attendance was on horseback.
Brokeback Mountain (2005) In one scene after his return from Brokeback Mountain, Ennis (Heath Ledger) takes his wife Alma (Michelle Williams) on a date to a drive-in movie theater, which is lovingly (if briefly) recreated in the film. And it’s a very effective moment of movie magic too—the scene wasn’t filmed at a drive-in at all, but instead a converted softball field in Alberta, Canada.
Cars (2006) During the end credits, the cars are shown at the drive-in cinema enjoying parodies...

With his new film Tusk currently playing in theaters, director Kevin Smith recently spoke with the Wall Street Journal, where he laid out a pitch for Steven Spielberg to direct another Jaws movie.
Kevin Smith is actually directing an homage to Jaws, of sorts, currently titled Moose Jaws, which replaces a man-eating shark with a moose, which he wants to make as close as he can to the original Jaws, "without getting sued by Universal." That topic got the director thinking of the original Jaws, one of his favorite movies, and how much he would like to see Steven Spielberg direct another sequel. Here's what the filmmaker had to say, when asked if he thinks the original will ever be rebooted.
"Yeah ... just probably not while Mr. Spielberg's around. But sooner or later, someone will be like, yeah, people are still afraid of sharks, right? And probably get to it.

I wonder what John Carpenter was initially thinking when he ended his career making an undeniably genre defining film, Halloween. When he was writing his screenplay (a brilliant one, at that) with Debra Hill, did he stop and think that A) He was a huge fan of nihilistic endings and what a terrifying feeling it would be for audiences to go home, no doubt the sprawling suburbs featured in his film, or B) He knew deep down that it was sequel bait and by making the film he would go on to make the single, highest grossing independent film of all time. If I was a betting man, and I’m not, I’d still choose A. It was a stamp,...

Colorado police said a recent online escort ad, featuring a photo of Kara Nichols, was not placed by the 19-year-old aspiring model who disappeared nearly seven weeks ago.
"Our investigators became aware of that posting and followed up on that lead. They were able to determine that someone else had used the photos of Kara for their own ads. Kara was not involved in posting the ads or with those folks. Someone simply grabbed those photos online and used them for their own purposes," El Paso County Sheriff's Office Lt. Jeff Kramer told The Huffington Post.
The picture was recently discovered by police on a Las Vegas-based escort website. Other sites ran stories suggesting Nichols could be working as a prostitute.
"Is missing teen Kara Nichols a prostitute in Las Vegas?" asked Gather. While Examiner reported: "Missing Colorado teen Kara Nichols has resurfaced in Las Vegas, apparently, as a prostitute.
