Gabriel Iglesias Lands Top Stand-Up Special On Netflix For First Half Of 2025; Overall Performance Of Specials Down From Recent Reports
Image
Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias had the top-performing comedy special on Netflix in the first half of 2025, per new data released by the streamer.

The news comes in sifting through the latest edition of Netflix’s biannual “What We Watched” report, unveiled on Thursday, which looked at streaming engagement on the platform from January through June.

Iglesias’ Gabriel Iglesias: Legend of Fluffy ranked 210th on the overall list of highest-viewed TV program during that window, with 7.8 million views since its January 6th debut.

Second on the list is 2024’s top-grossing touring comedian Nate Bargatze, who was ranked 275th with 6.7 million views for Your Friend, Nate Bargatze. His ranking was naturally affected by the fact that the special dropped on December 24, 2024, so the first days of viewership were folded into the report for the back half of 2024.

Third on the list of comics, and 281st overall, is Andrew Schulz with his pregancy-themed Life,...

Variety’s Comedy Impact Honoree Nikki Glaser on How Stand-Up Saved Her Life: ‘We All Thought I Was Going to Die’
Image
Nikki Glaser is a kind person.

It might sound ironic, considering Variety’s 2025 Creative Impact in Comedy Award recipient is infamous for her savagely funny takedowns, such as her star-making turn on last year’s “The Roast of Tom Brady.” In the space of nine minutes, Glaser eviscerated fellow comics while expertly weaving in bits on everything from Cte to how Gisele Bündchen is now dating a jiu jitsu instructor (“Your ex-wife’s new boyfriend can beat your ass while eating hers”). Earlier this year, she hosted the Golden Globe Awards and proved an emcee could be ruthless without being cruel, telling Zendaya, “I woke up for all your scenes” in “Dune” or calling “Emilia Pérez” the “most audacious, ground-breaking film to ever auto-play after ‘Is It Cake?’”

But as her friend and fellow comedian Lisa Lampanelli reveals, Glaser has a reputation as one of the nicest people in the...

Image
Netflix is teaming up with Bert Kreischer for a brand-new scripted comedy series, and if you know Kreischer, you know things are about to get wild! Viewers can most likely expect laughs, chaos, and probably a few moments that'll make you squirm (in the best way). Below, we shared all there is to know about this upcoming Netflix show.

It's titled Free Bert, and what a fitting title for a guy who's made a career out of living loud, being shirtless, and being completely unfiltered. Kreischer will not only star in this new series, but is also signed on as co-creator and executive producer. Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogul join him as co-creators, while also serving as showrunners, writers, and directors for the project. Bert Kreischer to Topline Netflix Sitcom
Image
Bert Kreischer has made five stand-up specials for Netflix, and now he’s taking the time-honored path trod by many comedians: starring in a sitcom.

Kreischer will play the title role in and is a co-creator of Free Bert, a six-episode comedy the streamer has ordered. Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (The Grinder, Huge in France) co-created the show with Kreischer and will serve as showrunners, writers and directors. The cast also includes Arden Myrin, Lilou Lang and Ava Ryan.

In Free Bert, Kreischer will play a version of himself — a “shirtless comedian, party legend, perpetual wildcard,” as the show’s logline puts it. He finds himself in unfamiliar territory when his daughters (Lang and Ryan) are accepted at an elite private school in Beverly Hills. When his antics turn the family into outcasts, he decides to put a shirt on and stifle his true self in order to fit in.

Bert Kreischer Comedy Series Ordered By Netflix; Arden Myrin & Ava Ryan Co-Star
Image
Netflix has been slowly evolving into what broadcast networks have stood for — offering a broad spectrum of entertainment for everyone. After adding procedurals to its portfolio of original offerings, the global streamer also has been taking a page from the broadcast comedy playbook by building series around stand-ups and their lives and material.

Following Shane Gillis’ Tires, Michelle Buteau’s Survival of the Thickest and Leanne Morgan’s upcoming Leanne, Netflix has greenlighted Free Bert, a six-episode scripted comedy series starring, co-created and executive produced by Bert Kreischer, who has done six stand-up specials for the streamer.

Fellow actor-comedian Arden Myrin (The Righteous Gemstones) also stars in the series along with newcomers Ava Ryan — who has a big social media footprint with 3.3M followers — and Lilou Lang. Free Bert is co-created and executive produced by Kreischer as well as Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, who serve as writers,...

Tom Segura To Star In & Produce R-Rated Comedy ‘El Tigre’
Image
Exclusive: Top comic Tom Segura has for weeks been teasing a new film project on his podcasts — and now, we know what it is. He’s found his first feature starring vehicle in El Tigre, an R-rated comedy to be helmed by emerging director Tyler Cornack (Mermaid) from a script by Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley.

The news comes as Segura kicks his work in film and television into high gear. Just a week ago, Netflix ordered a second season of Bad Thoughts, his new series for the streamer, where he places a lens on his some of his most dark and twisted cinematic fantasies.

Entering production in New Mexico this summer, El Tigre follows Jeff (Segura) and his friends as they head down to Mexico, only to discover the hard way that Jeff is a dead ringer for the infamous cartel leader El Tigre who’s gone missing. After...

Netflix unexpectedly renews Tom Segura's middling dark comedy series for season 2
Image
In perhaps surprising renewal news, Variety reports that Netflix has picked up Bad Thoughts for a second season. The dark comedy is created by and stars comedian Tom Segura. If you haven’t heard about it, that’s okay. The unusual comedy has flown under the radar for most and hasn’t exactly been met with glowing reviews.

Bad Thoughts has been described as a “dark and twisted” exploration of unthinkable fantasies and blends cinematic storytelling with Segura’s warped sense of humor. The show sees Segura take viewers through a series of dreamlike vignettes where the story inevitably unfolds in a hilarious yet disturbing way. The show covers numerous themes and tones with the connection being the dark side of humanity.

Netflix Renews Dark Comedy For Season 2 After First Season Divided Critics & Audiences
Image
Netflix has renewed Tom Segura's dark comedy sketch series Bad Thoughts for a second season despite receiving a critic score of just 54% on Rotten Tomatoes. Segura led the cast of Bad Thoughts, playing various characters in concept-themed episodes ranging from "Success" and "Family" to "Love" and Health." Bad Thoughts can feel like a twisted TV-ma version of Saturday Night Live, featuring multiple sketches throughout that each have unique and often vulgar twists. Season 1 of the dark comedy series premiered on May 13, 2025 and can be streamed exclusively on Netflix.

Variety exclusively reported the news of Bad Thoughts season 2 renewal. The announcement came along with a statement from Segura that reads, "We’re all so excited to push things further with Season 2. I promise your family will not approve of what we do." Although Bad Thoughts season 2 currently has no set release date on Netflix, it could be released sometime later this year,...

Ryan Reynolds at an event for Deadpool 2 (2018)
Warner Bros. has pushed back the release of Animal Friends, an R-rated live-action/animated hybrid starring Ryan Reynolds that we know very little about. The film was initially slated to hit theaters on October 10, but has now been set for a May 1, 2026 release.

Plot details for Animal Friends have been kept under wraps, but the film is being billed as an “R-rated road trip adventure.” In addition to Reynolds, the film stars Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Addison Rae, Dan Levy, Lil Rel Howery, and Ellie Bamber. Kevin Burrows and Matt Midler, who previously worked together on The Package for Netflix and Gentlemen Lobsters for Condé Nast, scripted the project, which is directed by Peter Atencio, who helmed Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key’s action comedy Keanu and Bert Kreischer’s The Machine.

The new release date already has an occupant, as Disney’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set...

Comedians get serious: how the personal lives, loss and growth shaped their game-changing Netflix specials
Image
Taking the stage at the Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip, Jamie Foxx took a long look around and soaked up the atmosphere of the legendary main room.

“I ain't been in this motherf--ker in 35 years!” he announced, noting that some people in the audience for "Netflix Is a Joke Presents: Fysee L.A. Comedy Night" weren’t old enough to remember comedy icons like Robin Williams and Richard Pryor, who trod the same stage and are immortalized with their photos on the club’s walls.

The 57-year-old Oscar winner was on hand for a Q&a with his influencer daughter Corinne to discuss his comedy special What Had Happened Was…, in which he triumphantly returned to the stage following the debilitating 2023 stroke that took nearly a year for Foxx to recover from.

But first, he grew a little nostalgic, recalling sneaking into the club as an underage aspiring comic...

Tom Segura Said Wrestling Is for Idiots in This Old Clip and Triple H Brought Him Into WWE
Image
Professional wrestling has long been the subject of criticism, with critics voicing their concerns about its perceived lack of authenticity and the alleged scripted nature of every match and feud. This was evident when renowned comedian Tom Segura called out wrestling stans for being obsessed with the ‘fake sport’ and how they can’t think straight.

Hence, it resulted in some backstage conversation when the biggest wrestling hater was present in this week’s Raw segment, where he was having the time of his life. However, wrestling fans have not taken this lightly because of his comments on entertainment wrestling, and they hated his guts for attempting redemption.

The feeling of hostility was evident among the fans present at the show and the ones streaming the show, who lashed out on social media, calling him a hypocrite.

Tom Segura in Tom Segura: Disgraceful (2018)
Interview: Tom Segura talks comedy, movie aspirations, Jason Momoa and his new Netflix series Bad Thoughts
Tom Segura in Tom Segura: Disgraceful (2018)
Tom Segura has become a popular podcast host in addition to his work as a stand-up comedian. With multiple comedy specials and tons of friends in the industry including Bert Kreischer and Bill Burr, Segura has a lot of connections. But, as big as he is on stage, Segura has long had the ambition to make movies. Some of his ideas came together as the beginning of what became his new Netflix series, Bad Thoughts.

Bad Thoughts is a six-episode series of interconnected short films that tackle the intrusive thoughts we all have, but cross the line of what we think in our imaginations, but would never act upon. Some shorts are multi-part stories that cross episodes, while others are brief, standalone films that work. Segura’s series has mock trailers, celebrity spoofs, and original ideas while featuring recognizable actors including Shea Whigham, Daniella Pineda, and Dan Stevens. Each episode...

Bad Thoughts TV Review: Tom Segura’s hilarious series combines Black Mirror with a sense of dark humor
Image
Plot: In this six-episode dark comedic series, Tom Segura navigates unthinkable situations and fantasies within a cinematic world.

Review: Tom Segura likes messed-up humor. The comedian and podcaster has made a career by telling relatable yet slightly intrusive jokes. Along with his contemporaries Bill Burr and Bert Kreischer, Tom Segura’s brand of comedy is shockingly honest and shockingly blunt yet delivered in a way that makes you think as hard as you are laughing. Segura also loves the scope and scale of cinema and has channeled that into his new series, Bad Thoughts. A collection of loosely connected short films unified by episodic themes, Bad Thoughts is for fans of ambitious comedic series like Key & Peele, Louie, Better Things, and Dave, but through a twisted lens reminiscent of The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror. Hilarious and deeply disturbing at the same time, Bad Thoughts will have you laughing...

Golden Globes’ New Best Podcast Category Draws Applause — and Anxiety — From Creators and Industry
Image
The Golden Globes are tuning into the podcast boom.

In a bid to recognize a rapidly rising medium amid an even more quickly shifting media landscape, the Globes announced the addition of a best podcast of the year category at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. The new honor marks the Globes’ first major expansion since introducing the box office and cinematic achievement category in 2023 — and it’s being met with a potent mix of excitement, skepticism and uncertainty from the podcasting world.

“This is what the industry needs — recognition that podcasting is storytelling,” says comedian Bert Kreischer, host of “Bertcast” and “2 Bears, 1 Cave,” which he co-hosts with his friend Tom Segura. “It’s not just noise. It’s a craft.”

Craft, however, is notoriously hard to define in a medium where a 90-minute unscripted conversation can top the charts next to a tightly edited news brief or a crime docuseries. According to preliminary guidelines,...

Tom Brady Still Regrets Netflix Roast Hurting His Kids: “Felt Like A Stake Through The Heart”
Image
A year later, Tom Brady is still trying to live down his roast and its adverse effect on his family.

Reflecting on Netflix‘s The Greatest Roast of All Time, the 7x Super Bowl champ said he doesn’t want to see his “kids hurt” the way they did after hearing some of the jokes on the live-streamed event.

“When you were in that moment, in that theater that night at the Forum, it was electric. It was crazy. We got done, everybody was on cloud nine. That moment, I’ll never forget. And then I’ll never forget when I talked to my kids the next day,” he said on the Impaulsive podcast. “I felt like a stake through the heart.”

Brady noted that he was fine with the jokes that took a shot at him, but he wasn’t as prepared for those at the expense of ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and their children.

After debuting to 24.3 million views in its first week on the streamer, the audience grew for “Adolescence” to a whopping 42 million views during the week of March 17, maintaining its spot atop the Netflix top 10 TV list.

Viewership for “Adolescence” by far outpaced the No. 2 most-watched show of the week, “The Residence,” which debuted to 6.4 million views in its first week on the streamer. “Running Point” stayed on the top 10 list after first launching on Feb. 27, this week landing at the No.

‘Adolescence’ Sets Netflix Record With 66.3 Million Views, Best Ever Two-Week Total for a Limited Series
Image
“Adolescence” has already set a major viewership record after its second weekend of streaming on Netflix.

After opening with a massive 24.3 million views in its first four days, “Adolescence” was the most watched title on Netflix during the week of March 17-23 with another 42 million views, taking the show to 66.3 million views total thus far — more than any other Netflix limited series has achieved within a two-week period, and the U.K. crime story managed that within just 11 days.

The second-most watched TV title of the week was “The Residence,” the Shonda Rhimes-produced drama series starring Uzo Aduba, which debuted 6.4 million views in four days. It was followed by “Running Point,” which landed in third place with 3.5 million views in its fourth week on the chart. Live wrestling special “Raw: 2025” continued to chart, with the March 17 edition’s 3.1 million views taking No. 4 on the English-language TV list, followed by...

The "Worst Film Ever Made" Was Sabotaged
Image
Tom Green's bafflingly stupid and admittedly "disjointed" Freddy Got Fingered is regarded as one of the worst cinematic atrocities ever staged. And despite all the criticism he absorbed, there was one unlikely man who still championed him. The same man who awarded his movie zero stars out of four, Roger Ebert. Full of disgusting scenes pieced together without any semblance of a meaningful or engaging plot, not even fans of The Tom Green Show could wrap their minds around it. The Canadian's mainstream directing career was over as soon as it began.

20-something years following that dismal experience, he revealed a dire but all-too-common story, the "uncut" version fatefully derailed in post-production. Green's movie career never recovered post-2001, the provocateur easing into the goofy uncle of the comedy community in the podcast era. In one such interview, he quietly dropped a bombshell, explaining how his dream movie was...

Bert Kreischer Explains Why He’s Always Shirtless
Image
Will Bert Kreischer ever be able to do stand-up without ripping off his shirt? Jimmy Kimmel was thinking ahead, wondering if an 80-year-old Kreischer would be “performing at the Orleans in Vegas like (Don) Rickles did” and stripping away his button-down like a dancer at the Peppermint Hippo.

First, replied Kreischer, Kimmel is pretty optimistic if he thinks the topless comic will live to 80. But if he makes it, yep, the comedian will be letting it all hang out. “I'm going to take it off for the rest of my life,” he explained. “I kind of painted myself in this corner.”

But for God’s sake, why? The reason is as simple as the explanation for why Kreischer refuses to wear boxer shorts. (There’s another image to burn into your brain.) “The problem is I’m tactile,” he told Kimmel. “I’m more comfortable with no shirt, no underwear.

Is The Late Show with Stephen Colbert new tonight, March 18?
Image
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert left fans in the dark to start the week. But what should they expect to see on CBS tonight?

There was a noticeable hole in the late-night TV lineup to start the week. Stephen Colbert and his crew were absent, leaving the Late Show audience to look elsewhere for reaction to what transpired over the weekend.

Unfortunately, that trend will continue on Tuesday night. There will not be a new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight.

Instead, CBS will reair the February 17 episode. Tune in to revisit Colbert's conversation with fellow late-night TV host and Daily Show alum John Oliver. The War and the Treaty served as the musical guest that night.

What to watch instead of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight

Once again, late-night TV audiences will have to channel surf to find an alternative. The good news...

Netflix adding 16 movies and series this week
Image
Netflix is adding over a dozen new titles to its inventory this week. From new seasons of current hits to topnotch sleeper movies, you can find something for everyone this week on your favorite streaming service.

No, there isn't anything coming this week that's likely to have the same impact as the number one show, Adolescence. By the way, it's every bit as good as the critics say it is. Okay, maybe one show will. But it really isn't likely that anything debuting this week will knock The Electric State out of its top spot among movies. I believe the critics are just as wrong about the sci-fi movie as they are right about the top-ranked drama.

But that's a discussion - or diatribe - for another time. For now, let's delve into the various worlds of zombies, hip-hop, reality shows, and comedy coming up this week. No, that's not all one show,...

Bert Kreischer on His New Netflix Special, Why Hollywood Is a ‘Gold Rush’ for Comedians Right Now and His Wife’s Note About Sex Jokes: ‘It Wasn’t Coming Across the Right Way’
Image
“I’m a glass half-full motherfucker,” says Bert Kreischer.

I can practically hear him smiling through the phone as he discusses his upcoming Netflix special, “Lucky,” an aptly titled hour that sees the notorious party animal turned family man counting his blessings.

Just moments after articulating his reverence and appreciation for his fan base, the comedian, on a walk in Los Angeles, interrupts the interview to take a selfie with a stranger.

The special, Kreischer’s fourth for Netflix, debuts March 18. It features stories about his wife and daughters that are sometimes heartwarming, sometimes vulgar and often both at the same time.

But Kreischer is grateful for more than just his family. “I feel very lucky to be alive and working at this point,” he tells Variety when asked about the state of the industry. “TV and movies are about to explode in Hollywood, in a really fun and crazy way.

Jelly Roll Launches Losers Run Club
Image
Jelly Roll has launched a run club dubbed, Jelly Roll’s Losers Run Club,.

The announcement came via a video posted this past week, in which the singer shared a bit about his own health journey. “A little bit over a year ago, I literally struggled to walk down my hill to the mailbox, y’all,” he began. “I mean, it was really bad.”

What helped him get into exercise, he explained, was finding motivation in a 5K put on by Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer in 2024. “I saw that Bert and Tom Segura had teased doing a ‘5K by May,’ and I knew right then that if there was ever a place that I was gonna feel safe trying to do my first 5K, it was going to be at the 2 Bears 5K.”

Now, Jelly is reuniting with Kreischer and Segura for the 2025 2 Bears 5K on May 4th in Tampa,...

The 34-year-old confirmed her diagnosis in a “life update” on Saturday, thanking her fiancé, comedian Jeff Arcuri, and stating simply: I have breast cancer.

“Yesterday I saw all the couples post their Valentines Day celebrations. I felt envious if I’m being honest,” the reality star continued.

“Jeff took me to Hawaii and after, we were going to travel the world before planting roots together in NYC finally. But instead, my Vday was spent coordinating a place to live...

Is Ari Shaffir A Big Troll or ‘America’s Sweetheart’?
Image
America’s Sweetheart, Ari Shaffir’s new Netflix stand-up special, bears a title that flies in the face of the hilariously edgy jokes you’ll hear during the comic’s latest hour. “I’m a big troll,” Shaffir laughed as he explained the special’s ironic name. “I like to rile people up. I’m a habitual shit-starter.”

What to expect from the new special? “I’m trying to take every single thing that people say, ‘This is too serious,’ and I’m gonna be like, ‘Let me show you how to find some joy out of that,’” he says. The message of America’s Sweetheart? “Guys, chill the fuck out.”

I recently spoke with Shaffir about the state of comedy in 2025, the legend of working the door at the Comedy Store and how the advent of podcasting permitted provocative comics to be themselves.

“You see it everywhere in America,...

Netflix’s Christmas NFL games — and Beyoncé’s halftime show — brought in 65 million total viewers in the United States, according to Nielsen data. Both games broke streaming records for the NFL in the U.S., as well as viewership records for the coveted 18-34 demographic.

The Ravens vs. Texans game saw 24.3 million viewers based on average minute audience data. As for the Chiefs vs. Steelers game, that saw 24.1 million viewers in average minute audience viewing. Viewership in the United States peaked during the Ravens-Texans game thanks to the Beyoncé Bowl, which saw over 27 million viewers, per Nielsen. That game was also watched by 5.1 million viewers in the U.S. between the ages of 18 to 34, the highest viewership record the NFL has seen for that demographic since 2001.
