How the Nature-Loving Kratt Brothers Became PBS Rock Stars for the Younger Set
Image
Months into an expedition through the Amazon in the early ’90s, the Kratt Brothers — as Chris and Martin Kratt are known — were on the lookout for giant river otters, German shepherd-sized animals also known as “lobos de rio,” or “wolves of the river.” A sudden snorting sound had tipped them off to the presence of the endangered predators feisty enough to chase off jaguars, so they hopped into their little boat, video camera in hand.

“We were so into it, and they were just right there,” recounts Martin. “We were getting great stuff. Then suddenly, Chris and I realized our feet were getting wet. We were so excited [that we didn’t realize] we were both on the same side of the pontoon boat … and we were already going down.”

They scrambled to protect their video equipment in a waterproof bag as the boat plunged into the river, where the brothers soon found themselves face-to-face with several giant otters.

Zoboomafoo Lemur Jovian Dead at 20; Co-Star Remembers Him as 'Gentle'
Someone in lemur heaven is getting a fantastic nature lesson right now, that’s for sure.

Jovian, the lemur who starred as Zoboo on PBS’ hit nature series Zoboomafoo, died Monday at the age of 20, the network has confirmed. From 1999 to 2001, Jovian yucked it up opposite Zoboomafoo hosts (and real-life brothers) Chris and Martin Kratt.

“He was very social and calm,” Martin Kratt says of his former co-star. “He was young and good-looking and very gentle.”

According to the Duke Lemur Center, which Jovian called home, the star is survived by partner Pia and brother Julian, as well as seven children and four grandchildren.

Wild Kratts Earth Day Episodes And Giveaway
I hope you've been enjoying Wild Kratts, the new show from the Kratt brothers, who brought you Zoboomafoo and Kratts Creatures. The show really is fantastic, and is a huge hit with everyone in my family.

You probably know that I like to promote educational television as much as I can, and Wild Kratts has some special episodes coming up in support of the Earth Day efforts at PBS. While every episode might well count as helping to promote the general ideals of Earth Day, "Falcon City" and "The Blue and the Gray" have an extra focus on helping to promote the cause.

This show has proven to really be a treat already, and these two episodes look great. Not only does each episode showcase some great animals, but there is quite a bit of fascinating science thrown in, and now, Martin gets to check out life as... a tree.

Wild Kratts Review
If you have children, and haven't been avoiding television at all costs, you're most likely familiar with Zoboomafoo. The animal show with the crazy name featured brothers Chris and Martin Kratt, their hopping lemur friend, and animals galore. They have a new show that kicked off recently, Wild Kratts, and while very different, it's another great show focusing on animals and science.

This time around, the Kratts deliver a mostly-animated sort of adventure, which takes them around the world to explore the lives and habitats of various animals. Along with their team, they study the science of animal life, and create new suits to help them in their quests.

Wild Kratts takes kids on brilliant adventures, from zipping along with fireflies, to exploring the deepest part of the ocean with massive sperm whales, and the usual Kratt charm and fun is in every minute. Bouncing around in all the cool...
