Since 2005, "Grey's Anatomy" has captivated an astoundingly broad and enduring audience that can't be denied. Despite its seemingly restrictive setting and genre, it has something to offer everyone -- those thrilled by the functions of a busy hospital; fans of melodramatic reveals and romances, as well as those invested in mature relationships; and especially those who want hundreds of high-quality episodes to keep them company as they grow into the next season of their life.
And yet, despite how culturally relevant the series has remained for over two decades, it's this unique combination of subgenres and styles that makes "Grey's Anatomy" one of the more difficult shows for us to offer recommendations for. Sure, it would be easy enough to toss out 15 of the most popular medical procedurals out there and call it a day -- but we know we can do better. As such, we've gathered a mix of twisty,...

The biggest mystery of NCIS actually happened behind the scenes, as one of its former stars disappeared from the face of the earth. Zoe McLellan played Special Agent Meredith “Merri” Brody in the first two seasons of the NCIS spinoff, NCIS: New Orleans. She left the show after the second season finale of the show.
According to her ex-husband, Jean-Pierre Guy Gillain, he hadn’t seen or heard from McLellan or their son, Sebastian Gillain, since April 2019. He believed that his ex-wife took away their then-four-year-old son amidst an ugly custody battle. While McLellan filed abuse charges against her ex-husband in early 2020, her whereabouts have remained a mystery since then.
According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, a felony warrant was issued for McLellan for kidnapping on May 14, 2021. Sebastian Gillain’s photo is up on the website, with his mother McLellan cited as the primary suspect. It...

ABC is moving up the premiere dates of its Thursday primetime dramas by one week. The network announced Tuesday that “9-1-1,” new series “9-1-1: Nashville” and “Grey’s Anatomy” will now premiere Thursday, Oct. 9.
ABC did not reveal a reason behind the schedule change, though premiere date shifts are not uncommon on broadcast television. The change also moves the dramas’ debut closer to the rest of ABC’s lineup, which kicks off its fall premieres on Sept. 16 with the returns of “Dancing With the Stars” and “High Potential.”
It’s unclear how many episodes “9-1-1: Nashville” will have for its inaugural season, though “9-1-1” and “Grey’s Anatomy” have both stuck with 18-episode orders.
“9-1-1” kicks off the Thursday night lineup, returning for Season 9 at 8 p.m.. The new episodes mark the first season without series star Peter Krause, with Captain Bobby Nash killed off in a late Season 8 episode this past spring.

The world of 9-1-1 is fundamentally changed going forward. The ABC drama lost one of its own, the first major death of the series. 911 fans finally have something to look forward to! Just as the series has gone into production for season 9, we got word on when to expect new episodes. However, it’s going to be a longer wait than normal for the ABC series.
Instead of a regular September air date, the series will return in October, meaning we will have to wait a few more weeks to see our favorite firefighters. However, with the series now back in production, we will likely get some fun teasers as we wait to see what happens next for the 118.
Going into season 9, 911 will see some changes in the cast. Peter Krause, who played Captain Bobby Nash, exited the series at the end of season 8. Bobby died after a lab explosion left him exposed to Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever. It will be strange for fans to watch the show without Bobby after eight seasons.

One fan-favorite firefighter is guaranteed to return in 9-1-1season 9. The first-responder drama made waves by killing off Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash at the end of season 8. By far 9-1-1’s most tragic death, Bobby’s departure convinced many viewers that the Lafd Station 118 firefighters would never be the same after Bobby’s death. Nevertheless, the firefighters’ lives go on.

9-1-1 could be getting a scary twist in season 9, thanks to a new idea from a cast member. 9-1-1 season 8 ended with big changes for the characters, including a shocking wedding and life-threatening emergencies. The drama continues to mix intense rescues with personal drama, and keeps fans on the edge of their seats as 9-1-1 's cast of characters navigate both disaster scenes and their own lives.
9-1-1 star Jennifer Love Hewitt recently appeared on the “I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy Didario” podcast (via Apple), where she shared, “What if I get a call at the 9-1-1 call center from a girl being chased by a fisherman? Wouldn’t that be fun?” She was, of course, referencing her character, Julie James, from the I Know What You Did Last Summer series. "I'm putting it out there," she joked.

Chimney is getting back to work today in a sneak peek shared byKenneth Choi of his return to the set of 9-1-1 for the show’s ninth season. It’s been a nice break, but now it’s time for Choi and the rest of his co-stars to get back to saving lives as first responders on the beloved ABC procedural. Showing the major changes he underwent in order to pick up with his character, Choi’s post sees him losing the warm blonde highlights in his hair and fully going back to the life of a brunette. Now, the actor will presumably be joining others, including his on-screen wife, Jennifer Love Hewitt, for what we expect to be an emotional and action-packed set of episodes.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is famously recognized for her roles as Maddie Han (nee Buckley) on the drama9-1-1, and Julie James in the famous slasher flick I Know What You Did Last Summer. Now, she has an idea of how to combine the two.
On the I’ve Never Said This Before podcast, Hewitt shared her crossover pitch. “What if I get a call at the 911 call center from a girl being chased by a fisherman?" she said, per Collider. "Wouldn’t it be fun? It would be playful and it would be fun — like in a Halloween episode. I’m putting it out there! I think that would be really good, like, ‘911, what’s your emergency?’ ‘I’m being chased by a guy with a hook!’ ‘Really? We’ve all seen that movie.’ Wouldn’t that be brilliant?”

How does the 118 move on after Bobby's (Peter Krause) devastating death? 9-1-1 viewers will find out when the show returns this fall. ABC has announced that the highly anticipated ninth season of the drama series will premiere on Thursday, October 16, at 8 p.m. on the network. The show maintains the day and airtime that it has occupied since its move to ABC from Fox. The only development is that it won't be the only show in the 9-1-1 universe on ABC for much longer. The same night sees the premiere of 9-1-1: Nashville, a new series inspired by the flagship series. Closing the night at 10 p.m. is an all-new season of the long-running medical drama, Grey's Anatomy.
9-1-1 Season 9 will deal with a lot, but none more important than the aftermath of the death of Captain Bobby Nash. For the first time in the show's history, a main character died.

Last season, the first responders of 9-1-1 experienced a heartrending loss that will forever change the show’s trajectory. 9-1-1 Season 9 has begun production, but there's a tinge of sadness to it, because one actor won't be coming back.
At the end of Season 8, Peter Krause's character Bobby Nash died. It came as a tremendous shock to viewers of the show, who had gone the entire series without seeing a major character die, and it horrified the rest of the cast as well. So there's a bittersweet air around returning for Season 9, especially for Jennifer Love Hewitt, who spoke to Entertainment Tonight about it.
"It's not the same," she said as she arrived at the LA premiere of I Know What You Did Last Summer. "Nothing is the same. But I do think that, you know, when you're telling a story about first responders, unfortunately, those are the things that happen. [Krause] was the person that mattered to everyone in the cast the most. He was our hero.

From the get-go, the crime procedural, from co-creators Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Brad Falchuk, has been as much a week-to-week exploration of what it's like to be a first responder to emergencies in Los Angeles as it is about the wild and woolly personal lives of these people. One of the show's stalwart heroes is LAPD officer Athena Grant (played by the majestic Angela Bassett), first glimpsed as the wife of Michael Grant (Rockmond Dunbar) and mother to May and Harry. In the series pilot, as much as Athena is capable and sure-handed when wearing the shield and weapon of an LAPD officer, we learn her personal life is messy when Michael reveals to their kids that while they're married, he's gay. That decision would lead to Athena getting divorced, even though Michael stayed close to the family.

Jennifer Love Hewitt has confirmed the start of 9-1-1 season 9’s production. After Maddie suffered one of 9-1-1’s most gruesome injuries, Love Hewitt’s character earned a hopeful ending by giving birth to her second child and naming it after the dearly departed captain, Bobby Nash (Peter Krause). Nevertheless, 9-1-1 season 8 left many major questions unanswered.
Aside from the controversy surrounding Bobby's tragic death, there is uncertainty surrounding many characters and their season 9 arcs. Anirudh Pisharody's Ravi deserves to stay with the 118 in 9-1-1, but Eddie (Ryan Guzman) has officially moved back from Texas. Even Maddie has partially unresolved trauma from her horror movie-adjacent 9-1-1 season 8 storylines.
When speaking with Screen Rant's Ash Crossan, Jennifer Love Hewitt revealed that 9-1-1 season 9 would soon be underway, starting in mid-to-late July. Similar to the iconic role the actress is reprising in 2025’s I...

Over the past seven seasons, "9-1-1" has proven itself to be one of the wildest, most unexpected network procedurals on the air. (You can see our list of the show's best episodes here.) It's not a shock that something from the mind of Ryan Murphy would delight in throwing audiences for a loop, considering his past shows like "Glee" and "Nip/Tuck." But the basic idea of "9-1-1," which follows a group of first responders in Los Angeles as they navigate troubled personal lives and also save the lives of countless Angelenos in sticky situations, allows for the unexpected. But sometimes the unexpected means that cast members depart in surprising fashion. Though the show's most recent season ended with a truly jaw-dropping departure, "9-1-1" has always been comfortable saying goodbye to its cast when the moment is right.

9-1-1 star Ryan Guzman predicted there would be a major death in season 8, albeit with one caveat. 9-1-1 season 9 is on the way, with filming due to begin in about a month, but the long-running procedural is still reeling from the death of Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause).
It marks the first time that the show has killed off a major character, though the 118 has been in plenty of danger in the past. That may be why Guzman, who plays Eddie Diaz, wasn't exactly surprised when he learned that a game-changing death was looming. He was just a little off base.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Guzman reflected on the fact that he thought Eddie was going to be the one to die. In the quote below, he talks with the host about readying himself to hear the bad news, only to learn that it's actually Bobby...

The 118 is going to need a new captain when 9-1-1 Season 9 begins. Near the end of Season 8, their beloved captain, Bobby (Peter Krause), died after being infected with a super strain of Cchf (Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever) for which they only had one anti-viral, which he gave to Chimney (Kenneth Choi). Hen (Aisha Hinds) was offered the job, but she turned it down. And in the Season 8 finale, Chimney certainly acted like a captain. Buck (Oliver Stark) has wanted the job in the past — when there needed to be an interim captain with Bobby on vacation — but he’s not ready for that just yet. However, when TV Insider recently spoke with Oliver Stark about Buck’s future, we asked him what kind of captain he thinks his character will be eventually. “I think the thing that he would struggle with the most being captain is not being the...

5 TV Shows With Brutal & Shocking Main Character Deaths! (Photo Credit – Hotstar)
Game of Thrones shocked the world when it axed Ned Stark before the first season even wrapped. But believe it or not, some shows have gone even harder, killing off their leads before you could blink. Ned’s death was no random twist. Sean Bean’s Eddard Stark was the moral anchor, the face of the show. His beheading at the hands of Joffrey wasn’t just bold storytelling; it was a signal. No one was safe, and Westeros didn’t play by TV rules.
But Game of Thrones didn’t invent the shock-exit playbook. At least, the central figure, Daenerys Targaryen, lived until the finale, Season 8, Episode 6. Plenty of shows have taken that swing, sometimes for story, sometimes because life got messy off-screen. When it’s pulled off right, though, it doesn’t just twist the plot. It leaves a mark.

9-1-1 will be heading into an uncertain future when the show returns for Season 9. As fans know, Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) met his end in Season 8, leaving the 118 without a leader. While it will be difficult for the others to move on without Bobby, a new captain must be named.
Per Principle Magazine, Evan "Buck" Buckley actor Oliver Stark commented on where things could go in 9-1-1 Season 9. He shared how filming will begin in "about a month," so he hasn't read any scripts just yet to know for sure. Noting how Bobby was a mentor for Buck, Stark would like to see his character step into that role for some of the younger characters on the show. 9-1-1 star Oliver Stark reveals that one fan-favorite character won't be replacing Bobby. It's in the 9-1-1 season 8 finale, "Sesimic Shifts", that a reluctant successor to Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) is teased. The season's closing installment tackles the question of who will lead the 118 as its new captain, though the hour ends without an official announcement one way.
Stark, who plays Evan Buckley, spoke with Principle Magazine and revealed why he thinks that Buck would not want to be the leader of the 118. In the quote below, the actor talks about respecting Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) as potential successors. His quote is below:

9-1-1 has been one of the biggest shows on broadcast TV since its 2018 premiere, and for good reason.
From day one, it offered an emotional, action-packed look at first responders whose professional heroism often clashed with chaotic personal lives. It wasn’t just spectacle — it had soul.
However, after watching every episode, I can say with confidence that 9-1-1 Season 8 has written the series into a corner.
(Disney/Christopher Willard)
The biggest issue? You already know. Bobby’s death — and the way it was handled — shook the show like never before.
Sure, some series thrive on a shocking shakeup, but this one felt less like bold storytelling and more like a budget cut in disguise.
(Disney/Ray Mickshaw)
Peter Krause’s beloved character deserved a meaningful exit, not a hastily cobbled-together goodbye that left fans reeling for the wrong reasons.

9‑1‑1's Oliver Stark reveals when season 9 will start production. A lot has changed in the world of the first-responder drama since 9-1-1 season 9 was renewed in May. The biggest change, of course, is the death of Captain Bobby Nash. It marks the exit of original cast member Peter Krause, as well as the first time that a main character was killed off. The controversial storytelling decision hangs over the upcoming season, which will enter production soon.
In an interview with Principle Magazine, Stark was asked to share what he knows about the upcoming season. The actor, who plays Evan Buckley, revealed that the cast and crew are due to begin filming in one month. In the quote below, Stark also touches on how Bobby's death will impact the 118 moving forward:

9-1-1 star Oliver Stark has discussed the exciting new restructuring of the 118 could see in 9-1-1 season 9. Stark has played the role of Buck in the hit ABC procedural since it premiered in January 2018, and the character developed a strong bond with Peter Krause's character Bobby. 9-1-1 season 8's earth-shattering Bobby death has hugely affected Buck, but is also set to have a major impact on the future of the show as a whole too.
In a new interview with Principle Magazine, Stark reflected on the ending of 9-1-1 season 8, which brought with it the loss of Peter Krause's character Bobby. When 9-1-1 returns in fall 2025, there will be a major change in the 118, something that the end of Season 8 did not address: Who will be the next captain, following the heartbreaking, tragic death of Bobby Nash (Peter Krause)? Following Bobby’s death in Season 8 Episode 15, showrunner Tim Minear told TV Insider that wasn’t something that would be answered just yet. We knew it wouldn’t be until Season 9 that we’d learn the answer, though the discussions did begin onscreen, with Hen (Aisha Hinds) turning down the job offer. Now, in a new interview with Principle Magazine, Oliver Stark has revealed that filming on the new season begins “in about a month,” and while he has yet to read a script, he does have an idea about what to expect. “It’s gonna be interesting in the sense that at the end of Season 8, we lost Peter Krause’s character,...

There are going to be a lot of changes for the main set of characters on ABC’s 9-1-1 when the title returns for its ninth season this fall. The major one will, of course, be the fallout and continuation of grief following the passing of the firehouse captain, Bobby Nash (Peter Krause). But aside from the shared roller coaster of emotions that the members of the 118 will be going through, there will also be personal highs and lows that will carry the characters through the next set of episodes. For Oliver Stark’s Evan “Buck” Buckley, he’ll be on the hunt for a new home, or maybe he’ll have already found that cozy corner of the world by the time the Season 9 premiere airs. Either way, after Eddie (Ryan Guzman) decided to ditch his new life in Texas and return to Los Angeles, Buck was forced...

9-1-1star Kenneth Choi opens up about his character's future on the series.
Speaking to TV Insider, Choi responded to the question of whether his character, Howard "Chimney" Han, might be ready to step into the role of Captain in the upcoming ninth season of 9-1-1. "No. Chimney’s not ready for any type of dutiful responsibilities whatsoever. Never," Choi replied.
9-1-1 had plenty of major shakeups in its eighth season, not the least of which was the shocking death of Peter Krause's Captain Bobby Nash in the season's fifteenth episode, "Lab Rats." The loss of Nash hit the series' main cast of characters about as hard as they could imagine, and made some major waves with the stars of the show, as well.

Yes, 9-1-1 is a procedural, and by the very definition, it is the detailed and realistic treatment of a professional procedure.
There are police procedurals, medical procedurals, legal procedurals, and then there are ones that don’t fit into a cute little box like 9-1-1.
These types of series are typically story-driven, namely cases of the week, and character-driven stories second, but 9-1-1 has never been the typical procedural, and the key to their long-term success has always lain in that convergence of adrenaline, heart-pumping action, and beautifully crafted character stories.
(Disney/Christopher Willard)
When 9-1-1 Season 1 premiered, the hook for many new viewers was the star-studded lineup, which included Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, and Connie Britton, alongside the action.
Early promotion sold a show that would have daring emergencies, and that’s something the series has excelled at over its first eight seasons.

Just like Chimney and Hen are ride-or-dies and always there to back each other up, you can count on 9-1-1 stars Kenneth Choi and Aisha Hinds being a great pair to support one another. The Season 8 finale ended with Chimney certainly coming across very “Cap”-like — Hen even calls him Cap after his speech — and the 118 does need a new leader in the wake of Bobby’s (Peter Krause) tragic, heartbreaking death. But is Chimney ready for that when the show returns for Season 9 in the fall? “No. Chimney’s not ready for any type of dutiful responsibilities whatsoever. Never,” Kenneth Choi quipped to TV Insider on the 2025 Disney Upfront carpet in May. Aisha Hinds interjected with, “I wouldn’t say never. I think that’s being a little hyperbolic. You are a responsible person, and I think he could be ready for it.” “She just slipped into Hen mode.

Dick Wolf's "One Chicago" franchise has been one of NBC's most reliable Nielsen ratings performers since its flagship show, "Chicago Fire," debuted in the fall of 2012. Aside from the ill-fated, semi-redundant "Chicago Justice" (which only lasted 13 episodes in 2017), the series and its spinoffs, "Chicago P.D." and "Chicago Med," seem every bit as unkillable as Wolf's "Law & Order" franchise. As long as the shows' fans keep tuning in every week, these Windy City procedurals ain't goin' nowhere.
Alas, the cast members aren't guaranteed to stick around for quite as long. One thing that has become clear from behind-the-scenes photos and videos of the 9-1-1 set is that the cast has fun on set. It’s one such moment that is already online that came up when TV Insider had stars Oliver Stark (Buck) and Aisha Hinds (Hen) in our office playing a game of Knock Your Blocks Off ahead of the Season 8 finale. When asked about a scene that made him break while shooting, Stark recalled filming the Season 7 finale with Hinds, Kenneth Choi (Chimney), and Ryan Guzman (Eddie). The four of them were in the hospital hallway with Bobby (Peter Krause) in the hospital after nearly dying when his and Athena’s (Angela Bassett) house burned down. “For some reason, we just could not keep it together and we were in hysterics. Nobody wanted to look at each other. Every time you’d look, you’d break,” Stark recalled.

9-1-1 star Anirudh Pisharody opens up about the chances of Ravi joining the 118 on a more permanent basis. Pisharody has recurred as Ravi Panikkar since season 4, first appearing in the episode "Jinx." But he's been a more regular fixture on the first-responder procedural during season 8, filling the void created when Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) moved to Texas. It's led to speculation that Ravi could be joining the 118 more permanently when the new season of 9-1-1rolls around.
In an interview with Screen Rant's Rachel Foertsch, Pisharody addressed the possibility of Ravi sticking around for season 9. The actor said that he loved the show, expressing enthusiasm about the possibility. In the quote below, Pisharody jokes about petitioning showrunner and co-creator Tim Minear to have Ravi board the show. Read the actor's quote below:
That's a good question. I should ask you that. I think it's just the nature of a show like this.
