Per Bleeding Cool, Ackles offered his outlook on the upcoming prequel series, The Boys: Vought Rising, particularly as it pertains to his portrayal of Soldier Boy on the show. "I'm excited to explore what that world looks like and feels like and sounds like, and see how those characters come to life in that setting," Ackles said. "I've been playing Soldier Boy in modern day, but I've been playing him like he's kind of an old guy. It's been 20 years since the premiere of Supernatural, and the cast of the long-running series has revealed that they were once surprised anyone watched the show at all. Supernatural aired its pilot episode in 2005, and 15 seasons of a beloved, critically acclaimed show quickly followed.

Supernatural went on to earn big viewing numbers, strong reviews with a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and even some award nominations from major awards bodies, including three Emmy nominations over the course of the series. Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins sat down with TVInsider to discuss the show's legacy two decades after the premiere.

When asked about the show's legacy and the huge fandom it has spawned, all three actors admitted they were surprised by the outpouring of goodwill and love from the fanbase.

When did you first notice that the fandom was something different?

Supernatural premiered in 2005 on The WB, and by Season 2, it was already on The CW, where it stayed for 15 seasons. The horror fantasy series aired for 327 episodes and became the network's longest-running scripted show.

Supernatural was filled with mythical creatures, and most featured a monster-of-the-week pattern, with lots of opportunity for character development and fluff episodes that further cemented the show's legacy. That wouldn't have been possible on a streaming service, which usually has eight to ten episodes a season. When asked how the show could come back, the lead actors, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins jumped with several funny suggestions, like a "puppet show," "anime," or "marionettes."

Padalecki further explained, "We’re all a lot older than we were 20 years ago.

The cast for Supernatural has an idea about what their perfect revival would look like, and it basically would be The Boys. It's been six years since Supernatural came to a close with season 15, and already, people are talking reboots. Reboots and revivals are all the rage in the streaming era, and they have been long before it.
