Antonio Banderas' Gripping Historical Action Flop Is Finally Finding An Audience On Tubi
Image
Based strictly on box office, it would not be accurate to call Antonio Banderas one of the biggest movie stars of the 1990s, but once I laid eyes on the striking Spaniard in Pedro Almódovar's "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" and "Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down," I wanted to him to be in everything. In terms of scintillating, dead sexy screen presence, only Denzel Washington could match him. He became a mainstream American sensation when Madonna failed to seduce him in her "Blonde Ambition" tour documentary "Madonna: Truth or Dare." Banderas was primed for superstardom. And Hollywood promptly fumbled the ball.

Banderas delivered the smoldering goods in Arne Glimcher's lively historical drama "The Mambo Kings," but Warner Bros. had no idea how to sell a movie about Cuban music to American moviegoers, so it stiffed commercially in 1992. Banderas subsequently got lost in the star-studded...

How Antonio Banderas’ Biggest Box Office Bomb Became a Rallying Inspiration That Hollywood is Still Too Afraid to Explore
Image
“More effort than it’s worth” possibly represents the harshest 5 words that can be strung together in the English language. For a film, that statement guarantees an immediate death sentence. In the case of Antonio Banderas’ The 13th Warrior, it spelled the extinction of an entire genre: the Muslim hero archetype.

Antonio Banderas (as Ahmad ibn Fadlan) and Vladimir Kulich (as Beowulf) in The 13th Warrior [Credit: Touchstone Pictures, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures]

In the film’s critical and commercial failure, Antonia Banderas finds a sense of comfort and familiarity with his daughter Dakota Johnson whose 2024 film, Madame Web went through somewhat of a similar treatment. Both films represent a central character destined for a greater purpose who is uprooted from their established life and thrown into a mission against a foreign enemy.

The similarity between the two films is more than skin-deep. Both films also burned millions of dollars...

Meet 'The Activated Man' in Horror Film Trailer Featuring Tony Todd
Image
"What we visualize, we can actualize!" An early promo trailer has been unveiled for an indie horror thriller titled The Activated Man, from filmmaker Nicholas Gyeney. The film is premiering at the Dances With Films NYC Festival in a few weeks, hence this trailer arriving now just before its big debut. After Ors Gabriel loses his beloved dog to cancer, the shock from the trauma produces strange vision projections that force Ors to wrestle with two possibilities: That his mind has fractured, or that it's actually real... Drawing on the universal theme of grief with a twist that Gyeney's work is noted for, The Activated Man stars Jamie Costa as an everyman who loses his beloved dog. His grief spurs disturbing visions that cause him to wonder if he's dealing with the usual highs and lows of a painful loss, or if darker forces are preying on his mind. The cast also includes Tony Todd,...

How Many People Denzel Washington's Robert McCall Kills In The Equalizer Movies
Image
Denzel Washington's Robert McCall has an impressive kill count of 19 in the first Equalizer movie, using various weapons and tactics. In The Equalizer 2, McCall's kill count drops to 9, but he still outshines other characters in the film with his lethal skills. The endings of both movies showcase McCall's resourcefulness and creativity in dispatching his enemies, promising more thrilling kills in the upcoming third installment.

Denzel Washington's Robert McCall has racked up a high kill count in The Equalizer franchise. Meant to be a trilogy of films, the first Equalizer movie premiered in 2014, with the sequel following four years later. The prolific crime-fighter never ceases to impress, whether he's dual-wielding pistols, tricking enemies into electrocuting themselves, or taking down foes with a nail gun from his Boston-based hardware store.

Despite the number of people's killed across two movies, McCall isn't in the business of murder or vigilante justice.

Adkins Action: ‘Abduction’ & ‘Payback’ Reviews!
Image
Growing up action movies were, for me, second only to horror flicks as my go to genre. I used to scour the pages of Impact for news on the latest films and then pre-order the VHS at my local video shop – because yes, back in the day you could actually pre-order a video rental and I Always had to be first to rent my most-anticipated flicks! I mention this only because it was back in that era that the action movie star was king. Starting out with the likes of Stallone and Schwarzenegger, the VHS era gave birth to a myriad of action movie superstars: guys like Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Jeff Speakman, Jeff Wincott and the queen of action films Cynthia Rothrock… all of whom carved out careers in what were – for the most part – direct to video films.

So why the history lesson? Well there’s a...

Scott Adkins and Louis Mandylor in Debt Collectors (2020)
Scott Adkins & Louis Mandylor in Trailer for 'Debt Collectors' Sequel
Scott Adkins and Louis Mandylor in Debt Collectors (2020)
"She gave it up way too easy, French." Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted the first official trailer for Debt Collectors, also known as The Debt Collector 2, a sequel to the 2018 action crime thriller also titled The Debt Collector (also with Scott Adkins and also directed by former stuntman Jesse V. Johnson). As the title indicates, this time there are Two debt collectors who get into a whole load of trouble trying to collect from a dirty casino owner in Las Vegas. "Facing danger from all angles, the pair will have no other choice but to fight their way out of an explosively dangerous situation." Of course. Scott Adkins and Louis Mandylor star as French and Sue, along with Vladimir Kulich, Mayling Ng, Louie Ski Carr, Charity Collins, and Marina Sirtis. This looks exactly like the extra dumb, packed with pointless action, barely bargain bin, pile of filmmaking junk you're expecting it to look like.

Scott Adkins and Louis Mandylor in The Debt Collector (2018)
Debt Collectors Trailer Has Scott Adkins Cracking Skulls and Breaking Bones
Scott Adkins and Louis Mandylor in The Debt Collector (2018)
A new trailer has been released for Debt Collectors. This comes from the folks at Samuel Goldwyn Films and serves as a sequel to another under-the-radar action movie, 2018's The Debt Collector. Action star Scott Adkins headlined the original and is back for more in the follow-up, which reteams him with director Jesse V. Johnson. Based on what we're seeing in this first trailer, this looks like it could be the action movie fix many of us have been searching for during quarantine.

The trailer opens up with an impressive bar fight, in which, Scott Adkins easily takes out an entire group of riled up patrons. When an old friend turns up, they decide to partner up for a seemingly simple mission that takes them to Las Vegas. Unfortunately, things get complicated from there and it leads to more brawling, shootouts and even a boxing match. There are a lot...

Bai Ling, Mickey Rourke, Joaquim de Almeida, and Lee Partridge in The Legion (2020)
Mickey Rourke & Bai Ling in Trailer for Roman War Epic 'The Legion'
Bai Ling, Mickey Rourke, Joaquim de Almeida, and Lee Partridge in The Legion (2020)
"Without fear, we are free!" Saban Films has unveiled an official trailer for the war film The Legion, from Spanish producer / director José Magán. Mickey Rourke and Bai Ling star in this epic tale of courage and heroism in a time of war. Set during the Roman–Parthian Wars, the film is about a Roman legion stuck in the snowy mountains of Armenia. Their only hope for survival is Noreno, a half-Roman soldier, who is entrusted with the impossible mission of crossing the deadly terrain to seek help for his men and turn the tide of the battle. Also starring Lee Partridge as Noreno, plus Joaquim de Almeida, Vladimir Kulich, Max Matveev, Bosco Hogan, Tristan McConnell, and Ciaran O'Grady. This looks a bit too bland, an excessive focus on one-on-one fights, and mostly people running through the wilderness. Still might be cool. Here's the official trailer (+ new poster) for José Magán's The Legion,...

First International Trailer for 'The Debt Collector' Starring Scott Adkins
"So we're supposed to be debt collectors, yeah? We didn't collect anything." An official international trailer has debuted for an action comedy titled The Debt Collector, which is the same title as a 1999 film starring Billy Connolly & Ken Stott. This new The Debt Collector is executive produced by and stars Scott Adkins, who plays a classically-trained martial artist who takes a job as a debt collector for the mob. The typical plot involves a client that "pulls him into a situation deeper than could ever be expected." Also starring Louis Mandylor, Michael Pare, Tony Todd, and Vladimir Kulich. This looks like a crazy violent, awkward dark comedy, buddy movie and I'm not sure if that's a good thing. Could be good, could be bad? Take a look. Here's the first international trailer (+ poster) for Jesse V. Johnson's The Debt Collector, from YouTube: A classically-trained martial artist (Scott Adkins...

Watch Scott Adkins in The Debt Collector Trailer: You Better Pay Up Now
I will readily admit that I have fallen into debt in the past and experienced not so charming people encouraging me to pay up. But. Watch it below and start saving up money now so you can see The Debt Collector when it opens in June 2018.  Louis Mandylor, Michael Pare, Tony Todd and Vladimir Kulich also star. Jesse V. Fantasia Review: Vengeance is Slowly Enacted in ‘Savage Dog’
When a film opens with Scott Adkins rising from the mud with a scream in Indochina circa 1959, you begin cultivating expectations. You forgive the ham-fisted voiceover narration and the quick slow motion cuts disorienting place and time. You forgive the lack of context as to why this man (and a woman too) was trapped under mud in the first place because you’re re-situating yourself in your seat to brace for the impact of the actor’s fists against the flesh of whomever put him there. Maybe the woman is a love interest. Maybe she won’t survive. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I hoped she wouldn’t so the bloodlust could increase further towards revenge. Sadly, vengeance — why I sat down at all — is still an hour away.

Ex-stuntman Jesse V. Johnson’s Savage Dog rewinds six months to show us how Martin (Adkins) got trapped there after all,...

Fantasia 2017: ‘Savage Dog’ Review
Stars: Scott Adkins, Marko Zaror, Juju Chan, Cung Le, Keith David, Vladimir Kulich, Matthew Marsden, Charles Fathy | Written and Directed by Jesse V. Johnson

Ok, let’s all just say it together. Scott Adkins is the saviour of Dtv action movies. Charismatic, skilled and just a downright badass (and likeable) actor, whatever Adkins seemingly touches turns to gold – the Universal Soldier franchise was improved by his addition, as was the Undisputed series: in fact he made that particular fighting franchise Better with each and every sequel. Even the football-themed series Green Street was made watchable by the appearance of Adkins in the third installment, and that coming from someone who, typically, refuses to watch movies based on idiotic football hooligans.

Hold on… Turns out I may have a man-crush on Scott Adkins! And that’s not a bad thing.

Adkins has single-handedly kept the direct to market action genre alive,...

This Kickass Action-Packed Trailer For Savage Dog Looks Like It Came From The 90s
You've gotta watch this trailer for the upcoming action thriller Savage Dog, which features Scott Adkins (Doctor Strange, The Expendables II) kicking ass as he embarks on a mission for revenge.

The movie looks like it came straight out of the early 1990s, which is why I'm kind of looking forward to watching it. I've seen a few trailers for upcoming action films recently that reminded me of movies from the 90s. Are 90s-style action movies making a comeback!? Yeah, it looks like a very low-budget flick, but sometimes it's just fun to sit back, relax, and watch a fun movie like this. Here's the synopsis:

Indochina, 1959. A Wild West town controlled by the criminal class: Vietnamese warlords and European war criminals. The worst prison in the land, it is here that a European, former-champion boxer Martin Tilman (Scott Adkins) has made a name for himself fighting tournaments. When Tilman is due for release,...

Crazy First Trailer for Action Movie 'Savage Dog' Starring Scott Adkins
"There's a tale told somewhere south of Burma. The tale tells of a man..." XLrator Media has debuted an official trailer for an action movie titled Savage Dog, which looks like it's straight out of the 90s as an action movie mixing guns and martial arts and a ridiculous revenge plot and so much more. Scott Adkins stars as a former champion boxer stuck in a prison in Indochina in the late 1950s. When he is released, the people running the jail don't want him to leave and so he must figure out a way to get home. The full cast includes Marko Zaror, Juju Chan, Cung Le, Vladimir Kulich, Charles Fathy, Matthew Marsden, Sheena Chou, and the incomparable Keith David. I really don't know how to describe this, it has some cool action but it seriously looks like this was made 30 years ago and kept in a vault until now.

‘Live-Evil’ Review
Stars: Charlene Amoia, Vladimir Kulich, Tony Todd, Vincent M. Ward, J. Richey Nash, Russell A. Bryan, Carter, Ira David Wood III, Tamara Farias, Jackson Prather, Karen Wheeling Reynolds, Ed Ricker | Written and Directed by Ari Kirschenbaum

Live-Evil. It’s Ghostbusters meets Dawn of the Dead caught in the Twilight Zone… When a small college town police station is besieged by “Evil” on a sleepy Halloween night, Pete, the sheriff, and Hancock, his loyal deputy, are thrown into the middle of holy chess-game that could destroy the town, and possibly the world.

When I started watching Live-Evil I thought it was great. I liked the strange artistic style, I liked the kooky, bass guitar riffs they had thumping in the background, I liked the main character Hancock (Charlene Amoia) who was the right level of badass and grumpy and I liked the way the film just dropped you in it, not...

Denzel Washington in The Equalizer (2014)
Denzel Washington Fights Back in 'Equalizer' Extended Clip
Denzel Washington in The Equalizer (2014)
After serving as a black ops commando for a number of years, McCall (Denzel Washington) does not fear a group of Russian mobsters in an extended clip from The Equalizer. Justified star David Meunier is featured in this scene as gangster Slavi, who is offered a large sum of money to let a young girl go. When Slavi refuses to accept the deal, McCall springs into action, although he falls quite short of his "15 second" goal for neutralizing these treacherous bad guys.

Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua introduce the extended four-minute scene from this upcoming remake, arriving in theaters September 26.

In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloe Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters.

3 'Equalizer' Clips Put Denzel Washington in the Line of Fire
The Equalizer (1985)
Former black ops agent McCall delivers a pair of broken and bloodied sunglasses to a Russian mob member, threatening his boss as the search for a missing Russian prostitute continues in the first of three clips from the upcoming action thriller The Equalizer. Denzel Washington stars as a trained killer in hiding who is forced out of retirement to help a young girl on the streets. Here, we also see McCall's kinder side as he helps a friend clean-up fire damage which may have been caused by the gangsters he is hunting. The third and final clip introduces Chloe Moretz as Teri, a beat-up prostitute looking for solace, which she finds in a very understanding McCall. Check out this buffet of footage before The Equalizer hits theaters later this September.

Robert McCall is a solitary, ex-special ops, monastic figure who despises injustice and devotes himself to helping victims of criminals.

First Trailer for The Equalizer Starring Denzel Washington Released
It’s taken a while, and was expected a fair few weeks ago, but the first trailer for The Equalizer is finally here! The movie remake of the TV series which ran from 1985 – 1989 and starred the late Edward Woodward. Along with Denzel Washington, it stars up and coming Kick-Ass actress Chloe Grace Moretz.

The Equalizer will see Washington and director Antoine Fuqua reteam after previously working together on Training Day over a decade ago in 2001.

This first sneak peek at the movie doesn’t offer up a lot more in terms of plot details than the synopsis below, but it does highlight some great action sequences and the fact that the lead actor is once again playing a stone cold tough guy who will do whatever necessary. In short, it looks like a lot of fun!

Starring Denzel Washington, it tells the story of a former black ops commando who...

Denzel Washington Will Bust You Up Good in First The Equalizer Trailer
You do not want to mess with Denzel Washington when he re-teams with Antoine Fuqua in “The Equalizer,” a big-screen adaptation of the ’80s TV show about a badass English guy in America who fights for the little guy. This version features a badass American guy in the role, which is ironic, I thought Brits got all the American roles and not the other way around these days? Anyways, take a gander at the first trailer for “The Equalizer,” where Denzel busts heads and kicks ass. Sure, he’s a little older and slower these days, but no one’s perfect. A former black ops commando who faked his death for a quiet life in Boston comes out of his retirement to rescue a young girl and finds himself face to face with Russian gangsters. Starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Denzel Washington, Melissa Leo, Marton Csokas, Bill Pullman, Haley Bennett, Vladimir Kulich,...

New Images from The Equalizer Starring Denzel Washington
Following the release of the first poster for The Equalizer, we now have a new batch of stills just days before the release of the first trailer for the big screen remake of the TV series which ran from 1985 – 1989 and starred the late Edward Woodward.

The Equalizer will see Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua reteam after working together after previously teaming up for Training Day.

In a recent interview, Washington said that he’s not feeling under pressure to live up to the high standards set by fans of the TV show, stating: “The title doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s the material. It’s a classic story, the innocent girl and the guy coming in to save the day and kick some butt. You’ll get some popcorn and escape for a couple of hours.”

Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer Nabs a Poster
Denzel Washington is a bad man in director Antoine Fuqua’s “The Equalizer.” It’s a good thing, then, that there are even badder people in need of having their asses kicked, because that’s exactly what Washington’s character will be doing lots of in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the ’80s TV series of the same name. In the flick, Denzel plays “a former black ops commando who faked his death for a quiet life in Boston. He comes out of his retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri, and finds himself face to face with Russian gangsters.” “Kick-Ass’s” Chloe Moretz will play Teri, the girl in need of saving. Which is amusing given that, well, Moretz played Hit-Girl in the “Kick-Ass” movies, and I don’t think anyone is going to confuse Hit-Girl with someone who needs saving. Anyways, the film co-stars Marton Csokas, Bill Pullman,...

The Equalizer (1985)
Denzel Washington Likely to Return for 'The Equalizer 2'
The Equalizer (1985)
Nearly seven months before The Equalizer is set to hit theaters this fall, Sony Pictures is already developing a sequel to the big screen adaptation of the original 80s TV drama, hiring Richard Wenk (The Equalizer, The Expendables 2) to return for scripting duties

Sony made the decision to move forward on a follow-up after a December test screening yielded the highest scores for an R-rated movie in the studio's history. Denzel Washington is expected to reprise his role in the original as Robert McCall, a former Black Ops commander who lives a quiet life in Boston. When he helps rescue a teenage prostitute (Chloe Moretz), he finds himself going up against deadly Russian mobsters. Denzel Washington's original deal did not include an option for a sequel, even though Sony always imagined the project as the start of a potential franchise. If he does sign on, this will be the actor's first ever sequel.

First Look At Denzel Washington In Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer
Today we get our first look at Denzel Washington in director Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming film, The Equalizer. Originally set to be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, the upcoming crime thriller, which is based on the 80s TV show of the same name, reunites Washington with his Training Day director in a film that is already sounding very promising.

The always reliable actor, who is currently coming off a very, very hot streak, will step into the role of Robert McCall, “a retired covert operative who, seeking redemption for his dark deeds, quits a CIA-like agency and puts an advertisement in the paper that reads simply: Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer.”

Seeing as The Equalizer wrapped production this past summer, the image released today is likely just the first piece of an upcoming marketing campaign. It doesn’t give us much to go on, but then again,...
