Buffy Star Charisma Carpenter Hints At Cordelia Return For Legacy Sequel Series... Despite Character's Death
Image
Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is set to reprise the title role of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the upcoming Hulu revival series, recently said that she would ideally like the show to feature a mixture of new and returning characters - including some who didn't make it out alive.

"It will be lighter than the last few seasons of the original," Gellar told Vanity Fair. "We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well."

Cheerleader turned fellow demon-hunter Cordelia Chase actually survived the events of the original Buffy series, but was ultimately killed off in the final season of the Angel spin-off. While speaking to IGN, actress Charisma Carpenter said she is "hopeful" that Cordelia will make an appearance in the new series.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Says She Did ‘Buffy’ Reboot to Bring Comfort in Divided Times: ‘We Need That Chosen Family’
Image
After years of shutting rumors and fan-casting of a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot, Sarah Michelle Gellar shocked lifelong fans of the cult-favorite series by signing on to a sequel series at Hulu earlier this year.

Reflecting Tuesday on her reasons for deciding to revisit the iconic character over 20 years after staking her last vampire, the actress said on SiriusXM’s “The Morning Mash Up” that she wants the project to bring comfort to fans living in particularly divided times.

“You know, I hope that it brings comfort. I think for me that was like, the big thing is that when you realize all these years later that the show still translates, ’cause sometimes you watch a show that you loved and you see it now and you’re like, ‘Ok,’ but it doesn’t have the same meaning. ‘Buffy’ is still hitting people who are watching it for the...

During a new appearance on the Today show with her Buffy co-star Alyson Hannigan, Gellar revealed that her children watched the pop culture show and detailed their reactions.

It was said that the new show would be “contemporary, building on the mythology of the original.” That project never made it into production – and earlier this week, it was revealed that we’re going to be getting a Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival instead, with Sarah Michelle Gellar returning to the role of Buffy Summers and Chloé Zhao directing the first episode. Now, Gellar has taken to social media to confirm that a revival is in the works, and that talks started three years ago!

The talks must not have gone very far at first, because in early 2023, Gellar said she had no interest in ever playing Buffy again. She told SFX magazine,...

‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ Reboot Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar Nears Hulu Pilot Order With Chloé Zhao Directing
Image
More than two decades after Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended its seven-season run, the beloved supernatural drama is eyeing a revival with a new chapter in the franchise. A followup series is nearing a pilot order from Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar expected to star, reprising her signature role as Buffy Summers, sources said. Oscar winner Chloé Zhao, a self-professed lifelong Buffy fan, is set to direct the pilot, written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face). The reboot hails from Buffy the Vampire Slayer studio 20th Television and Disney sibling Searchlight TV where Zhao has been under a first-look deal.

Beyond the pilot order, I hear the reboot is starting a writers room soon, a sign that Hulu and the studios have high expectations for the project going to series. It is unclear yet whether other original Buffy cast members would return; that is considered likely.

Described as the next chapter in the Buffyverse,...

How To Watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Angel In Order (Including The Crossovers)
Image
In a 1992 comedy flick, a carefree cheerleader learns about her destiny to hunt down and kill vampires. Although this teenage girl is initially flippant about her burgeoning abilities, a series of events forces her to take vampire-hunting seriously. Amid a botched prom and an antagonistic showdown in the school basement, the girl and her allies emerge victorious, having put an end to the tyranny of vampires hounding Hemery High School. Mostly unserious and wholly slapstick, this Fran Rubel Kuzui-helmed film received a negative to lukewarm reception on release. This comedy was none other than "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

But this isn't the version of Buffy that entered the global pop culture DNA. After all, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," the television series we know and love, is remembered through its enduring imagery: Black leather jackets, occult/religious iconography, passionate romance, and gothic architecture, to name just a few. At its...

5 TV Shows Based On Movies That Surpassed The Source Material
Image
Trying to recapture the movie magic made by a beloved big-screen entry is always a risky game to play, but perhaps even more so when the new direction is television. Can a handful of episodes really deliver the same standard or even surpass what came before without staining the reputation of the property it's based on? Annoyingly, that is often the case, but there are a handful of television shows inspired by films that've actually surprised us in the best way by being not just good, but great even.

After they've gotten over the hurdles of winking at the audience with the world they've knowingly venturing into, some of the best films turned TV shows have been ones that have gone off and done their own thing. They don't go beat for beat with what's already been done before, but expand upon it by way of new characters, wild plot threads,...

Film Review: Tokyo Pop (1988) by Fran Rubel Kuzui
Image
“Tokyo Pop” is one of those movies that easily gets the title iconic. Written and directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui, who later directed “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, it also stars Yutaka Tadokoro, leader of the rock band Red Warriors, who also appear in the movie, legendary Tetsuro Tanba, as much as a cameo appearance by X Japan. The main protagonist, actress, playwright and singer Carrie Hamilton unfortunately died at the age of 38 due to lung cancer. In honor of the film’s 35th anniversary, a 4K restoration of Tokyo Pop was released by Kino Lorber in New York City at Bam Rose Cinemas on August 4, 2023, and in Los Angeles at the American Cinematheque on August 11, followed by a national expansion. The restoration was released on Blu-ray on December 5, 2023.

Paul Reubens' 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
While he is an icon thanks to his role as Pee-wee Herman in various projects, the best Paul Reubens movies and shows prove that the actor was far more than just one role. Reubens's career on screen goes back to the 1960s, but he first started finding success in bit parts in the likes of The Blues Brothers and Cheech and Ching's Next Movie. It wasn't until the creation of his wildly popular character Pee-wee Herman that Reubens really cemented himself in pop culture which led to many more roles.

Reubens was a skilled comedic actor who brought his quirky energy to make standout roles, playing hilariously deadpan or going way over the top in a fun way. He was also known for playing effective villain roles, bringing a charming creepiness to many different projects. Reubens became a frequent collaborator of director Tim Burton, has worked with big-name actors like Johnny Depp and Ben Stiller,...

Why Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron Has A Thanks To Studio Ghibli In Its Credits
Image
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" climaxes with the Marvelous heroes fighting the titular tin man and his army of duplicates in fictional European nation Sokovia. Ultron has built a giant engine beneath a Sokovian city to lift it off the ground, intending to slam it back onto the Earth and cause a mass extinction event. "When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world will be metal."

This scheme is not inspired by a Marvel comic, but rather another film about a robot army and floating city: Hayao Miyazaki's "Castle in the Sky," the first film made by Studio Ghibli. (Though "Nausicaä Of The Valley Of The Wind" brought Ghibli's soon-to-be founders together.) "Castle In The Sky," set in a Wales-like fantasy world, follows orphans Pazu and Sheeta as they search for Laputa, a long-lost advanced civilization.

Laputa is like Atlantis if it soared above the clouds instead of collapsing beneath the waves.

How Buffy The Vampire Slayer Differs from the Original Movie
Image
Quick Links The Tones of the Film and the Series Contrast One Another Buffy isn't the Character Fans Know and Love in the Movie None of the Familiar Supporting Characters or Settings From the Series Are in the Movie The Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie is a cheesy horror film, not a supernatural melodrama like the show. Buffy only becomes the character fans of the series know by the end of the movie. Even still, there are some elements of the movie that the show nods to.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer has maintained a passionate fan following to this day because of its unforgettable cast and characters, its witty dialogue, its intense and dramatic storylines, and its steamy romances. It's hard to imagine that when the franchise began, it lacked all of these things. Before Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of the most iconic and popular TV series of all time,...

Luke Perry Defied the Patriarchy on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Set
Image
In the wake of the news that someone, somewhere, had the gall to yell at The Rebecca Ferguson, workplace behavior on the sets of Hollywood has once again been called into question. But, back in the early ‘90s, there was one actor who wouldn’t stand for any of it — Beverly Hills, 90210 star, Luke Perry. During a conversation with Vanity Fair about her cult-classic film that launched a franchise of TV shows, graphic novels, podcasts, and more, Buffy the Vampire Slayer director, Fran Rubel Kuzui, said that the young star saved the whole kit and caboodle. “If it wasn’t for Luke Perry, Buffy the Vampire Slayer would’ve never happened,” Kuzui, who rarely speaks about her 1992 film, stated bluntly.

The Star That Joss Whedon Believes Caused The Buffy Movie To 'Fall Apart'
Image
In the wake of the highly influential series version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," the 1992 movie of the same name gets a lot of undeserved flak. Many fans of "Buffy" the series find the film to be a little too cheeseball for their liking, and with "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon's extremely vocal dislike of how the film turned out, it's been easy for others to take a similar stance. As I've pointed out before in writing about the film, "Joss Whedon also famously hates the 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' movie, frequently citing his dislike of the changes director Fran Rubel Kuzui made during production. Odd, considering between Kuzui and Whedon, only one of the two has ever actually experienced life as a teen girl, but I digress."

However, Whedon has also been very vocal about another reason he feels the "Buffy" movie failed, placing blame on the...
