After making its UK debut on Prime Video on Friday, July 25, Harry and Jack Williams' latest crime thriller, the aptly titled The Assassin, has received plenty of widespread praise. Although not without its faults, it seems that the general consensus is that the Williams' have done it again following the huge success of The Tourist, which finished its long-awaited second season in early 2024, with many calling The Assassin its spiritual successor.
The Assassin stars The Good Doctor's Freddie Highmore, a former child star famed for his roles in the likes of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Finding Neverland, and The Spiderwick Chronicles, alongside the ever-brilliant Keeley Hawes of Bodyguard fame. Currently, following its release just days ago, The Assassin has earned an impressive 86% critics' score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, albeit from just seven reviews thus far. Freddie Highmore has called London home his whole life, but you wouldn’t know it from his portfolio.
The 33-year-old actor, a former child star thanks to his titular role in Tim Burton‘s 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has spent a good chunk of the last decade across the Atlantic. Shooting entirely in Vancouver, his rise to fame is best associated with the medical drama The Good Doctor from 2017 to 2024 or the psychological horror series Bates Motel in the years before that.
“I had such an incredible experience that feels so unique and will probably never happen again,” Highmore tells The Hollywood Reporter about his TV adventures abroad. “But at the same time, there was definitely an excitement to do something back in the U.K.”
He adds: “It did always feel like, ‘Oh, I should get back at some point.'”

Since rising through Hollywood's ranks as a child star in the likes of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Finding Neverland, and The Spiderwick Chronicles, Freddie Highmore has broken the curse that often surrounds successful child stars and broken into a triumphant acting career as an adult. Still only 33 years of age, although he still looks much younger, Highmore has dazzled and delighted in the likes of Bates Motel as the iconic Norman Bates, Spanish heist thriller The Vault, and most notably as Shaun Murphy in The Good Doctor, which officially ended last year.

Are you a devoted viewer of NBC's Persons Unknown? If you end up watching all 13 episodes, you have to be.
Persons Unknown follows the challenges of a group of strangers who wake up in a ghost town and are unable to leave. The series features Chadwick Boseman, Lee Purcell, Jason Wiles, Andy Greenfield, Daisy Betts, Tina Holmes, Alan Ruck, Kate Lang Johnson, Sean O’Bryan, and Gerald Kyd.
After five weeks of poor ratings, NBC moved the series from Mondays to the "TV graveyard," Saturday nights. The show's been airing there for four weeks but some viewers have been understandably worried that the network won't air all episodes of the mystery series.
It turns out their fears weren't unwarranted. There are just four episodes left but that's plenty of time to mess with the schedule.

As expected, NBC has pulled their low-rated new series, Persons Unknown, from the Monday night line-up. Thankfully they haven't yanked it off the air completely. They're just moving it to the Saturday night graveyard.
Persons Unknown revolves around a group of strangers who awaken in a ghost town and are unable to leave. The cast includes Chadwick Boseman, Lee Purcell, Jason Wiles, Andy Greenfield, Daisy Betts, Tina Holmes, Alan Ruck, Kate Lang Johnson, Sean O’Bryan, and Gerald Kyd.
The TV show has been performing very poorly so July 5th will be its last Monday night airing. Beginning July 17th, it will show up on NBC's Saturday night schedule instead.
The Visa Gymnastics Championships will preempt the show on August 14th. Otherwise, it looks like Persons Unknown will run uninterrupted and conclude with episode 13 on September 4th. Producers have maintained that...

The peacock network recently premiered a new mystery series for the summer called Persons Unknown. Will the series last? Will viewers get answers to their questions or be left hanging?
Persons Unknown revolves around a group of strangers who wake up in a strange hotel and find that they're in a ghost town and unable to leave. They see security cameras observing them and their unknown captors create mistrust among the group by offering freedom if they hurt the others. The cast includes Chadwick Boseman, Lee Purcell, Jason Wiles, Andy Greenfield, Daisy Betts, Tina Holmes, Alan Ruck, Kate Lang Johnson, Sean O'Bryan, and Gerald Kyd.
The NBC mystery series debuted on June 7th to very disappointing ratings. The premiere attracted a poor 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.38 million viewers. That represents a distant third place for the timeslot and is...

Chicago – Written by the man who gave the world Keyser Soze in his Oscar-winning script for “The Usual Suspects,” NBC’s “Persons Unknown” is a summer mystery mini-series not unlike last year’s “Harper’s Island” or a mini-“Lost” in that the team behind it want people talking about the questions of the show over summer barbecues. NBC is in such dire straits and the show is just flawed enough that it’s hard to believe that “Persons Unknown” will become a phenomenon but it is likely to be a satisfying cult hit for those who seek it out.
Television Rating: 3.5/5.0
It’s very difficult to judge a mystery series on the basis of one episode, but the set-up for “Persons Unknown” is undeniably intriguing. A small group of seemingly very different people wake up in an old-fashioned hotel. They have no memory of how they got there and...

Here are some television tidbits we think you’ll find interesting:
Fox TV Studios is moving ahead with Persons Unknown, having filled out its cast with Jason Wiles, Daisy Betts, Tina Holmes, Sean O'Bryan as Blackham, Lola Glaudini joining the previously announced Alan Ruck, Chadwick Boseman, Gerald Kyd and Kate Lang Johnson. The pilot will be directed by Michael Rymer (Battlestar Galactica) and the series has a 13 episode order. The series is an unusual co-production with Mexico's Televisa and Italy's Rai which explains why the pilot will be shot in Mexico City starting on Monday. The premise may sound familiar as the cast, virtual strangers to one another, wake up in the middle of nowhere and have to figure out how they got there and why. Speaking of Battlestar, as reported previously, Mary McDonnell makes her Grey's Anatomy debut on the November 13 episode. She’ll be playing a doctor named Virginia Dixon,...
